  • ....Did you call us "kitty cats"?

  • YOU should do a beautiful world tutorial ...

  • What is the little fill you do between 'reappear' and 'night after night'?

  • ya you spent too much time on the easy bullshit & rushed the semi suck pill- however thanks for the lesson !

  • Thank for the lesson... but it takes you a lot of time explainig the powerchords and the strumming. The chorus is too unexact. Anyway great song and great lesson.

  • Is in standard tuning? I still can't play it, the sounds are totally different :(

    Sorry my bad english)

  • thank you helped me figure out this song

  • I seriously couldn't focus on the lesson..... you're HOT!

  • @OOOooermilindaooOOO Come on! That's too sweet.

  • Thanks man, your tutorial helped me learn a song I've been trying to learn since I first saw it on Scrubs.

  • Firstly, the song is originally played two halfnotes brigher. So you start with a E-powerchord, not an A-powerchord. And secondly, you spend 8 minutes explaining how to play a powerchord and skips the part of the song that's somewhat challenging. You could atleast put out the tabs. This is what I hate the most in these "Guitar lessons" the tutors speak to you as if you'd never held a guitar in your hands before...

  • @pondus1492

And many never have. As it says "cover chords Beginners Acoustic!"

  • @pondus1492; Do you know anything about his videos? They are essentially for people who have never held a guitar in their hands before. If you aren't good enough to learn this song by ear, then you obviously need the extra explanation he provides. As he mentioned in the video; any experienced guitarist will be able to tell what he plays just by watching him play it at the beginning of the video. Missing a part? Look it up somewhere else. Not everything is convenient. Music requires some work.

  • @pondus1492

    make it better ...!

  • i love barre chords :P

  • WASN'T THIS DONE IN DOUBLE DROP D TUNING ORIGINALLY? ARE YOU USEING STANDARD TUNING?

  • Great lesson. Thanks. If this is a 'beginner' song, I'm not quite as advanced as I thought I was. Hahaha.

  • tabs or chords ? can´t find it pls help

  • WHAT GUITAR AND MODEL ARE YOU PLAYING ON?PLEASE REPLY!

  • NIce vid YGS....So what type of pickups, on ur electric, do u prefer for your rock songs?

  • hail to you ,guitarsage!

  • scrubs!!!!! ;-)

  • "Alright kitty cats..."???? Oooooh dear.

  • extremely extremely helpful !!!!!!

    thank you

  • Nice looking Takamine.

You're really very good at explaining for dummies like me dude!

    Thanks for the lesson.

  • hey, any hints on getting rid of the buzz im hearing i try play it, im not sure if im just not holding down the strings propperly

  • Hey im no kid im 21 years old! :P

  • you talk too much

  • On scrubs, I think he plays it a semitone higher

  • @RyJ2009

I'm pretty sure in Scrubs it's in D... and after the first verse you can hear a second guitar playing arpeggiated chords - something like a D D/Db C C/B

  • @leesagrrl

And maybe my ears are weird... but when the second guitar starts, I hear an added D on top (the 9th of C Chord) in the C.

  • Thinks man just what i was looking for

  • Hey, nice video. Would you be able to show what you're doing in the chorus? That's the part I can't seem to get. Close, but not quite right. Thanks!

  • hey buddy, men @ work are NEVER seen in guitar lessons .......except now thanks for the lesson, it's great. but if possible can you maybe teach us/me how to play "No sign of yesterday" on the overkill album. If you can, wow man that would be killer thanks in advance.

  • Anyone know how to play the g flat sus and the g flat?

  • How do you play the G#sus and G# at the end. Can't seem to get it right

  • damn this song is harder than i tought

  • Dude you need to explain which string and threat you put you fingers on make another video because im not learning much from it just a bit of the intro.

  • @_@ I need the important stuff like the full bar codes, they strangle my fingers. Could you please post like, a 2 minute or so video on just those three little chords?

  • they did a good job of putting him in scrubs though

  • Nice post. If you drop the low E to a D (which will change your G chord) this will be pert-near spot on. Thanks for your efforts. Keep up the good work.

  • Wow thank you for providing lessons. I really appreciate it. I heard this song the other day on Scrubs (lol I know, not much of a fan for Men At Work, just love this song colin hay played) and I was trying to pick it up by listening. Got the gist of it but this video definitely improved the sound and my finger placement. Thanks again.

  • too much time spent on the power chords. the harder part is just skipped over. you should post a lesson with the chorus. good lesson anyway, thanks for posting. you can't please everyone.

  • Hey yourguitarsage,

first of all, awesome lesson. I can't nearly play the song as good as you can, but eventually i'll get it ( i hope ) i wondered, colin hay also made a good acoustic version of down under. Could you make a lesson for that song?

    Greetz from Holland

  • Super! Tnx for takin' your time to teach this song. Now, could the camera be a little bit upper? So we don't see your fingers from a lower angle, if I make myself understood.

I'm into buying your ebook, great song, btw.

  • such a great tune...such a great lesson. Thanks for making me not smash my ovation against the way Belushi style from frustration :-) now I can actually "jam" out to a variety of songs. My ovation and I thank you guitarsage!

    D

  • ААааа... мужик спасибо!!! =)

    Aaaa ... Thanks man! =)

  • thanks for the lesson

  • this guys a good teacher. way to go man

  • Great video, but spent a little too much time on the verse and not enough on the chorus. Also you should do video for waiting for my real life to begin by coling hay or beatuiful world by coling hay.

    Thanks

  • that really help me alot thank you very much

  • Good job man..been playin 30 plus years and just got around to learning this one. Thanks for teaching it to me.

  • @maddoxhell 7:35 Dillweed. You should know what you are talking about before opening your mouth. You'll sound more intelligent. And chorus is spelled CHORUS, there is no A. Thanks for playing champ.

