I had a 10 year old corn snake named "Viper" (I know, cheesy name but whatever) who would do the same thing. Once he got over 6 feet long he just didn't seem to feel the need to kill prey that he could simply overpower. I used to go out and catch anoles for him. (he thought they were candy)He would just bite them in the middle and break them in half as he swallowed them. Glad to know its not just him lol.

@3453445isback Odd, I've never heard of a snake that will only take live food. A snake, like most animals with a small brain run on instinct not intelligence. My black headed python (much like a woma) has a very small heat pit and in the wild will eat reptiles. He prefers to eat food left in the enclosure. Snakes can be particular with food, eg a damper warm adult mouse for my diamond python being dangled in front of him has or chance of being taken than a dry cold one.

If you were really pro evolution you wouldn't keep them as pets, and you'd support the prey having a chance to escape, and you yourself would go and live in the jungle yourself with nothing. @TheNavigateur by feeding a snake dead food which loses a lot of nutritional value you are actually depriving the snake of some of what it needs, and if you knew anything about constriction of prey by snakes you would know that the animal doesn't feel pain other than the initial bite, during constriction the prey suffocates basically being sent to sleep, yh it's forced but i understand that snakes aren't supposed to be aided in their feeding process they do have a brain you know.

I had a 10 year old corn snake named "Viper" (I know, cheesy name but whatever) who would do the same thing. Once he got over 6 feet long he just didn't seem to feel the need to kill prey that he could simply overpower. I used to go out and catch anoles for him. (he thought they were candy)He would just bite them in the middle and break them in half as he swallowed them. Glad to know its not just him lol.

there is nothing wrong with feeding your reptiles live food. its accually better for there natural instiincts to hunt instead of being fed a frozen or pre killed mouse. i feed my water monitor live bunnies becuase he likes the chase he wont eat them unless they run from him. but you have to be careful. if your snake doesnt do signifigant damage to the mouse b4 ingesting him the mouse could cause internal injuries to your snake. good looking snake btw

@3453445isback Odd, I've never heard of a snake that will only take live food. A snake, like most animals with a small brain run on instinct not intelligence. My black headed python (much like a woma) has a very small heat pit and in the wild will eat reptiles. He prefers to eat food left in the enclosure. Snakes can be particular with food, eg a damper warm adult mouse for my diamond python being dangled in front of him has or chance of being taken than a dry cold one.

Even so this is what most people do, but if a certain snake refuses this method the only other option is to feed them live, as they would normally do.

@LeonDGM Isn't keeping them as pets and feeding them mice who aren't capable of getting away also unnatural? What about for the mice? Isn't it putting them in an "unnatural" situation? You're clutching at straws. None of this is "natural". Snakes have to fend for themselves in the wild. Everyone has a choice of what you want to do. I don't see the point of deliberately creating these circumstances: an artificial advantage for a snake against another being. Nothing is gained from it. It's sick.

I don't get what people are bitching about. Once the mouses head is in the snakes throat, it gets crushed because snakes have very strong muscles to swallow with.
People who say its cruel, yeah it is. But news flash, nature is cruel, and if this didn't happen every second in the wild something would starve to death. Mice are food on four legs!

You didn't answer my question, have you ever had pain the opposite of what you wanted that you badly actually wanted to stop happening? About me? Here in the USA we feed our snakes 2 ways, one pre killed or 2 (Live)
I feed my newborns prekilled until I determine weather they can do it themselves. I honestly don't care what the snake does to its prey. Thats how god intended it to kill its prey. Who am I to alter millions of years of evolution? Go whine about needless human deaths not a snake eating food. Yeah I get it. Its suffering, for like a minute thirty until its dead. This is how all constrictors eat.

It's unnecessary in order to keep your snakes happily fed, you alone (not the snake) are knowingly causing this suffering, you give the being literally no room or chance to escape, and you blame evolution? Purlease. Would you put yourself in there, trapped and hating it, simply in the name of evolution? Have you never hated pain? Why would you put another through it, or have you not "evolved" yet? I bet even an animal wouldn't knowingly do that to any other.

@chriskmfdm constriction is the actually the most painless way for animal to die really because the animal goes in to an almost subconcious state after about 30 seconds which is faster than most snake venom bar the select extremely deadly snakes, why the hell that guy is arguing about completely natural behaviour. btw cool name for a snake (gambit)

@TheNavigateur dude why are you arguing about nature, snakes are amazing predators i'm fortunate enough to get to work with many types of snake and i wouldn't want any other job because snakes fascinate me as predators. i feed all my snakes (i live in england) which is rather large collections seens as a room in my house is full of snakes and other reptiles with live prey to make them be as natural as possible, in a way its wrong not to feed them live because of what they have evolved to be.

@aiden1876 They can be perfectly happily fed with dead food, despite evolution, just like us. If you were really pro evolution you wouldn't keep them as pets, and you'd support the prey having a chance to escape, and you yourself would go and live in the jungle yourself with nothing. So stop lying. You have a choice to have the snakes happily fed (just like us) with dead food and also not cause huge amounts of pain to other animals. Have you ever had pain that you hated and wanted to stop?

@TheNavigateur by feeding a snake dead food which loses a lot of nutritional value you are actually depriving the snake of some of what it needs, and if you knew anything about constriction of prey by snakes you would know that the animal doesn't feel pain other than the initial bite, during constriction the prey suffocates basically being sent to sleep, yh it's forced but i understand that snakes aren't supposed to be aided in their feeding process they do have a brain you know.

no its just that alot of colubrids dont, squeze their prey only pythons and boas, colubrids just eat, venomous snakes bite and start eating or bite and let go and follow the animal around till it stops and finds em and eats em
