Hayley shows plenty of emotion but, vocally, I don't think her performance was particularly good. I'm a huge fan of Hayley, so I'm quite disappointed by this. Her high notes sounded yelled and sometimes even flat. I don't like her pop-style singing.
This is the best performance I've seen from Rhydian, though. His singing was outstanding. Not as emotional as Hayley, but it wasn't wooden, either.
There were 2 takes of the song recorded live so they may have cut bits together from the two takes, hence the slight ack of continuity. The whole thing was fantastic live I can assure you...couldn't wait to see it again. Rhydian did a great job considering he was recovering from a vocal bleed he had only a couple of weeks before.
It's definitely live, there hasn't been any studio performance of this before, and it certainly does sound like a live performance, but good observation, but even with the mic down I think she's still singing?
Or wait, the second before that she's still having the mic close to her mouth, so I think it's with the editing of the clips XD
@Simbaleo22 Yes it' was recorded 'live' but there may have been a re-take (who knows why) and the two bits put together on the broadcast in a way that, shall we say, leaves something to be desired? I didn't notice though until it was pointed out!
@hwivid I was there and there were two takes. Rhydian was not well, he had a vocal bleed and I think it shows. These two are great together - I hope they reprise this now he's back on form. Despite that I enjoyed this performance immensely.
@Simbaleo22 she has a wire mic on her shirt so that picks up the voice it is like in the interview she talks without having the mic close to her mouth.
It's beautiful, but something confuses me at 1.43-1.45. First Hayley holds the microphone at her mouth, the next moment she's holding it further down - while she's still singing! Perhaps this isn't a live performance? Or there might be some other reason why they chose to put the clips together like that, I don't know... Anyhow, they sound beautiful together, although Rhydian looks a bit tired. Perhaps he was ill at the time?
