  • Hi Martin !

    I hope you remember me.

In 2000 we played show together on the ship "Splendour of the seas", only the violin and the piano, you and me, your wife was just sick at that time .

It was a very precious experience for me . As I remember we achieved a big success and musicians from the big band(12 piece band) made us a standing ovation on the stage.

I still have your CD recorded in The Gypsy Hot Club in Sydney.

I invite you to visit my web side :

    minu.za.pl

    Kind regards

    Dariusz

  • @darominu Hi Dariusz... that's a long time ago! One of my first cruises on RCI! Hope all is well with you. I like the music on your website... all the best to you!

  • In short, you're the BEST. Noone plays this stuff like you. Trust me.

  • For examples of the legendary gypsy violinist, Grigoras Dinicu, search his name here at YouTube... I can't seem to post links to the specific videos...

    Enjoy!

  • I had a comment from somebody telling everybody here that what I play is not real gypsy music... To each his own... everything evolves... the roots of what I play are most certainly gypsy. And I bow down to those who have gone before me, including the legend that our friendly commenter mentioned as being a "real" gypsy, i.e. Grigora Dinicu, whom, it is rumored, was described by Heifetz as the greatest violinist that ever lived. In my next post, an example of Dinicu's mastery...

  • xD, Hey Hey its Saturday at the end there. That takes me back =0

  • I was commenting on my FB page this morning about Chiron -- never realizing that you are the Fiddler on the Roof in my existence this time. Bringing the winds of change....and my hair really isn't red either. - SueAnn

  • J'adore !

  • Oh yes! Now THIS is a gypsy! Enough electricity to power a small country. Get enough of them together, and we won't need any more power grids.

    Such versatility! :-)

  • This video never ceases to amaze me Martin, so fantastic!! Blessings from Rose

  • @sweetrose1944 Rose! You are everywhere! lol! I am not following you, I swear!

i just happen to be part Gypsy so I decided to take a look at this. :-)

  • He is another kind of Paganini. He is fantastic. What a strength, on this mild instrument. Amazing he does not break it.

  • @Abina34 LOL! And I heard about Paganini. They say he played like the devil.

Well ..... figuratively speaking of course. :-)

  • Woah! This is really beautiful, well done! I hope that I hear more of you.

  • Hi Martin

do you remember the days in Chippendale with Colin & Fiona. I am the bassplayer that shared with them for a while. I now run a string program and can't wait to show my kids your clip. Fantastic!

  • This is wonderful. It sounds so pretty. i love it!

  • I remember seeing you play in Singleton NSW and loved every minuet. You bring something others seem to miss with you play. Please Martin come back down under and tour

  • I have once again rekindled my passion for The Gypsy Fiddler! Amazing video!

  • oh,beautiful,beautiful :)

  • Must say you play very good, is there a complete video of you when you play the two guitars :-) becouse now its onlya little part of it.

  • Unfortunately, there is not yet a full video of "Two Guitars" online, but I have one, which will be put up on youtube in the near future... stay posted!

  • ahh nice.. im looking forward to that :-)

  • This is great. Saw you at the School of Music, Queanbeyan. Where was the video shot.

    Peenbee

  • Video shot in New York City... "Don't Tell Mama" cabaret club. :-)

  • sounds like a typical sunday evening at my house, love it. Great job martin.

  • absolutely awesome - thanks for sharing... from a lil girl in new zealand:-)

  • You're just too much, in this one Martin. Fantastic! I don't know which is more brilliant...your music or the red hair! Love them both. Sweetrose

  • I don't actually have red hair! It was the lighting and the video... poor quality! But I guess it suits the musical style...? :-)

  • gypsy music is russian?

  • gypsy music draws upon all different national folk musics... russian, hungarian, armenian, rumanian... lots of eastern European sources... and then the gypsies give it their own flavor/twist/soul, expressing what is essential in their soul.

  • could not have said it better, myself

  • It looked great with the purple suit!!

  • Absolut Genial!

  • Please, what beautiful song is this?

  • First song is "Two Guitars" - a traditional Russian folksong.

