  • That was awesome!!!

  • You should do Wau too. I'm not sure how you'd arrange that, though!

  • Wow. So beautiful. cant wait to learn more about pi and tau @ school.

  • Tau is a beautiful creature, even in music.

P.S. Does anyone know how to type Tau on an Apple iPod keyboard?

  • please do ´phi´ 1.61803399!!

  • π π π π π π π π π π π π π

  • @CSNMar I prefer TAU!

  • this is amazing

  • Sounds a bit like the Assassin's Creed: II theme

  • music is applied math...did we discover fire?

  • 2:54

  • I'm playing this at my funeral.

  • Hello, would you have a high-quality version of this file somewhere? I don't want to pay $1 for a MP3 file. Do you have OGG or FLAC?

  • Why not the Square Root of 2 next. Another never ending number and used for so much.

  • "So, you know the rules."

    AND SO DO I~

  • I use mathematics in my painting such a quantum physics and the Fibonacci Sequence but I have also used pythagorean theorum & euclid elements, geometry i believe there is a connection which is traceable through math to all things and in that there is beauty, I would really be honored if I could mention this and some of your other work in an up in coming blog entry I am doing featuring my first art series of 2012 inspired by the mathematics of ptolemy, archimedes & plato, respond at your leisure

  • 1 is the "mirror" image of "9"...look at Morse code!!!

  • Beautiful. Did you tune the instruments to A=432 (frequency of light) and C = 128? Notice from C -> A, one has to add 60.8 FIVE times. (The number 5 is in the middle of the Yin-Yang). Those are the ONLY PERFECT sounds. All the others must be rounded up or down. It is amazing how many people are becoming "enlightened". Devil...no! The finger of God is at play.

  • i made it with the fibonacci sequence check "the fibonacci song"

  • You should try e and the golden ratio

  • You're talentless in reaity. We all know that you sold your soul to the devil. Nobody has such an incredible combination of talent, intellect and artistic ability whout supernatural intervention.

  • The cake is a lie. The cake is a pie. Then pi(e) must be a lie!

  • i think Tau is much better than Pi

  • @100deidara001 Ditto. It sounds better too.

  • Maybe I should try this with the base 12 version of tau, so it fits to all notes in between, making it sort of harder to find harmony... And btw, your version is GREAT

  • Pi is a lie!

  • What about the number 0? No notes?

  • @rovku that would just be the d below middle c

  • Personally, I think Tau is much prettier than Pi.

  • Tau sounds much better than PI !

  • I'm in love!

  • This is by far one of the most innovative ways of writing music I've witnessed, bravo!

  • Beautiful

  • I'm a little confused with the chords you are playing. I wrote them down as I saw them, and you played a sequence of 21(1)54265 in the chords. I can't find that anywhere in the digits of tau you gave. Is it only the tune that is tau, or are the chords tau as well, like you said at the beginning of the video?

  • @cbgoates The chords fall on the 1 of each measure

    |6.283|1853|071 79|586|4769|2 528|6766|559

I used a bit of artistic license with the 1st & 3rd chords but the rest of the chords are derived from the number that was on the first measure. So when the sequence 586 happens I'm playing the 5 chord (G), when the sequence 4769 happens I'm playing the 4 chord (F).

    Hope that helps!

  • @michaeljohnblake Thanks a ton. This song is awesome.

  • Tau sounds better than pi...

  • Amazing

  • This proves why Tau is better than Pi! Jesus Christ!!!

  • Shouldn't this video be at least 6:28 long?

  • tau is so much more beautiful than pi(:

  • What was the last instrument you were using with the paper and crank handle?

  • @XxDustxDustxX It's called a paper strip music box

  • Still waiting for phi

  • this is amazing. You should try pi?

  • @Jipzorowns youtube search: What Pi Sounds Like

  • @michaeljohnblake

ahhhh sorry for me being stupid and not search for it myself haha. Anyway, I love it!

  • How about a "What the number e sounds like"?

  • this is the song that never ends.....

  • Comment removed

  • You see, this is why I love math. You can do SO many awesome things with it <3

Have you tried any of the other mathematical constants, other than pi?

