It has been years since I heard the original french version. But this sounds very much like the Terry Clement composition.

Terry took it to a record producer who wrote new english lyrics and wanted writer's credit which Terry would not relinquish.

If my cousin had had the foresight 2 copyrite it, he would be famous today.

I guess he thought it was enough that everybody in south Louisiana knew it was his song.

Just like John Foggerty to look up and record the original. *****
