    the cheap guy

  • Well done!

  • great porch!

  • Hi, I'm John, Loved your video. Question: Do you know for certain that the blue color is better for heating up the room quick? I will b creating a solar oven, if blue is better than black, i'll try it.

  • Oh no, black is best for absorbing heat, I just didn't fancy a black porch and after dark brown and colors like that, blue comes in pretty close.

  • Thanks for the praise. One the other points, I wanted the glass to go to the floor to get max solar gain. I'll probably put a piece of lexan along bottom windows to 30" high. The deck is well braced underneath. The top woodwork was just for the insulated floor and to make the windows fit where I wanted them. Wait till you see the solar I've put on my roof! Video coming soon. Come on America, let's get with solar heat, we can do it.

  • Hi Tony, this is a wonderful video, so much info in a short amount of time! I'm going to be a tiny wet blanket here, sorry, I do like what you've done. It's about CODE, and possibly you've met it? But windows so low, must be tempered against breakage, also, some of the wood you used appeared to be PT, or pressure treated? YOU are very innovative and it's wonderful to see someone put theory into practice where heating is concerned. One last thing... don't hate me.. deck bracing seemed light?