  • NEERRRDDD

  • @palmeiras321 trol get out of here

  • to me, pi sounds like the essence of the universe, and tau seems like both happiness and sadness at the same time...

  • 0:33 for the musics. :D

  • this is what AMAZING sounds like :)

  • Beautiful, but why are you using these constants in base-10? Something like base-8 seems more appropriate for a musical scale, what with octaves and what not.

  • this is precisely the kind of thing that they send into space just in case aliens come across it.

  • My class of 8-11 year olds were transfixed by this and the sound of Pi

  • this song is awesom

  • oh wow that was good but what is eating pie plus eating pie I now its basic addition

  • Sounds like an actual song.

  • harmonia mundi was a pattern of thought brought up after the dark ages...phucking religion...it thought the world was made of music

    see "string theory"

  • goosebumps

  • it has a more refined sound to it than 3.14

  • My favorite part of the song was at 3:14

  • @CSNMar I see what u did there! :3

  • @MRoERVICE I prefer pi to Tau so my favorite part is at 3:14. ALTHOUGH to be exact my favorite part was 3:14.15926535897932384626 which means I like 3:14 + 0.15926535897932384626 of a second

  • @CSNMar i only liked that part the second time i watched it....

  • @jat989 ... Lame. Pi is better than Tau. Simple as that.

  • @CSNMar Why is Pi better?

  • @spanishgame Because pi is just better. What kind of name is tau? seriously! I much prefer pi. What is Tau's awesome symbol? I think Pi has such and awesome symbol. π!

  • @CSNMar You have quite an emotional attachment to pi, if your only response to my question is "Pi is more awesome." I think I've decided: I'm converting to tauism. It just makes more sense in geometry.

  • Pi is so much awesomer

  • I definetely love this video

  • the beginning sounds like a song from mika^^

  • who knew math could be so beautiful?

  • @tejeyu7

It's completely arbitrary what note you assign each number, so this has no relevance on whether maths is beautiful at all.

  • @ihavekankles But if the notes are assigned consistently (if they don't change them at will, and the same note is assigned to the same number always), there's more than luck to how pretty it sounds.

  • you, sir, are a genius!!!

  • Now make one for e !

  • ...... DDD: So... so much talent...

  • Was that a violin or Viola?

  • Music For The Greater Good!

  • Oh my gosh... this is so amazing

  • Wooooow

I think I am in love with your brain lol

  • Very nice interpretation! For my little piddley thing I do with Pi, I use the B below middle C for zero, so should work for Tau. Mine is much less sophisticated, though.

  • how2copyright numbers

  • This sounds a lot like la valse d'amelie. Just saying.

  • kinda reminds me of the game Heavy Rain.

  • what do u do when theres a 0?

  • @XxWearsMexX it's like a "rest" in music

  • But what does X sound like!

  • I once loved Pi, and the sound it made was a lovely tune as the notes played. For a while, all was fine, until copyrighted, our 3.14159. Sigh, a sad day, but that's okay, for I see now, that there is Tau. (2011-07-28 intentionally not copyrighted)
  • What note is 0?

  • @Tuntururun Watch around 2:12

on the xylophone, for 0, he skips a beat.

  • What Tau sounds like is 6.28 times as good as what Pi sounds like.

  • @eckidini That would be twice as good. As in 2Pi=Tau

  • this is amazing :)

  • ohh........!

  • This is way to cool. What is the stringed instrument (1:32) that you play with a bow? I've never seen it, weird- it's so cool, i want one!

  • Comment removed

  • BUY IT!? i will download it with atube catcher haha

  • @temakixtiani You must be so proud of yourself

  • I´t to hear the sound of phi, and sqrt(2).

  • what instruments DON'T you play?

you know, you could apply some technique and be

...well ... amazing. take Mike Oldfield for example. he is a true genius.

  • Oh thank you so much for posting this! It turns out that this is the song that opens the secret door to the vault of eternity my basement! I've been trying to open that darn door for ages!

  • Actually, wouldn't it be more accurate to hit all the corresponding notes all at once?

  • How many instruments can you play?!

Your a freaking musical genious man!

  • please make my phone number song.

i will sing and may be remember it

    P.S. now it's my favorite song : )

  • Mind blowwwwnnnn~

  • You play melodica too?!

