Hi Jake-- You mentioned the Coltrane changes before...I am not familiar with his famous change sequence, but from the looks of it (C-E-C-am-C) you are doing this:
C = root
E = third of root (C)
C = root
A = 4th of E / 6th of C
C = third of am, also root of song
Could you just quickly outline the Coltrane Changes in Intervals for me?
I can see it has something to do with thirds, but going back to the "C" after the E is throwing me off.
@Jamsessionroom1337 Ok! That's first step! But It's not that simple. Though the progression is basic. Anyway I've tried that first conversion, and simply it's not right combination! ;)
@Jamsessionroom1337 I'm dealing with the 9/8 beat chord changes! ;) That's not standard rock or pop progression! I've watched the video! That's why I'm asking Jake for a suggestion on this one!

@jaibhakti Hey brother, Coltrane changes works like this -
Breaking the 12 notes into three equal parts, in Major 3rds...
So in C - C Maj, E Maj and Ab Maj.
Those are the tonal centers. Then add ii-Vs to each key:
C F#-7 B7 EMaj7 Bb-7 Eb7 AbMaj7 D-7 G7 CMaj7 ...
Thats the basic idea. To get the first sequence in "Giant Steps" it goes like this:
C Eb7 AbMaj7 B7 EMaj7... Do you see? We're just adding V7s and ii-V7s to those three keys!
hope that helps!

Great lesson! Tnx!
What would you suggest me to do with this progression -
V. : Dm, A, Dm, Gm, Dm, A, Dm;
Ch.: A, Dm, A, Dm, Gm, Dm, A, Dm ?
P.S. This is an old gypsy folk song. (YT link code: PhwXfFxk4ho)

@zile20584 sorry about that... My theory is horrible.. i just saw what he did an incorporated it. :P
He also said to incorporate some #9s and b3rds into the chords.
You should watch the video again. :)
