Genius i really wasn't expecting that to work as well as it did. Im going to build a plow as well i get a alot more snow then that so dont think a 2x4 will cut it but awsome stuff!!!
Hah! Neat! Never would have thought to attach it at the receiver. Works well enough. Is that an AWD or front drive Patriot? Any issues with it getting stuck?
Hi. I think that the use of wood is very underestimated. Its a realy cheap and easy way to develop larger constructions from. Some of the jerks leaving comments here have no imagination at all. They don´t realize that something might be a prototype. Anyway, nice work!
Another low cost alternative for a rear mounted snow plow is Hitch 'N Plow which is a 3 point hitch adapter that allows you to attach a category 1 farm implement to your 2" Reese hitch. Cost of adapter is $149 and all you need is a winch (about $100) and a 6' 3pt blade which is about $300. In total about $550 for a low cost snow plow. I developed and patented this when I lived in Lapeer, MI. Search on Hitch 'N Plow on YouTube for a video.
Hey that seems to work well for lumber.LOL.I use a kind of kick stand device on each end of my plow to lift it while backing up.Its just a metal arm with a rubber pc bolted to it.Hangs down free while going forward/catches ,lifts, and leans against the plow while backing.Just a thought. Thanks for sharing your video.
I recently made something similar for my full size pickup out of treated-lumber 2X8's. I pull mine instead of push. (with two tow-straps on either corner) Can pull with the rear hitch or with the front tow hooks driving backward. my driveway is only about 50 feet long. I drive down the driveway dragging it, stop, pick it up and toss it in the bed of the truck, back up, get out, drop it in the snow, and do it again. Three passes and about 5 minutes is all i need to clear a 2-lane drive
Either way, beats the hell out of hand-shoveling and is way cheaper than a brand-name snow plow. I use mine maybe 3 times a year for 5 minutes each time. teh 1500 dollar plows are for pro's who use them for a few hundred hours a year, and are overkill for me.
I get a kick out of all the negative comments... you took a concept and made it work! It is a little bit shallow for doing the whole plow job in 1 run, but it doesn't matter - go twice! Maybe you make it a little taller - easy!?? Maybe people don't notice tha fact it is v-ing the snow aside because they are wanting somewhere to dump negativity. Good job - Anyone can drive into a shop and have someone else install a WAY overpriced plow - you created something that does the job for cheap.
And it gives something for the complainers of society who dump negative crap something to do. No wonder there are so many people who say "I can't" all the time. It's a shame kids get to read all the bad language and "see" all the bad attitudes out there over something as simple as a plow. What is that old saying... "if you have nothing positive to say... say nothing at all"??!! On the other side of things dude, the complainers probably don't have the guts to try and build something anyway.
Thanks for your comment. I appreciate it. Frankly I get quite a chuckle out of the negative ones, because I laugh all the way to the bank because my rig really works for me and cost less than $50 instead of $1000+
I agree... I am thinking about doing the same thing but on a little bigger scale just to plow a driveway to a camp out. Use an old junker 4wd with a rig like you've built and I won't have to snowmobile in all the time or get someone else to plow it. I really would like to see the updated version. I hear ya on the cost - I'm in New Brunswick and ALL plows are overpriced - even worn out rusted out ones. It's ridiculous. What did you make the pole underneath out of??? I
The current version is quite a bit BIGGER than the one shown in this prototype video, which was mainly a test of the hitch concept. I have also added an automatic hoist for when I backup. I'll post a few photos on a follow-up video soon.
Stupid shit shoudnt even own a jeep you discrace the brand. get back on the short bus and go clue cotton balls to paper. That fucking plow is a joke. You lazy shit if your drive ways so small use a fucking shovel
wow you're smart! if a ''plow'' like that works for u then thats great. but where i live, fargo ND, we get a real amount of snow often and i do have a name brand snow plow and spend a lot of hours pushing snow so somthing like that would never work for me or anyone else in the snow removal business . i do agree that anything beats shoveling tho.
Sure - I agree. In Ohio where I live, we get the 8-10 inch snows about 2-3 times a year. And I only use mine (just like the guy in the video does) to clean ONLY my OWN small driveway. Clearly, anyone living in Fargo where it snows more and more often, and/or anyone who is a professional in the snow removal business, makes it worthwhile to have the REAL plow.
You are very good at innovation...and all the power to you but on the lighter side....I was wondering if you where at all related to Professor Van Noostrand from Seinfeld?
Actually looked into those mini-snowblowers before I built my plow. But now I watch my neighbors get all dressed up in warm clothes, to fight the howling winds for 30 minutes, while I jump in my warm jeep and am back in the house in 4 minutes. (SMILE)
PS: The current design (not the one in the video) DOES have additional layers of the 2x4's and plywood to give it extra height. I am thinking about an automatic mechanical lifter so that when I back up it will raise the blade a few inches to prevent the snow from getting tangled up in the vee.

I just took a look at the video's you took of yours. Reminds me of the first few days I had mine, I was out in the back roads, gravel pits and had fun rock crawling and water fording. Unfortunately I didn't have any video footage (just a few photos). Its a fun vehicle.
Yep looks like it works really well. The snow rolls right over the top of it.

not a bad design at all actually. about the only thing i would suggest is make the plow part a bit taller to push more snow out of the way.

that is pretty crafty but if i were i i would put like a 1.5' 3/4" piece of plywood screwed to the front so you move more snow at a time

Just an idea guys.... a boat-trailer winch or a come-along to raise and lower it . low tech and cheap but easier than picking up by hand.
