I see you don't know about this cultural tradition. It's common for spectators to give money to the performers in appreciation of their abilities. You'll see it in other video's of this type as well.

You are right in this. For someone out of the tradition it may seem weird though. We know this kind of behaviour as something 'unethical' I guess.

Haven't you ever seen someone give money to a street/subway musician (aka buskers)? It's not just an African tradition, it's common worldwide.
