Because he's been reduced to using a simple playing style with no real opportunity to use his unique combination of technique and imagination. The creativity he got a chance to display with his previous session work (illustrated particularly well with the work he did re-imagining the synthesised drums used on Jagged Little Pill to work well in a live setting on an acoustic kit) is completely lost on the simplistic elementary level writing style of the Foo's. I agree, he is an awesome drummer.
