grrr i wish it was wednesday already 3985 is gonna be here from oct 1st to the 3rd when it leaves at 8am it arrives here in sioux city at 2:15 pm on the first. im hoping to get some pics of it.
We rode on a train pulled by a coal-fired D51 engine in Japan, and when I stuck my head out the window to take a video I got a bunch of coal particles in my eyes. Not a smart move of course but it shows how dirty coal engines were.
There used to be a major railroad on Oahu for Pineapple and Sugar Cane crops with some passenger service. Passenger service ended in the 40's, I believe. And the crops ended in the 60's. The Hawaiian Railway Society operates a few of the old switchers and cars.
AH-HA! Thanks...I figured it had to have some sort of combustion modification because it sure is running strong without belching out big storm clouds!
It might be..? On the other hand, smoke from coal fired classic engines results mostly from too high gas speed through too small fireboxes driven by a primitive exhaust based on used steam. What about a huge firebox & steam going back into a condenser & a modern exhaust system?

There should have at least one fast steam train running in China for tourism. >.<

Is Challenger still operational? Just wondering if it'll make its way to California.
