Wonder why stars salaries are going stratospheric, perhaps the lack of loyalty the studios are showing or how short lived actors careers are getting. a prequel where the advanced film techniques outdo the original series by such a wide margin doesn't do the series as a whole any good it just becomes a way of the studios beating a dead horse,though this dead horse seems to have some life in him. I like Stewart and Shatner but then I'd like to see Connery reprise Bond.

After watching the first 4 seasons of the new Dr Who, I have to say that despite great casting, acting and plenty of money, except for 1 or 2 two notable exceptions per season every episode seems saddled with crippling plot holes, painfully lame special effects and pointless Benny Hill toilet humor (farting aliens? are we 12?). Especially irritating is the series' refusal to re-imagine the Dalek -- this terrifying race of evil robots still look like R2D2 with a toilet plunger attached. Lazy.

The problem lies in the fact that the original ST cast was really bad. Few even mediocre actors in that first group which has always been my problem with the original and why STTNG was 50 times better a series - acting. The early cast list for this film had Matt Damon as Kirk - that would've been amazing but I do like, no love Sylar as Spock and John Cho as Sulu. Master strokes!

I think that I will probably go see this one just to see if all the hype lives up to the finished project. I actually met Shatner in Los Angeles (chance meeting) got his autograph and asked what he thought about the new movie. He said that he was interested to see out it would all work out but was glad that the franchise would continue.

It is not that it is "not the original". It is that they are trying to cash in on the original, without any thought of trying to make a good movie. All the studio wants is a marketing gimmick to get people into the theatres. So they bring back all of the original characters (in younger form) and hope that it will sell tickets. It won't be till the movie is over, that everyone sitting in the theatre will realize that they have been cheated and what a lame excuse for a movie they just paid for.

well. I think The paramount we have a big problem here. Star Trek not is the James Bond or Batman. Not is posible re change the characters , not is possible did a remake. L nimoy is Spock , and Shatner is Kirk for all. The Original productor G.Rodemberry undestand it. For this reason did TNG and not a remake.

I agree, they should do a movie that can stand on its own. If they wanted to , they could have a younger version of an Ensign Kirk, as a sub-character in the movie. As viewers, we would know who this young Kirk would become, but to the movie, he would just be part of the plot development. To make a movie where all of the original characters mysteriously all meet and hook up with each other, sounds pretty cheap and exploitive.

Mistake #1 at about 0:18 seconds: It's not a "next Generation" film it's a "re-thinking" or "re-tooling" prequel to the original TV show.

Mistake #2 at 0:42 secs. The ship isn't being worked on by "crew members" it's being worked on by "ship builders". Not to mention they are welding in the wrong direction. You don't push a weld you drag it. LOL
