come on,i would not get it even for free, what sound makes really nice is quality amp ,crisp sounding tweeters, deep solid bass speaker( at least 8 inch) and power 2x 100W,so whan you turn dial to half you can hear all bits, when small speakers and small amp to use same volume you turn dial to end and hear distortions reaching about 1% or more.do you want it in kichen when cooking ...ok,but for living room you need POWER.
I have not heard the S1 speakers, but I have owned the Icon for a year and a half (when they first came out) and the speaker output sounds quite good. I use it to drive a Stax SRD-7 Pro transformer and Stax SR-007 headphones, and it sounds like a $1000 electrostatic headphone amp. The internal DAC is decent, but their new Nuforce uDAC eclipses it and makes a good pairing. Cheers, HeadphoneAddict.
I've got a set of NuForce S-1's that I used to use with my Icon, but I swapped them out for more capable single-driver mini-monitors that I designed and built. There are advantages to the single-driver approach, but the S-1s have virtually no bass output - nothing below 120 Hz. A subwoofer with the Icon-1 and S-1 speakers is mandatory. Thankfully, NuForce came out with the W-1 to fill that need, but I'm more of a fan of my Velodyne Impact Mini in that application.
I used to be half owner of a used hi-fi gear store, we used to trade all kind of equipment, from 5W/ch single ended tube amps which cost +/- $5K to some other ridiculous priced gear. I have heard expensive Blade/Esoteric/Gold/Top of the line BS that has to sound good to the buyer since they got robbed that you're forced to believe it sounds good 'cause people rave so much about it. But why pay so much for shinny overpriced junk when a Trends audio or a Nu Force can do the same for a lot less?
I own a Trends Audio amp which uses a Tripath chip, it has received a ton of positive reviews all over. I haven't heard the Nu Force in person but it looks like they patented their own chip. These little gems aren't for people who usually get impressed with LOUDNESS, this are really high end, to play mp3 files on these amps would be an insult. FLAC is what should be used as a format for these, if all you care about is boomy bass, buy yourself some Logitech, Klipsch or some other junk.
They probably sound nice, but most consumers who use mp3 players listen to bass heavy genres(rap,r&b,electronic,ETC..). Unless NuForce has a sub woofer as an upgradeable option, the average ipod/laptop owner will pass these up!. These are seemingly aimed at an audiophile, not for a high school or college student.
Very true most consumer assume large bass quantities go hand and hand with quality but thats just not true. I thought myself a bass fanatic until i tried some really high end headphones and found the clean detailed lows better to my than anything i've ever heard before. Nuforce is very well liked in the audiophile community and may very well earn my bussness from what i see in the vid. It just sucks that people are so narrow minded and bass is all they care about when there is so much more. ;)
Lol...yes it is. I built my own Class T amp from 41hz (dot) com. It has 300 watts per channel and ran me about 500 and change with some serious mods and upgrades.
Ever heard of Totem speakers? I have the Forest Columns. Unreal sound with some custom cables I made out of special sheilded Cat5e cables with an interesting braided pattern.
RJ 45 plug? Who the fuck got this retarded idea?! It would be better with Speakon or XLR plug if it must be easy to connect.

I don't care how good those speakers sound or how much they cost. I wouldn't be caught dead with them due to how horrendous they look.

This combo is great and all, but this guy is so far from partial that he's come out the other side ;)

I have one of those sets connected to my Mac Pro.
Incredible sound considering the size and price when streaming .wav files accross the USB connection.
It isn't as good as my Rotel fed B&W 804s but they are damn good!
Cheers,
Bernard
