  • Quick question, whats the range between the tracking system and the gps system in the plane? not the range between video TX and RX, just the tracking system, Thanks.

  • The tracking system works using the video link. So the range sepends on the power of video TX and the antenna used with the video RX. The osd placed on the plane sends the necessary GPS information through some hidden lines of the video to a video decoder.

  • Could you use a ground shielded relay to switch to a small wire antenna when it is say a few meters away? to prevent the patch antenna lagging behind and possibly losing radio connection?

  • Probably it's possible but it's not so important because I never had problem of video link when the plane is very colse to the patch antenna.

  • Very good work!!

Though the patch antenna did seem to lag behind the plane a little, was this due to GPS location accuracy or processing time? Was the plane always within the field of view of the antenna?

  • Thank you!!

Yes, I think the little delay is due to gps accuracy, you have also to consider that the test, done very close to antenna and at high velocity of plane, is very critical for the system, that has to change quickly its position. However there wasn't any break of video connection.
