These were my two first shows . Wanted to see Dylan who was at Old Orchard Beach that same weekend but was so glad I went to see the dead instead . Come to find out while I was at Oxford my future wife was at OOB seeing Dylan . Greatest weekend of my life . During the birdsong a guy swooped over the crowd in a parasail , you can hear the crowd react on the boootleg . There was also a guy who threw a cherry bomb into a trash can and was chased off by a friend of ours after it exploded . Not cool
thanks for posting that.. took me back. I was there that weekend, it was a great scene, i worked on the staging crew, built the stage. Epic couple of weeks in the woods in maine. Monsters of Rock was the weekend before this. The crew camped there for nearly two weeks and built both stages. great times.
both these shows were pretty freaking good man. It was a drag getting around as far as traffic goes. We started out at alpine valley and i do not think we missed a show until after the greek theatre. It was always cool on the road in the summertime , and springtime, oh yeah and the fall tours were hip.Well i guess what i am saying is back in the mid "70"s thru the mid "80"s was a great time to be on the road with "The good ol" grateful dead" Yes it was , yes it was.
I was a 16 year old runaway following the Dead and was at this show!! My friend got in by writing "ticket" on a scrap of paper! The ticket guy looked at her, laughed, ripped it in half and let her in!! I think this was the show that we took the fence down so they just let us all in at the end!! I was tripping soooooo hard. Thanks for sharing even though I wasn't in the vid, I was at that show!!
@pheonagirl Was tripping hard myself . Do remember some people scaling the fence . Must have been 20 or 30 fet high lol . Remember the guy in the parasail buzzing the crowd during the birdsong ? Thought it was Dylan coming in from Old Orchard Beach ;-)
thanks for posting.i was at these shows..i rememberthe microlight, phils booms, some girl from mass called raven who tried in vain to buy my purple shirt..(it was my only shirt), a great time, i was 20 and everyone seemed so innocent..
I was there with my bro...lol, I can't remember which show, though. Maybe those magic mushrooms had something to do with it. It was a good time, though...because, when was a Grateful Dead concert not? I do remember Little Feat also played...and the normal 2 hour drive home turned into about 4 hours, we kept taking left hand turns...
ANOTHER GRATEFUL THANX-I HAD TO MOVE TOO...WORKIN ON DOCUMENTARY IN PROGRESS. WHERE IS YOUNS AT THESE DAZSIES? I AM GREAT, AND SEE MESELF ON THIS VID.. PRETTY COOL THIS SUPER HI WAY
Thanks for sharing this. I remember these shows well. We rolled into the parking lot in a 35ft winnebago with smoke pouring out from all over, we drove until it died and there we parked. We walked across the street looking for help. the homeowner called his brother in law who opened his auto parts store on Sunday, got us the parts, loaned us tools no questions asked. Not sure how we would have got that thing home without the kindness of those folks.
Thanks for posting this, I was on that tour and would greatly appreciate if you can post any other videos from that year! Thank you for the memories!
If Leeeza Maibe Robbins reads this, message me!!!! It's Andrew!
July 1988 were the first two Greatful Dead shows i ever went to. Last one was in 1995 at Soldier field in Chicago. In between Oxford Plains Speedway in Maine and Soldier field we partied hard at 195 other Dead shows and survived:)
@dbrier72 I originally posted these for my two sons who are now 23 and 25...these were great shows and we had so much fun...check out my other vids...
I have been looking for me in this video. Not happening. Oh well, there is a picture of me (tie dyed on left) on dead dot net from this show in the fan photo section that someone else posted. I guess two random photos from one show would be rather improbable.
What a blast, coming across this video. That's me blowing bubbles at the 2+minute and my friend Ray, taking pictures of you. Thanks for sharing this memory. Great pair of daze, they were.
these shows and all of 1988 were such great shows but oxford and alpine really hit home hard for me. those were the best of times i miss them great memeries thanks alot.. i kept thinking i would see myself or someone i knew walking by in your vid real cool
I remember sitting in traffic on the hood of my friends impala for hours. Brings back lots and lots of great memories! I miss touring and eating free stir fry, trading whip hits for beer and bee bopping around the parking lots and of course there was the music!
Awesome shows. I remember everyone going down to some local lake for some good swimming and the mad fireworks outside.. You must remember the guy in the ultralight that was over the stadium during Bird Song and them leaving on a Helicopter after the last show? Damn I wish I could go back....
Thank you so much for sharing these videos. I am curious to see the kids today and if you get a chance check out Mr Blotto from Chicago. They keep the dream alive for this dead head!
Thank you for your videos. There are many "parking lot" videos out there. I like the slow-mo vibe to yours. You caught the magic that was present. Fun to see bubbles and daisy chains and the smiles of children. Great song selections, too! Lucky kids with fun parents.
Wow ! what a weekend! brought a tear of joy to my eye .Thank so much for posting this> I remember it well. Post more footage so I can see myself. Firworks raining down and the N2o was flowing hassle free...Me & Lisa Jim Lucey and Midge Mccabe.
my cousin got married on that day, i remeber some of the family missing it, she lived 3 miles from the track. i drove past the track during the show, there were so many people.
Oh, I remember that!! I also loved the Uncle John's band into Terrapin. My first show was in Maine too - at the Cumberland County Civic center in 1982...great memories...=)
