The best version I know from this beautiful song is from Claudia Acuña (Alex Acuña's wife!) in duet with double bass... Avishali Cohen is a great musician!!!!
Incredibly beautiful interpretation of "Alfonsina Y El Mar", though, with slight pronounciation errors. I never much liked Avishai Cohen on bass guitar, but his performances on double bass are of a beauty that goes beyond description!
The song was written by Ariel Ramirez yo honour the Swiss-born Argentine post-modern poetess and playwright Alfonsina Storni Martignoni who happened to commit suicide drowning herself on the shores of Mar de Plata the 25th of October, 1938. In fact, the song talks about her suicide in a very delicate and respecting way.
I'm especially impressed with the M. Cohen's voice/bass performances; the listener is meant, perhaps, to take a more active internal role in "realizing" the implied harmonies. When he accompanies himself on the piano, "what you hear is what you get", and while it's pleasant, it's not quite as interesting. Thanks for posting these clips!

I´d be more than happy to give Avishai some pronounciation lessons.
Otherwise he´s awesome, a genius.

Music is by Ariel Ramírez, a top Argentine folk composer; lyrics by Félix Luna, a renowned Argentine historian.
