Superbe interprétation. Il est scandaleux que le prix ait échappé à Cazal pour des raisons de complaisance politique envers la Chine, j'ignorais ce "détail".
Yes it is. Busoni competition, I guess in 1988 or 89 can't remember. Olivier got 2nd prize, 1st not awarded.
Olivier got 2nd prize also in Sydney 92 with this Proko 2, and he certainly doesn't have the Xiang Dong Kong video ! (or he probably burnt it if he ever had it ... lol !)
Xiang Dong Kong has stolen the prize...There was a good relationship beetwen Australia and China at this time...So jury decided to give the first prize to a chinese pianist...In order to make the chinese winner, jury decided to give the minimal points to Cazal for his Prokofiev's concerto and maximal points for Kong. Yes because, trust me or not, Cazal had maximal points before Prokofiev, and Kong had minimal points...
That is your own opinion. Prokofiev used the piano as a percussive instrument and an attacking feel is what I look for in people's interpretations of his works. Look at his sonatas (particularly the "war sonatas"). They are percussive and sharp in nature just like his concertos
Duh I know this is not his sixth sonata. (DId I even say that?) 2) ALL of his concertos (1-5) has a "sharp edgy" feel to them while still covering a wide range of moods and feelings. Your opinion that thie concerto should have a "ballet-like" feel is just that. YOUR opinion jsut like it's my opinion that is should be played with "edgyness" as that is how I was taught and how I have heard many interpretaions of it. Everyone doesn't play it like Martha Argerich.
I like the composer's own performance well enough. As for my opinions being opinions, that's not any revelation. Your opinions are your opinions as well. Fascinating point, isn't it?
My first comment towards you was not petty and condescending. If you feel that it was that just shows your immaturity. You got smart ass with your response and I came back with the same "smartness" that you dished out ("this is not his 6th sonata"). I guess that wasn't a condescending comment on your part.
"That is your own opinion." is snotty because it points out the obvious (that an opinion is an opinion) and it suggests that the opinion isn't worthwhile. I shouldn't have to explain this to you. You're wasting my time with your juvenile bullying. Buh-bye.
I I was wasting your damn time then why in the f*^* are you still responding back?? And as far as my "juvenile bullying" you must be an imbecile. You can't bully anyone over the net. At any rate. good riddence....
can anyone explain how he's playing those runs of 2nds he seems to be doing it differently than a lot of other pianists do it...but i just can't figure what it is
I literally fainted!!! This is such a passionate and amazing performance for the most amazing concerto! Please please if anybody has the rest of this PLEASE POST IT!

Sometimes too fast is a bad thing. The transitions were a bit flawed. The piece should have a ballet-like movement... not an attacking feel.

This isn't the 2nd concerto. Not all of his pieces are the same stylistically. This is also not his sixth sonata.

Well I made it clear that it was my opinion. You however did not. I'm glad you understand that now!

What you made clear is that you respond to opinions you disagree with petty condescension.