  • Thank you! I wish I could put this on my iPod.

  • Thank you so much Martin Lass. Absolutely fantastic violin! What a great skill and talent (and handsome too). My Dad had an LP record of similar gypsy music. "Just for a Lark" @ 3.52 sounds very similar as I remember, and I really thought it was fab violin. I have just searched several sites on YouTube before finding this site and I can say that none have come close this wonderful video. Really lively sound. Violin at its best!

  • Wow. Incredible!!

I had Inspiration goosebumps the whole way through.

    Paul :)

  • Near the end, I liked this version of Orange Blossom Special.

  • At around 4.44, I've NEVER seen a violin played in that fashion, simply fascinating!

  • BRAVO! AMAZING :))

i myself a dancer appreciate this kind of genre :))

  • unbelievable!

  • this guy looks like the guy from full house lol

  • 1:11 was completely orgasmic, with the pizzecato bit.

  • he is AMAZING live. was this recording taken on the Crystal Serenity? xD

  • No, this was not recorded on Crystal Serenity. It was at "Don't Tell Mama" cabaret club in New York City.

  • Good God! That's hardcore.

  • Have seen him performing live at the School of Arts Cafe, Queanbeyan, Australia, and he is out of this world. Makes the violin sing and appreciated.

  • Piękne!

  • :D I heard this kind of music in my Music lesson at school, and I just HAD to look it up...It's amazing, so creative...:D

  • Mesmerizing.... Simply breathtaking. You make it look so simple - an extension of yourself. Wow!

  • Wow im somewhat into classical music but generally my taste is in very fast sort of neoclassical metal with guitar. Im curious what the part at 1:09-2:09 would sound like if transposed from the origional score onto guitar. I dont suppose youd have any idea on where i could find sheet music for this song would you? If not thats fine, either way i really enjoyed listening to this. That guy kicks ass.

  • Bravo Wonderful

  • i got to meet his in person many years ago, and have a photo of me with him... from when he was the fiddler, in a production of fiddler on the roof. i bought his cd, Full Circle then

  • yeah i met him when i was really young 2, i was at the fiddler consort aswell, i think it was like 7 years ago or something, and a 4years back, i was at the shops at like 9pm and i met him walking to his car again lol

  • fantastic if you ever visit the usa you must stay at my estate.

  • FABULOUS!!!xoxoxoxolivia

  • omg he looks a bit like jim carey

  • My friend sojogunn directed me to your videos... I'm grateful. You're great.

  • awesome!

  • he is violin elvis! thanks!

  • You ROMS know the violin!

I wish I could play as well as this man!

AMAZING violin technique. I think Roms taught Paganini how to play the violin.

  • DO you mean Roma??? the gypsy people are called Roma.

  • Indeed but this man isn't roma :)

  • That's right; I'm not Roma. My background is Hungarian, Russian, and German. But I grew up with gypsy music around me.

  • I love your music

  • What lovely use of harmonics! Mine don't sound HALF as good as his!!!

  • SPECTACULAR! Thank you for posting! Will

  • the first song is also recorded by Haris Dzinovic - Ciganin Sam Ja (I'm a Gypsy). I dont know who originally wrote it. anyway, very good video.

  • wow, well this gives me all the reasons I need on why I should go practice. Lovely pieces that bring out the entire soul of the violin, very happy to have stumbled across this!!

  • He's incredible! Fabulous technique. This type of music is not that easy to play. And he's a wonderful showman. His performance grabs you. I adore the Hungarian gypsy violin music! Always very lovely and extremely schmaltzy!

  • That was an example of "True Talent". This is music that is inspirational, imaginative and entertaining. Artists like this should get more air time on TV and Radio.

  • I fell in love with him like 15 years ago when my Mum took me to see him in Cairns. He played flight of the bumblebee on his baby daughter's violin.Oh he is amazing!

  • wooow I love that guy!! he is so brilliant!!

  • Hi!

Nice preformance! I love listen that music, I love "Red violin" the movie, and many others classical themes witch gypsy motives: Sarasate, Monti, Brahms.
