  • Great vid. I caught Jay Azzolina live with Spyro Gyra years ago. His solo album "Never Too Late" was great and his work on SG's "Point of View" was fantastic, too. Patitucci?...A true professional. Saw him play with Chick Corea, Peter Erskine, and Bob Berg at Juniata College years ago and got to meet him afterward. Super great and super nice.

  • Jay Azzolina is an AMAZING guitarist. I saw him at a small club in Cape May NJ back in 1987. He was playing with David Mann (sax).

Jay is a fucking great guitarist!!

  • Great!

  • John Pattituci a gift!!! from above, Had a chance to meet him in Philly. This cat is very humble and spiritual, and not mention kind. It shows in his playing, Play on J.Pat!!!

  • muy bueno

  • alot of people are a) Clued B) Jealous C) get it about JP. John is the great bassist that doubles, perhaps best to date. he is also a beautiful soul.

he must just sit back and laugh at the comments that are slaggin him when herbie, shorter , metheny, jack and the likes are calling him to play.

worst thing here is its not recorded with much room sound, playing is killin.

last , not least, he just gets better and better always moving ahead.

John if you read this, blessings.

    le cafe `87....

  • agreed! seriously, he's played with so many jazz and contemporary greats it wouldnt even make sense to say hes not great lol tell corea hancock and shorter that he sux, see what they think haha. the song Sister Moon with Sting and Hancock is honestly one of the best songs ever lol and he wouldnt be a Professor of Jazz Studies at my school if he didnt kno what he was doing. HES AMAZING.

  • The only thing I dont get about this guy is why he doenst just play a guitar. He never goes below the 12th fret.

  • The only thing I don't get about some people is their apparent inability

to allow others to take a different approach. In any event, it seemed to

me he went below the 12th fret fairly often. That last low C, especially,

would have been a little difficult to pull off on a guitar, I should think.

The fact that Patitucci favours the "horn" register for soloing

or playing heads does not disqualify him as a Bass player.

And it certainly doesn't justify your dismissing him as a wannabe guitarist.

  • word. i've been checking the Patitucci vids here and it seems on every one there's some prat making a pointless negative comment. "He may as well play Cello." I feel sorry for the poor fools who can't get past stupid intolerant shit and just enjoy the music of one of the greatest musical minds of our time.

  • Like you said, word. :-)

  • yea way to go actually watching the video haha

  • you're obviously never heard him play

  • is he reading?

  • you gotta LOVE his tone!!! :D

  • great McCoy Tyner tune

  • thanx where was the real whole cnert broadcasted?

  • His TONE is AMAZING.

  • Amazing, wish the video was in sync though...
