  • mud pies long lost memos

  • Cool man very useful

  • great vid.. someday i ll try to make my own knife.. ultimate subs :)

  • This forge should be great for bending smallish diameter metal I would expect. Possibly even good for joining a piece or two in a pinch. definately make a great emergency forge for doing a down and dirty fix to get your butt out of trouble.

  • thanks imgoing to make make it bigger with a bucket.

  • 1:05 thats what she said ;p

  • What can you make in it?

  • can you melt aluminium or bronze with this forge??

  • your doing one thing wrong with the hair dryer... you have to eliminate the loss of force between the can and the hair dryer with a pipe and seal it

  • @bushcraftkid6622 yes your 100% right the increse in heat is negligible without a pipe to give evey bit of air power... i do the same thing with a pipe with charcoal and an array of heat proof bricks and a steal crucible i can melt copper it looks white hot infact i burnt my face the other day just from the radiant heat just off the molton metal not even getting to close to the furnce i use a air bed pump for mine a hair dryer sues to much elcectrcity give it a go cheap project and fun as fook

  • minecraft led me here :) or should I say I minecrafted my way here xD

  • Could a mud forge be good for sword making?

  • @ConorC96 As long as you an heat the whole blade and control the heat okay, then sure, why not? XD

But as a small piece of advice, I'm guessing you haven't been blacksmithing very long, else you would know what you'd need for a good piece of steel/iron... I suggest you stick to knives and get your striking down nicely before you spend the money of decent metal for a sword... =)

  • I know this is an old video, but me and my friend just built a small forge out of fire bricks, and we cant seem to get coals hot enough. wether they be grilling coals, or ones we made in a sealed can with a small hole set in a bonfire. what coals are you using?

  • yeah you could just use your hands

  • Great video :)

  • It can be even simpler than that. Just a length of fence pipe or swingset leg. Plug one end and lay it flat on the ground. Make some holes in one side for the tuyere and then build up your mud around it like a bowl. Let the mud dry a bit and then lite a fire. Works great. You are on the right track, son - don't let any of these critics give you a hard time. :-)

  • @UnlimitedBushcraft what do you use for an anvil?

  • would the melt aluminum?

  • I'm constantly amazed by your ingenuity at improvisation, especially in your knife-making videos. Thanks for sharing!

  • i would make it bit different, but you do have a good forge idea right there, and for patton, this was a basic one, im sure if you get like bricks or something else to make it longer it would work. (my family used to make forges like this)

  • Don't get your moms hair dryer dirty! or in water, water is a conducter!

  • I'm goin to sound like a moron, where do you find the raw metal to make the stuff with?

  • @dmr481 You can buy new metal off the internet, or if you open your eyes you can find it lying around almost anywhere... ;)

  • is there anything underneath the metal or in the charcoal besides charcoal

  • What are you mumbling about?

  • Dry powdery mud is usually refereed to as Dirt =)

  • Sooo dangerous

  • great vid kid!!!! Where do u find regular coal these days???? And I liked the hair dryer for air source

  • UB very cool no dollar forge!

  • i loved seeing your set up but how you gunna get any real heat with that make some sort of cover for it and extend the coal pan then it should work great :)

  • I put my balls into one of those and they came out red and soft.

  • duuude thats freaking insane, might have to try this out :D get some mini blades made thanks man

  • @Any Don't feed the trollers!

  • awsome !!!

  • The most expensive resource is dirt. WHAT!?!?, It's a non-renewable resource!

  • i see you played spadey knifey before!

  • cool "survival forge" idea, could probably do without a hair dryer if need be by forming a big mud wind catch on the end and fanning some tree branches over it.

  • nice done! but watch out for the sparks, really, even a spark can start a fire..

  • Dirty little knacker, you should take more care when forging stolen pots and pans!

  • @09890897 troll bitch*

  • Ah Crap I've Got Everything But Dirt! :(

  • @HomeMadeGunNut haha, lol, way to fail at trying to get thumbs up :P

  • @pkcheeze Who said i was tryin get thumbs up?

  • Keep it up, thats kinda how I started out, with very basic things like that. Over time, you'll learn more, and get better. I used to do small knives only, now after many years im able to forge, cast, and machine parts for knives and guns.

  • Pretty good, it's nice to finally find a forge that I can make!

