I'm trying to learn this stuff before my Sensei teaches me so I already kinda have an idea of it. But I find sankyo hard to do when choked cause I'm 6'2" so I have to drop my COG alot... (COG=Center Of Gravity)
What if the person choking you doesnt have his hand gripping your wrist? CAuse it seems like thise whole technique centers around that main initial move.
@Snapshot290 Didn't you see the beginning of the video? He shows this is practical even if the wrist grab is not there. The second you start to feel the arm come around, follow the motion. Spin in the direction the arm is going, sink into your stance, and move in the direction of the arms motion. Same principles.
be smart...elbow to the chest if hes got your arm, or......if hes got rear necked choke turn your head side ways and drop to the floor and well im not explainging what to do
@SkiSummer It's done that, because Aikido was created when Samurai were active, and holding the arm is to prevent grabbing the sword, but against hard chokes you can get out by applying pressure to the pressure points.
I'm going to make a habit of studying these vids. He really has an awesome way of explaining the technicalities behind an art. Thank you very much Gary Sensei.
Try giving his elbow a tweak against your the side of your head by kokyu-nage-ing him a bit more toward the elbow and off to the side/front rather than forwards. you can even catch the up and over hand with both of yours. Maybe I amthinking of the more practical aspects :-) Might even turn into an ikkyo variant if he refuses to roll. Anyway, I like it.
I love this guy! Great videos! I study a different style of Aikido from Gary (I do Iwama) but I love seeing the other branches of my practice. I live just a few hours away, and I hope it will be my honor one day to be able to train in Gary Boaz' dojo. Great presentation and attention to street effectiveness and everything. Please keep the vids coming. Thank you.
Another great video. I really enjoy watching your technique. I actually had to perform 3 counters to that situation on my last test. They were all different, but this is a great alternative. Thanks for taking the effort to post such great stuff.
