This is pretty spooky. The remake is another teen movie that millions of people flock to go see. The directors these days, they dont have any sensitivity towards the horror element; it's all about action and continuity -puke. It leaves nothing for the viewer to ponder.

Notice how the telephone is shown so HUGE in the camera shots over the doctor's desk... and then the first thing you hear as the film cuts to the insane assylum is the sound of a phone ringing... the telephone is SUCH a character in its own right in this film. I don't think this would come across as strongly in the age of cell phones.

I am 38 years old and i remember when this movie came on when i was about 13 years old and i was at home with an 9,8,and 7 year old watching this movie and it scared the holy out of me and ever since then I hated babysitting and scary dark atmospheres because unlike monster movies this can really happen and that was the scary part.
