  • I love his vibrato! :D

  • I have no clue about music's technicalities and if Shafran is the best cellist or not, but why am I crying?

  • Wow!!!

  • he's damn good. the best of all youtube bach cello suite 2 Courante.

  • how about that last note! a quarter tone flat!

  • @cpincomb yes! maybe the bad quality of the video?

  • This sounds to me like what Servais might have played like back in the day.

  • why all this shit extreme vibrato in bach!!!

    this is bach!!!!!

  • @RibalMolaeb I'm not quite sure if Johann Sebastian Bach said something against shit extreme vibrato. Did he do this?

  • Hahaha! While half the world tunes down their cellos for bach, Shafran tunes UP! Awesome.

  • That last note was hilarious.

  • He looks like John Malkovich.

  • Omigod I love Shafran's style. A very very romantic interpretation. Amazing.

  • do you see that frikken bow work??? its ridiculous! its so mechanical... like wow.... i can't explain...

  • I know... I think he even swatted and killed a fly with the bow at 0:57... did it so fast we didn't even see it!

  • Got a train to catch?! Slow down and enjoy the music, this is a dance not an exersize.

  • He's just doing a different interpretation- not one that you might use, but he does it with sincerity and he gets the point across.

  • @jamanticus Shafran has incredible technique, he is even more talented with Rostropovich, But after thirty, he went crazy and started vibrating like crazy. He used to play like Rostropovich, piatigorsky, and fuermann but then something hit him and he started going backwards. Thats why Rostropovich was so much more famous.

  • Umm... the Bach Cello Suites are stylized dances, intended to be played in a concert setting. So you can forget about that train :-P

  • I think because he using Amati Cello!

  • what the hell are you talking about?? i've heard this movement played waaaaay faster

  • This is a pretty standard tempo.

  • Incredible! XDD

[Umm, but what was with the note at the end..? That was a mistake..right?]

  • I think his intensity of tone rivals the queen of intensity herself (du pre) - yikes!

Coming from a guy that's listening through speakers inside the computer (not external or headphones!)

  • probably the best interpretation of this i have heard

  • Check out Mischa Maisky's interpretation

  • you are very ok.but you are very not expressive some times.

  • hahaahaha dude, this is one of the best cellists EVER. he is extremely expressive and i don't think you even know who this is (which is a shame)

  • Great! I like his interpretation.

  • realmente bueno, vibrante pero sin demasiadas florituras

  • very good

  • luchshe vseh

  • hi bzyakalka from forumklassika :)

  • the best!

  • Fantastic, although I like Maisky's playing a bit better as he simplifies the piece, whereas shafran is harder to follow.

  • the finest person i've ever seen...

  • brilliantly!

  • genial!

  • wow!

  • Finally somebody put something played by Shafran on this side! Thank you klee0000!!!!! Do you have more videos with him? And who can post videos with Karine Georgian, another extremely intense cellist?
