  • Yes I also gather the sense to which his study sounds like implying agent-less PRC citizens being manipulated by patriotric education (his use of "performative" that enact "pride" and "shame"). If "moral identity" is that which is mobilized through shame discourse with historical referents, it is then questionable that pride is the ONLY reaction upon performance of legitimating identification. He needs to ASK those people in performance and in their context to make his argument empirically sound

  • Humiliation narrative and patriotic propaganda are pathetic cliches way overrated in academic circle. Seriously, stop hyping this up to barbarianize China, distort/discredit Chinese historical experiences, weaken Chinese traditional ideals. I know you want to defend your militarist/colonialist/racist history and domination, but forgive me French, we don't give a shit.
