Wow, she has packed on the pounds since this interview! Maybe, she should focus on more Greens in her diet, than worrying about the End of Times Man Made CO2 Gosbel! At least she would be supporting her faith, that way by eating less cows!
During the debate, May and Harper seemed like the most rational candidates; Layton seemed to be mudslinging a lot, Dion's approach to answering quesitons seemed too personal, and Duceppe was rather Quebec-centric. On top of that, given some of the things I've heard about Harper, I'm inclined to vote Green, but when May thought she would be kept out of the debates she said it was an attempt by "party leaders who are men" to keep a woman out of power; her own statement is what sounds sexist to me.
When the Green Party is consistency polling at over 10%, placing second in some ridings provincially and federally, almost 700,000 Canadians vote Green, and surveys show that 3 out of 4 people want the Greens in the TV debates, how can they say no?
There is a precedent of allowing leaders of parties without elected representatives to participate in televised debates. See: demanddemocraticdebates(DOT)ca
The Green Party is now polling 3rd in Canada with 14%. Higher than the NDP! and we still don't have any Green MPs. Not only do we need to get Elizabeth May into the major debates, we also need HUGE reform to parliament. The number of seats that parties have in parliament does not even closely correspond to the popular vote. What does that say about our voting system?
We just had our Liberal, Blair Wilson in our riding jump ship and stand behind the Green Party. I could not be happier!
I believe that percentage jumped by another percent by that alone. Canadians are desperate this election for an alternative to Harper and Layton as well as Dion.
We finally have a decent choice and I espouse every ideal of the Green Party.
Social Justice, peace, protecting Canadian industry from global raping let alone our environment. May pratices what she Preaches
The Greens are a registered national federal party that ran a candidate in every riding across the country in the last two elections. Over 600,000 Canadians voted Green in the last election and in recent byelections the Greens garnered >20% and placed second in different byelections ahead of Cons, NDP & Libs. An independent MP joined the GPC just before the election was called, giving the Green Party one MP in Parliament. In polls, 70% of people said the Greens should be included, and they were.
The Green Party has earned their support thru grassroots and if they continue they will earn their place at the debates.
Both the Block and the Reform Party had no place at the debates until they reached official Party Status. A Party of 12 seats is a good rule its clear and you have the man power to be an effective opposition.
Allowing the Green Party now means you have an open question. Why not the Libertarian or Marxist/Lenin they have coast to coast to coast support.
Saying they have "coast to coast to coast support" is misleading.
No other smaller federal party has run a full slate of candidates, nor have they achieved over 1% of the vote. They have never placed second with over 20% of the vote in a byelection. I don't think they've even ever placed third with over 10% of the vote.
Also, the Greens had an independent MP join the Greens as a member of parliament, while none of the other smaller parties can claim that achievement.
My point is until they have 12 seats they have no more rights then the Rhinosaurus Party OF Canada! Ironically the Greens have a leader who would most resemble that Party's symbol.
The debates are for Canada's Current Elected Representives, among equals. That is a true democracy! It becam a joke, when their were 4real leaders and then May yapping in Harpers ear the entire time.
The + out of this the Greens thanks to May, won't be back until they can count to 12, which ='s no more May :)
Guess the Conservatives weren't serious....

This is a great interview. I hope Elizabeth May is allowed to participate in the televised leaders debates in the next federal election.

This comment has received too many negative votes show
There is a little thing called official party status! Earn your way to the debates when you have some seats! Not by crying and whining your way in!
I am glad she proved she was at least able to prove she was a fool at the debates! But, next the election elected leaders of official parties only :)