  • Thank you, I don't have a good ear for chords where the lowest note is no the root note. I stumbled accross this video and watched the entire 9.48 twice. Chord naming is another art don't have in the same situation. I call your Gbsus; Gb sus4/D so I'll know not to play the Gb on the 6th string. thanks for the non Bar fingering.

  • u looks like jon lajoie... hahaha

  • nice i love it you put on a good show just love it thanks iam still learning how to play the dam guitar

  • You took too long to explain the first part which is the easiest and rushed things up at the Bridge, which is the trickiest...

can't figure out what chords you're using from 1:09 on...

It looks like a G for me but doesn't sound like one

  • awesome work, man! you're very very good! great taste in music!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Why is thom Yorke giving guitar lessons?

  • I bet you could do a great Richard Dryfus impression. thanks for the lesson

  • doesn´t Colin use a drop D tuning for this song ? To have some Bass play along on 6th string

  • Thanks so much :) Hopefully I can get it set in my head so I can wow my gf with this one when she gets home :D

  • had lots of trouble with this one...and the lack of attention to the chorus made it extra tricky. In fact, the chords sound wrong to me, but it's probably just the shortcomings of a beginner's beginner (me). I'll keep at it.

  • and plzz can u do a second tutorial about the second part where theres A and G and stuff

  • awsome vid dude !!!!!!!!!!!

  • Cool song/Lesson!

Actually a chord is 2 notes or more played at once - the G5 is a perfect example, where you are only playing 2 notes from the key. "Intervals" are spaces between notes. :)

  • Correct an interval is the distance or space between two notes or points. Chord is 3 or more notes.

  • Addendum:You could have a G5 chords which represents 2 notes, the 1 and 5. BUT, you would need to have at least 3 notes playing for it to be a chord. Say 1,5,1,5,1. Thanks for the comment VirgilGuitar. Together we stand and kids learn how to play Iron Man...

    :)

    e

  • I will agree with that. The 2 note chords (5 chords) I was referring to were "power chords" which are not "true chords". meaning they can not be defined as major or minor - I had always referred to them as dyads....... How many guitarists does it take to screw in a light bulb? 3..... 1 to screw it in and 2 to stand there and say "I can do that better". Good stuff here... a former student of mine had favorited this page!

  • well why is Em two notes only? and it is a chord

  • Hi! Actually, Em is three notes. Don't for get the open low E string, it is a note also!

  • ???

  • @EliasOwnage95:

Em is five notes, 3 of them are just open strings

  • oh so u count the ones open too? i never thought of t´ht

  • @yourguitarsage

Actually, in Harmony Theory... An "Interval" is not just the distance between two notes... It's also Two Notes played simultaneously.

    See wikipedia Chord_(music)

  • Enjoyed this, so I purchased the ebook. I was right along with ya until the end where we had a rush-through, which was a bit frustrating, but I figured it out... mostly. I like chordfind for chords that I don't know, but you seem to be using a different G-Flat and G-Flat sus fingering than it shows.

For videos like this, I definitely recommend breaking into a two-parter than rushing through the end. Other than that, I appreciate what you're doing, and am enjoying the ebook so far. Cheers!

  • you are an amazing teacher!!

  • good job , you are good - good teacher

  • Oooomyyyygoood utube said the comments were not posted due some problem... man ive been spammin anyway i can play the verse now =D

  • There is Hand muting and Finger muting. Hand muting is easier but on acoustic it can be harder. At least for me. I'm also still working on it and still lack a few skills needed.

The original was done in the E key. You can use a capo on the 2nd fret to get that key or play it open.

When i play the power cords, I acutally never switch fingers. I use the 1st and pinkie fingers on the respective strings and get the same result. It was easier easier for me to hit those power chords that way.

  • I think that the idea is that if you use your first and third finger, it frees up your pinkie to do things (like grab sus-4 notes, etc) which will improve your playing over time, so it's a good habit to get into.

  • Oh Addon to make it clearer:

How do u make the 5th sound? How do u make the sound at count 1 sound just a little bit different and cooler and gosh i so dont get the verse :( maybe iam watchin to unfocused or maybe its the english (3th laungage :) ...

  • Oh addon to make it clearer: And u mute with the right hand 2 or? and how u let the 5th string hear? great vid btw ;) PS: lol 3rd comment 0.o(removed 1) man comments are long 2 0.o i should stop and practice now... 0.o...

  • Hmm. i can play but not with the muting cuz i just totally dont understand it cuz u hear the 4th and 5th but there muted and and *outbreak* :(

  • 17777 views lolz :D aaah just had to say that 0.o

  • Comment removed

  • are there any chance that you show us the solo??

  • i have an electric guitar :( but if i play without an amp it kinda sounds acoustic :) so i hope to learn this song

and i like this lesson it helped me out a lot

  • switch distortion off on your amp then or buy an acoutic, itll just be an aplimied sound no crackle

  • thanks for demystifying this one for me. I tried it back in the 80's and thought it was way too hard, don't think that now!

  • My hand isn't used to this kind of stretching but im sure it'll be worth it when i can play the song. Great vid btw

  • not really hard

    e

  • Love it Sage, your demo answered a few technical questions for me, tnx so much.

  • is there anyway i can get a copy of the music sheet you where reading off of or is it on actual paper?

  • can you get away with just palm muting the bridge?

  • Yes, that will make it sound nice.

  • Thanks, great video as always. I think BossRoss is talking about 'Beautiful World' by Colin Hay. Also a great song.

  • Thanks, great video as always. I think BossRoss is talking about 'Beautiful World' by Colin Hay. Also a great song.

Have a good day, and this video is wonderful! Thanks for share