  • nice setup. I'd personally want to make a huge forge for making longer blades.. I need myself an anvil first though.. but this is a nice quick setup for small blades. Nice Job

  • its called water not wooter

  • the dirt wont kill you lol

  • You're very smart little dude, Good job :)

Thanks for inspiring me after all lol.

  • What would you use instead of the hair dryer if you didn't have electricity?

  • @bumrushjoe probably a pump, a bellow type doobliedoo. or a handheld fan.

  • when you soften carbon do you just heat it up to cherry red and let it slowly cool so it is soft??

  • thanks, but please cut large parts of your film, it's too long.

  • very nicely done. the info and demo are helpful, hope to build a larger more permanent forge, but this was good to see what the most fundamental basics needed are.

p.s. you should change your name to UrbanBushcraft. this is great DIY, backyard project making.

  • nice job young man

  • Nice movie

  • what is with your voice

  • DUDE UR LIKE A FUCKIN CHEF WITH MUD

  • smart

  • nice but plz can you make tutorial on how to work with it

    but nice

  • Afraid to get your hands dirty? :p haha

  • This is still a great and extremely simple method for making a small forge you would use to make a knife great vid

  • @Jman999000 you could make a nice knife out of lead with this you couldnt even soften steal or iron

  • i smelt my own metal useing bog ore and coal i use a celtic style smelter im a bladesmith now for since i was 11 and im 18 now! i have my own workshop i use a champion 500 forge

  • Where do you get Dirt....?

  • @Magcomplex rofl lmao.. i lol'd....

  • so not big enough for me: I make swords that are 1m50 (60 inch)

  • @patton446 Nice, I'd love to see your forge setup!

  • @UnlimitedBushcraft I use a proffesional one but with keramics. I need to melt the metal, cast the rough shapes and do the fine works with a mallet, chissel and ather tools

  • @patton446 well this guy`s set up is simple,if you forge bigger stuff jist get a bigger plate, bigger can, bigger hole and you are good to go XD

  • @patton446 your a huge fag

  • @patton446 that is verry cool!! are they katana's?

  • @patton446 Bragging much? If you already are making swords why are you looking to make a forge out of mud? Seems like your just commenting to stroke your ego.

  • @ts404 i can't use that forge when i an in the woods.

  • im 12 and i did this lol good think i bought a sharpening wheel

  • you sir are a genius and artist. Great video

  • Next time use an old cooking pan, they are build for heat and are wider. Just remember to remove the handle or it will melt / burn.

  • I have 2 questions O.o

1 : Where do you get the metal?

2 : how do you make them hot,do you put something underneath the plate?

  • @TheNejiMule Answers... 1: Any D.I.Y shop

2: Charcoal, and just put some flammable liquid like patrol on it...

  • @TheNejiMule Ill answer with a question... Have you read anything on Blacksmithing? If not i suggest you go and read up, or at least click on some of the side videos =S

  • @obeyance Yea :P all i know is that you bang a hammer up against a peice of metal and you get a sword O__O

  • Very efficient design! If you do it in a bit larger scale, you have a smelter! :)

  • k...how did man build the first forge? What did they produce out of the first forge? This i like to know so i can build my forge and upgrade to modern forges.

  • good design. the only thing i would do is make it a lot bigger

  • lol i knew right after i typed it sorry and thank you

  • you desecrate the knife for mud tsk tsk

  • @manufacturedfracture No that is a spade,

  • @UnlimitedBushcraft no its a trowerl {mini spade}

  • @UnlimitedBushcraft Lol why am I in this conversation?

  • @UnlimitedBushcraft No thats a trowel

  • @manufacturedfracture yr like the guy who thought a moth was a horse lol!

  • @XysflightchampX um no i just saw an edge and then i hit post and then saw that it was a trow

  • @manufacturedfracture i know im just kiddin ^-^

  • @manufacturedfracture yeah i thought it was a knife at the first angle but its not its a spade :X

  • @manufacturedfracture you're either blind or stupid dude

  • @manufacturedfracture looked like a trow to me?

  • @manufacturedfracture woooooow way to be blind

  • @manufacturedfracture I thought it was a knife to XP

  • dude thats awesome

  • wait im confused

where did ou put the coals?

cause i saw some on top arent they supposed to be under the metal grate thingy?

  • use an old wok in that and thats a good forge on the cheap.

