Just saw the video after searching "hawaii freeways". I can imagine ragtime piano music playing in the background like in the YouTube 1911 April Fool's prank. :)
Yes, there are freeways in Hawaii. I've been on them. Besides having about 1 million residents on Oahu, the freeways there are congested because most of those residents are on the island's south side, concentrated around Pearl Harbor, the Honolulu Waterfront and Waikiki.
@Hanssen69 The H-3 freeway into Kaneohe, exit 9 (Likelike Hwy) or exit 11 (Kam Hwy). Going left at Kam under the bridge takes you directly to the mall. My apologies if this has already been answered.
Look at 0:15 seconds the H-1 seems to look like the 134 freeway in Downtown Glendale at rush hour and at 30 seconds the scenery looks like Downtown Pasadena on the 210 freeway at the 134 interchange. Although this is Downtown Honolulu this seems to have a Southern California feel when your on the H-1 freeway.
I noticed when I drived through Downtown Honolulu on the H1 Freeway it seemed like I was driving on the Hollywood Freeway heading to Downtown LA and I-110 because it seemed like every hour was rush Hour on the H1 Freeway. I am from California.

When you get to the H-3 Freeway it reminds me of driving through driving on the Grapevine but narrower.

I have videotape of H3 from 1991, but the sun was glaring in our direction.
