Not their best performance (or sound quality) in an otherwise stunning gig. I have a four-track CD from this show (Daybreak, Breaking Into Heaven, Driving South & Tightrope) and they were superb that night. Ian sings the acoustic number (Tightrope) absolutely beautifully - he just had trouble singing over John's guitar which was always turned up very loud on the heavier numbers, and ended up shouting rather than singing. It's also hard to sing in tune in a low key, ask any singer.
@MrAJR76 thats the crimson tonight EP correct? i know what your saying about squires guitar overpowering browns vocals, it didnt give ian the chance to take his natural, relaxed approach to singing
@TheAlistairDick I'm pretty sure Ian Brown doesn't get out of it like he used to on drugs before going on stage anymore, check out some of his more recent live stuff solo
Ginger Baker who was the legendary drummer with Cream always used to say a band will only ever be as good as its drummer. Robbie Maddix is "rock" drummer but just doesn't have the swing or feel that Reni had. It really makes a difference to this song. Can't wait for Reni to come back and make the band sound like it should.
Squire and Manny are fuckin shreding guitar n bass, Ian is fuckin depressing in this one, he is not singing with his heart!! Anyway, great news the roginal Roses lineup is back to save rock n roll!!! World Tour please!
Even though the performance sounds shit when you listen back, the atmosphere at the gig was great. I was 16 at the time and was there. I happened to bump into Ian before the gig and had a short chat. Orbital came on afterwards and they topped off a magical night - one I will always remember.
Can you blame John Squire for walking out shortly after this? With Reni departed the chemistry was gone. Plus unfortunately for Monkeyboy auto tune had yet to be invented. I can remember being there, the ominous feeling spreading as it slowly dawned on the audience that the dream was over.
So they're about to announce that they're all best mates again tomorrow (18-10-2011)?
@flumphert If you somehow can transfer the footage from VHS to computer let us the fans know! There's still few Roses forums running and surely the footage gets shared & makes a lot people happy if you post it on Don't Stop forum. Seeing new Roses stuff pop up always makes my day! :)
Never seen this footage.....Amazing gig wish i had been there but lucky enough i saw them at Brighton and Wembly!!DO U have anything more from this gig??

Squire is brilliant, Mani is solid, but the drumming lacks the swing of Reni and Ian is just tuneless. Hoping for better next year......

Ian Brown is absolutely terrible live.

Quite a tight performance considering they were about to split. Squire owns this performance.

Brown sounds like he doesn't want to be there.