  • Looks cool, but you could probably find some clay rather easily.

  • whatt... who taught you that dude.. Very inventive... good goin!

  • cant make mutch of a knife in there, i use a brick pymrid for my forge

  • @mrscaryspider I didn't design to to make knives I only designed it to heat treat small blades!

  • @UnlimitedBushcraft What the hell is a knife, then?

  • @UnlimitedBushcraft Can I plz edit your design to my comfort?

  • MUNKY BUTT meow

  • that hair drier is too powerfull

it is good but you don`t need that much power (air)

wahe a loow on my last vide, i used a powerfless hair dryer (the old ones hasn`t so much power)

and i remove heating sistem to reduce electic power consumption

  • @flaviusicafsz Generally when heating knife blades I want to do it as fast as possible and if I were to use a lower power hair dryer it would only take longer!

I liked your video...I'd love to see a video of the wood gas generator the you built!

  • @UnlimitedBushcraft What is the plate thing you used? What kind of metal is strong enough not to melt when used as a base in the forge?

  • @obeyance I used anodized aluminium but it melted after about 10 or 20 burns so I recommend you use steel!

  • @UnlimitedBushcraft Mhmm..many people use old break drums from vehicles.

  • great

  • it might be a lil messy but sculpt it with your hands

  • cool because im thinking about trying it out. I like vid

  • have you ever actually made a knife in this forge?

  • @destructosk8ter21 Yeah I've made three so far!

  • how old are you???:D

  • i heave a mutch bigger forge adn i doun't try yours

but tahe charcoal need to be mine charcoal:>

it is mutch better it hits mutch mutch better than tha charcoal for griling:>

  • @KIDU96 That charcoal that I was using was only for demonstration I don't use that when heating knife blades,I use home make charcoal...

  • what the fuck?

  • @knifecollector93 What's wrong?

  • i thought i replyed that to KIDU96. his typing is so fked up i cant read it

  • @knifecollector93 Oh right!

  • @UnlimitedBushcraft no worrys. i confuse the hell out of myself somtimes. XD

  • u need others charcoal and a deeper plate

it woks better than that u did in this movie:>

  • @KIDU96 I've designed this forge to heat knife blades to 800deg celcius which it does perfectly with that plate....It doesn't need to be any deeper.

  • its not to bead :D

but its sucks this forge its for grill

  • @KIDU96 What are you trying to say?

  • 438426x1 if you were suggesting to melt metal you would require a crucible to contain it. Also nice work easily explainable forge.

  • so do i put the metal just on top of the fire? wont it drip down?

  • Well done!

  • Very clever!

You just may be the coolist kid I know!

  • Do you make a fire under the pan

  • Nope, on top of it!

  • prety cool

  • Great video and very resourceful. Excellent.

  • Thank you very much!

  • :) ok next time me and my friend hike out into the middle of nowhere just over like 2 big hills out of town there is metal we find here and there... i will get a metal sheet and punch holes in it with other metal i find and get a can and a rock and find a big rock and i could forge and smith... although i need air... still sweet.... wait where did you get the charcoal? burnt wood?

  • Yeah I just collect my charcoal from leftover fires!

  • great job 5/5

  • Thank you!

  • wat is this???

    jenny bistow!!!

  • Clever

  • Thanks!

  • Impressive! Kinda wish I had been doing these things when I was in school. 5+

  • Haha it's never too late!

  • Great job. One suggestion: if you bury the fire pan up to the rim or add the mud above it you'll be able to add more coal. I've found that when forging that a deeper bed of charcoal works better. Maybe because the outer cooler layers of charcoal (especially on top) insulate the main area of heat around the blower inlet. Keep it up.

  • Thanks for the idea I'll have to have a go at that!

  • Awesome 5/5

  • Thanks!

  • i like it,, good job 5/5

  • Thanks...I'm glad you like it!

  • Great job .....impressive 5/5

  • Thank you!

  • omg awesome set up any chance we'll get to see it in action like you makin a knife

  • Thanks and I might have a few vids up showing me making things like basic flint strikers!

  • thats awesome!! tell me how it works ok cos i been lookin for a cheap way of getting into knife making and stuff

what you using for an anvil??

  • For an anvil I use a bench vice that has a metal plate on it!

  • lol now thats thinking outside the box
