@atvpt thanks for info. I went to my local dealer today and had a try and look. first of all you sit on the bike and it feels quite good. However... the finish on the bike is appalling. I mean were they serious when they finished it in that industrially slapped on grey finish?! the triple trees look like their off a 1970's russian scrambler. the tank is thin wobbly plastic.. the cabling looks like off a tractor and the wheels.. from a far look ok, but close up their like chinese built bmx ones
I don't mind posting this. We are all entitled to our opinions. The 2 bikes I had for review were in my opinion very nice bikes. If you don't like the HD, it is ok, there a lot of other bikes out there that are very nice too, some I don't like, some I do, but that's back to opinions.
Does it appeal to everybody, no, but it is another specialty bike built for those few that just have to have that type of bike.
It sure has been around a long time, and tractor tough it is.
this video confirmed a good trade in for my very uncomfy Yamaha MT01, cant wait to get it in January! I had a street bob before and i just found it to cumbersome around town and i like to use my bike for everything not just sunday ride outs! thanks for the vid!
I have been starting riding on a ninja 250r, and I am just about ready for an upgrade. Do you think this bike would be too much of a jump from the 20 ft.lbs. to nearly 80 ft. lbs.? I know in numbers it seems like a lot but I would like to know from someone having actually ridden the bike.
The Euro model had 10 more HP, but I am not saying that the XR1200 doesn't have enough power, I am simply saying you get more goodies with the x version, like the suspension upgrades and such, which make it a very appealing package.
I would let my wife ride it in a heart beat. It is great in the handling department, and the weight is not an issue. As long as your wife's feet hit the ground ok, you are golden with this bike.
@GeeClassLoco I am 5' 11", at 225Lbs., and the bike fits me very nicely. For around town or taking runs in the country through the twisties, the HD 1200XR fits me perfect. I never once felt like the bike's seating position didn't fit, or was the bike too small for me.
My suggestion would be to go test drive one before you buy it, and if you do test drive take it for a drive where you can check out the handling.
Good review, good images, good sound. And I really like the way you are driving. Very clean with respect of the motor. XR1200 dark color, my next motorbike :)
Will this be a good first bike? I do have ridden bikes before but they were all like low power 150cc bikes.

@Mark1Mach2
If you fit the bike, and take it easy while you familiarize yourself with the bike, you would be just fine.

@PittSteelers1345 I works like a dream around town, and also in the twisties.

Remember, you are the one running the throttle. So if you take it easy until you get the feel of the bike you should have no problems with it.

I've been wanting one of these bikes for awhile now. This video is killing me. LOL. What time of the day were you riding? No traffic? Great road!

@yama338dad
If this video is getting to you, just wait until I process the video from the 2011 XR1200X we are doing a ride review on.
The roads up here in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan are like that all the time. It is a beautiful place to ride bikes here.
If you get a chance to check out the XR1200X review on our web site, at atvpt.com.

is there room for the passanger to have feet on footpegs? with saddle bags? Hard to tell...

If your passenger is smaller in stature, no problem.

So you feel its not powerful enough? I think yours looks better than the 1200x. What the difference in HP in the two?

That bike is badass. There are a ton of aftermarket performance parts. Does it handle as well as the buell?
huntman125 1 year ago
I have never driven a Buell, so I can't make that comparison, sorry.
You are correct about aftermarket parts.
I would lean towards the new XR1200X model which has more HP, plus all the suspension upgrades that the Euro model XR1200 has.

Just a question... I'm 6'1" 265lbs.... would this bike be a little small for me...
I'm trying to compare you to the bike... size wise...
Cheers
