  • This was done for the Dick Clark Beechnut Show from the rooftop of ABC affiliate WTAE in Pittsburgh, PA. Dick did a few live remote broadcasts during the run of that show. Looks like a great summer Saturday night in Pittsburgh. Toward the end of the clip you see a Roadway truck drive by.

  • Great! Great! Great!

    Brunni, Mysterials/Street Corner Memories Show

  • Wow I have not seen this is years. A very rare clip with the original members is so hard to find I have seen so many of their shows I have lost count, but this reminds me of seeing the in local pittsburgh clubs when they were first starting out., Truly one of the finest vocal groups ever

  • Don't care what you want to call it,it's a great song As Billy Joel said i'ts ROCK & ROLLTO ME

  • Wow,

    Jimmy Beaumont was young!!

  • Great clip of a wonderful song, showing the versatility of The Skyliners. Thank you very much for posting it.

  • You can't really call this doo-wop. This is

a throw-back style. Every one in his or her

right mind knows this a "swing" or "big band" arrangement, and nobody defines doo-wop as big band or swing. Group vocal harmony in big band? Of course there was - oodles of it, too. See Chattanooga Choo-Choo by Glenn Miller as one example, or "Let's Get Away From It All" by Tommy Dorsey with Frank Sinatra & The Pied Pipers. But I won't deny for one minute this isn't a great moment for the Skyliners.

  • I think this is a blend of doo wop singing with big band arrangement; listen to the bass line, and the harmonies sung in thirds....Bottom line, it doen't matter what genre you try to put it in, it shows the Skyliners were evolving into other musical venues; just like the Platters who started out pure doo wop (Federal years) and ended up singing standards with full orchestration.

  • I love the James Cagney moves Jimmy does. That's cool.

  • The "Pittsburgh Sound". Well, whatever you'd call it, it sounds spectacular. Didn't doo-wop originate in New York City? Does anyone know about the history of these various sounds?

  • Yes, the Big Apple is known as where doo-wop originated but the genre was widespread - kids in cities such as Philly, DC-Baltimore, Chicago, St. Louis, Milwaukee and Pittsburgh were creating doo-wop groups in their respective neighborhoods. As one whose roots trace back to the Steel City, Pittsburgh really deserves a spot in doo-wop history as a place where many groups came from - the Skyliners, Del-Vikings and Marcels were all from PGH (to name a few!)

  • We can conclude then that doo-wop originated east of the Mississippi in the larger cities. Indeed, the Pittsburgh area had their fair-share of musical groups, as well as all of Pennsylvania. Weren't the Vogues from Pittsburgh?

  • Yeah, the Vogues were from Turtle Creek, near Pittsburgh.

  • Great song,thanks for posting! Peace,sailor8285

  • classic 60's!
