  • It is called a Shawm. Made from leather, with finger holes like a recorder, and a mouthpiece like a trumpet. The krumhornes are buzzing away in the background...

  • Rauschpfeife. Striking a blow for spelling.

  • I also liked this film, and really like the music. I was not aware the soundtrack had been released on CD either, so that is great information! Thanks guys!

  • i fell in love with geneive bujold! from this movie !!! i am gonna be 13 this friday!

  • What's the instrument that kicks in at 1:30, please?

  • @PrettyLittlePippin - I really don't know, but I am going to guess the krummhorn. Maybe some one else who has more knowledge will post.

Actually it would be great if all of the archaic instruments mentioned in my comment were IDed and at what time they kick in.

  • @PrettyLittlePippin

My guess this is the shawm. I played oboe and used to learn a little bit about the history of oboe instruments.

  • great!

  • Thank you so much for sharing parts of the extremely rare "Anne of the Thousand Days" soundtrack!!! It's one of my absolute favourite films and I love medieval and Renaissance music! I wish that someday Georges Delerue's original soundtrack will be released on CD. That would be fantastic!!!

  • @LadyViolet7

You are very welcome. Anne of the Thousand Days is also one of my favorite movies. Because of the 15 minute upload limit I had to exclude one of the tracks which included a selection written by Henry VIII. Delerue's score has been released on CD and I have it. EDIT- LadyViolet7, just reposted this comment sans my e-mail.
