  • These buybacks are sickening.

If you think about it, the buyback suggests that if you own a gun, YOU are the problem, even if you're responsible, law-abiding and, thus, NOT the problem.

It's political showboating to make it look like something is being done when the reality is that they're concealing the fact that the police can't stop crime and can't catch criminals.

So, they do these insulting "feel good" things to make people believe they're making a difference.

    Make-believe is childish.

  • I dont recall seing any gangbangers turn in their guns. I guess thats just and inconvienient truth. I bet you the guns turned in were never on the streets to begin with. I have atended two buybacks and not one gangbager came it was all elderly people and a few women. BUY BACKS ARE NOTHING MORE THAN A LIE!!!!!!

  • @dovii4ever

"BUY BACKS ARE NOTHING MORE THAN A LIE!!!!!!"

Or a great opportunity to get more money than a particular gun is worth.

For instance, if you own a Bryco Arms pistol of any model, a gun buyback will be very profitable for you.

And, you can look at the bright side of the buyback; it subsidized your purchase of a better gun!

  • If we were ever allowed to freely own guns again in the UK I would NEVER give ANY of them away, the ones I do have are staying with me.You would have to be a right fool to give away your only legal means of protection in the US.Most of these must be from old grannies who's husbands died and left the guns in the house. Now she is completely open to attack in her home, now its gone, she cant use it even if she needed to,thats really clever NOT.

  • A pretty good amount of guns of the street.....Most likely from the people that you want to have guns.

  • A grain of sand on the beach.

  • NWO is on it's way.

  • You can bet your ass the cops picked though and took the ones HOME they wanted..... fact.

  • iam sure the gangs are bringing their guns in

  • HA all those hot guns..sent right to the lab.

  • You'd need the entire state of Texas to hold all the guns in the country. I wonder what these cops did with the guns after they got them?

  • sell 'em :D

  • Freakin Morons Yeah we got all them criminals to bring in there guns Yeah Dumb Ass Liberals

  • I bet gang mambers braught their guns in.

  • Only a child, a female or a stupid male would think a gun "buy back" program is worthwhile. Of course the cops like it..they have their own agenda.

  • We don't need guns, we have the police. We also don't need fire extinguishers, we have the fire department.

  • If guns are a tragedy waiting to happen why dont you disarm the Detroit PD! How many of them are involved in questionable shootings. How many lives could you save? What, you say their guns are used for good? So does that mean its not the gun, but the person who has access to it.

The rate of violence is lower among persons with permits/licenses than it is with the PD. But maybe they could all seek political asylum in Windsor, Ontario. Its just a short police-car ride away!

  • What about the criminals that will now break into houses to get a reward for turning in stolen guns with no questions asked? Sounds like the government is promoting crime to me by giving the criminals an incentive to steal guns from law abiding citizens.

  • Not sure what they think they are "buying back?" They never owned the guns in the first place.

  • From the looks of it most of these are either small caliber (looks like only .22 rifles) and small caliber wheel guns... I'd guess that these are stuff that thiefs could not sell to other criminals.. I also see about four sawed off shotguns, so you passed up getting a felony conviction on a criminal to buy an 60$ gun for 50$? WOW thats some good police work there... Whats next kiddie porn buy back? Bring it in no questions asked and get money? No one would ever stand for that because its stupid.

  • test

  • Guy buy back program with no record check!

Hmmm, Seattle citizens sold their guns in a similar program. They were given IOU's however. To my knowledge, their local gov still hasn't made payment.

Also, I wonder if these easy "gun buy back -ask no question" programs tempt honest, hungry men, into stealing guns to sell.

Oh well, I'm not selling mine

  • poor guns :( mew that sucks but look on the birght side they make a ten more for each one they smash

  • this is retarded. if you want to make your city safer you should be encouraging your good citizens to get their concealed carry license and a good handgun and get training.

  • it's a good idea to get guns off the street, but wheelmanvw is right: buy back ain't the way. Stop selling em would be better.

  • On the cart of long guns I think I saw an old single shot shotgun. You tryin' to tell me that that's a crime gun? I don't think so. Hell, I doubt if any of those long guns are crime guns. Criminals prefer small handguns, between .22-.380 caliber because they are cheap, small enough to hide, and easy to shoot. FBI crime stats confirm this.

  • any gun is a crime gun, shotguns especilly. its not the guns or how expensive or cheap they are, its the fact that these guns came off the street and the people that turned them in may have used them in crimes, or if they had been stolen in burgleries, these guns off the street and out of the hands of people don't need them is an asset.

  • I know its an old comment, but your saying paying criminals to procure guns is a good idea?

So your saying a 1777 musket would be a "crime gun"? Criminals prefer to use weapons that are compact, and cheap. So those long rifles with nice wood stocks were most likely brought in by hobby shooters who needed cash.

  • i don't remember seeing any 1777 muskets on the table. there was a lot of saturday night specials and sawed off shotguns though. i'm a hobby shooter and i wouldn't think about giving up a kentucky rifle for $50.00 and neither would any other gun collector. hobby shooters don't go to gun buy backs, and if they do they're stupid. the people that give these guns up are ready to git rid of them before they fall into the wrong hands and I say so be it.

  • But my point is a musket is still a gun yet it is not involved in crimes so is it a "crime gun?" what about bolt action rifles they are not often used in crimes so a table full of them isn't that impressive.

Criminals are not stupid they will not go to a gun buy bad unless they have a reason A. gun is worth less than the money offered B. the gun was used in a crime and they want to get rid of it, good job your destroying evidence for them.

  • yes, you can use any gun to commit a crime, period. you can accidently fire a gun and if it hits someone they can get you for any type of negligence. i've been through with my son who i taught to hunt gamebirds. they said he shot someone and we went to court and he was charged with negligent hunting. any type of harm with any kind of gun can get you in a world of trouble. if they started gun control today, muskets and bolt actions would go as well as anything else. just look at the UK

  • But my point is taking weapons that aren't used in violent crimes off "the streets" (more like out of people closets) will not do any thing to violent crime rates making it point less.

Laws can be broken with cars as well do you think a car buy back would make the roads safer?

  • i'd have to see the statistics on gun violence and the guns that are used before i could agree with you on that. if people do not want a gun in their home and they are ready to let it go, why give to some person who they feel might use it in a bad way. you don't know and neither do I what might become of that gun. so, they take the safe way out where they know it won't harm anyone and give to the city.i can't find fault with that.

  • If people don't want others using old weapons they own its simple to stop, take a hammer make it so non of the parts fit together any more, or weld its parts together, or take it apart burn the wood and metal till is has no finish and put the parts in salt water..... I don't see why I should have my police station paying people for guns because I don't see any evidence of it improving public safety.

I suggest to look at statistics they have very telling when it comes to this sort of thing.

  • Just cuz someone turned in a gun doesn't mean that it was "taken off the street". Criminals don't turn in there guns, it's poor people who bought a gun, but need that $100 to buy food this week that turn in there guns at gun buy backs.

It's ignorant to look at each one of those guns as a "tragedy waiting to happen". If in the right hands they could save a life, or provide hours of enjoyment at the shooting range.

  • I agreed, no matter what law the government comes up with, whether they ban guns or not, the bad guys will always manage to get a hold of a gun through black market, so might as well allow the good citizens to carry a gun to protect themselves. The NWO is disarming us one by one.
