It's amazing that it looks like that fisherman hasn't eaten either for a whole day or for many days since in the beginning of the skit, he looked a little chubby but when it showed him catching a fish at the end, he looked so thin.
Another classic I remember watching as a kid in the 80's. Sesame Street taught you allot of stuff back then and it was worth coming home from school to watch it on evenings. What's up with Sesame Street now is anyone's guess.
Like the 'Man Who Hated Frogs' clip, this illustrates that something that superficially appears as a 'nuisance' actually helps you to achieve what you want to (or, in the case of the frog, keeps something even more bothersome away from you).
I guess that what you could say about the the frog situation is that for there to be a frog is his stream was the lessor of two evils from the man's point of view.
I think I see why he took his frustration out on the plants in the first few seconds of the clip: The minute he caught that fish, it flew off the hook, and he doesn't know it.
I love this one! Does anyone remember a cartoon about Fisherman Jones teaching the words "on," "in," and "under"? At the end of the clip, a fish ate his boat!
On the other hand, I'd prefer my kid watch this ecology stuff from the 70s rather than the crap they have on Sesame today. (e.g., Elmo: "fish-fish-fish, fish-fish-fish!" Gah.
I call this the food chain skit myself. BTW What became of that first fish before he caught the plant and got all angry? Nobody ever explained that one.
We can only hope that Sesame Street is still teaching ecology like this today! We need it more than ever! I'm going to have my 3-year-old watch this today!
Beautiful! I remember seeing this all the time as a kid! Sesame Street was pretty good on addressing ecology- probably even ahead of its time in some ways...
Now back into the sea you go til next year's clamfest in Quahog.

It's amazing how the fisherman looked a little fat in the beginning of this skit, then from 1:08-1:11, he looked very thin.

Nice lesson in simple logic, but I still wait for the talking clam before I'm willing to think.