  • That is awesomely awesome!

  • Not tau bad!

  • HOW MANY INSTRUMENTS DO YOU PLAY JESUS FUCK

LEND ME SOME OF THAT SKILL >:c

  • Not bad, tau, not bad.

  • WOAHHHHHH THAT'S CRAZY

  • i flagged this video. i didnt think 3 1/2 minutes of insane orgy was appropriate for youtube

  • 6.28 > 3.14 in many ways

  • The beautiful music of the Universe. :)

  • Comment removed

  • I like how Pi sounds but Tau sounds a lot better.

  • You are a beautiful genius.

  • Next up, Euler's number! e

  • beautiful!

  • It would be more faithful if tau's decimals were converted FIRST into base 7, same with number of notes. Because as it is now 8 and 9 give the same notes as 1 and 2. As such we don't here their music...

  • @MrAlexGTV I'm sorry, but my brain just exploded.

  • @MrAlexGTV

if you want to be technical, 8 and 9 do not represent the same notes as 1 and 2, since they are in different octaves.

  • Extremely inspirational and motivational...

    Tears welled up.

    Awesome work..

  • Hi- my name is Michael John Blake and I play every instrument very well.

  • @14m13ch0p Really?

  • @thorn1009 no- i'm not really John Blake, but it does appear as though he plays every instrument very well.

  • @14m13ch0p True.

  • sounds like beirut

  • 1:21 Is that a laser banjo? Because if so, THE FUTURE IS HERE!

  • @gotztago he's using a ebow on the the string.

  • This is beautiful, thank you good sir!

  • Math + music

    The best mixture ever *-*

  • It's funny how a lower-quality MP3 costs more than a higher-quality CD.

  • would it be an idea to make the sound of phi, that should create a harmonious melody

  • I watched the pi song and the Tau Song at the same time. It was pretty cool but I'd like to see what it would soud like if they were played at the same tempo :\

  • awesome~~!

  • Any plans to interpret the Fibonacci sequence as a musical piece sometime?

  • I only like the piano part, can you make one video just the piano part?

  • Do the math on this one. There are 3,909 likes on this thread as to this date, there are 29 dislikes. 350,355 people have viewed this. Still we are left with only 29 dislikes. If there are only 29 dullards out of the vast majority of people who have viewed this, my faith in human kind has been restored! Let's hope these 29 people don't breed, let their little minds just die out!

  • That is the most beautiful song I've ever heard..

  • How's that harp/guitar/violin look alike instrument, i loved it, looking forward for an answer (:

  • I never knew math could be this beautyful...

  • This is twice as good as what pi sounds like :)

  • @walkingreject86 I see what you did there...

  • I just bought this song, simply beautiful. Thanks.

  • What if someone made vocaliod lyrics in this?I wanna make a vocaliod cover 4 this.

  • :O i didn't even know tau before i heard this!! if pi sounded gentle, tau sounds like MAGIC!!!! i'm waiting for a unicorn to show up anytime now!

  • And now a random number generator please.

  • my favorite part is 2:29 to 2:36

  • we can make other composition rules... say pi/tau and rounded to 12 digits... then apply that to a D,E,or F minor scale... and find some rule for changing the bpm's or the instruments... or make it a canon... etc... have fun !

  • How do you get your piano to press on its own LOL

  • Comment removed

  • I just noticed the eBow on the banjo. So sick.

  • The best musical compositions have always been based on mathematics. Just listen to Chopin.....or even better try the music of Frank Zappa! Great job, by the way on this piece. It is beautiful!

  • petition wolfram alpha to include tau as also meaning the circle constant. Link to tauday.com

  • Put this on iTunes :(

  • @agentdarkboote I'm french and when I want music I go to youtube listentoyoutube His works! ;)

  • Has e been done yet? If not, do e!

  • is this gonna raise my fire warriors ballistics skill?

  • @TehPostman at least this is for the greater good.....

  • @TehPostman I laughed out loud for real.

  • i had no idea they could fit entire pianos in those suits

  • Tau just makes more sense than pi.

  • I have never heard anything so enchantingly beautiful before. I've never known that the sound of numbers was so lovely! I implore you to compose more music based off of mathematics!
