Thanks for the pick me up. Been debating on going back to school but hadn't for those very reasons. This helped, will go sign up for Fall Classes Monday :)
As far as schools I would thoroughly look at the school and talk to people that have graduated from the school and see if they are working. The design schools that advertise on TV like the Art Institute and others I think are a joke and I would stay away from. Hope that helps.
Psychologically strenuous is the best phrase Ive heard ever for how it feel to be a graphic design student. It is so hard when I put my soul into something, my blood sweat and tears into it, and I dont get a good reaction. Not only in my school work, but when I show family and friends my illustrations. It almost physically hurts me, because Its me on paper and if they dont accept it than its really me they arent accepting. At least in my twisted artist mind.
I used to have the same problem, until I figured out that I should not get emotionally attached to my art work. The way to conquer the emotional attachment for me was to tell my very closest friends to tell me what they see is wrong with my art and I found that generally the viewer(friend) is correct. It made me work even harder to perfect my art and in essence my friends helped me to become a better artist than I was. I learned more from criticism than I ever did from someone praising my work.
I'm not a graphic designer but i do say after watching this video, that when I was in high school I was planning on going to the art institute in the dallas area, But my advertising design teacher told me not to go because of them being too exspensive and you not getting a drgree from them. I wasn't sure about the degree thing being true or not, but I do know that I took her advice and felt regret on taking it. But now after looking back on it, I just said to myself that she was probably right.
I was thinking about Going to AI Dallas. I've heard mixed things, Ive heard they give great training and give you great supplies, BUT Ive heard they weren't accredited!! Does anyone know anything that can help me? What are some great schools, whose degrees hold weight in the Corporate world?
