it also depends on your speed, tires, and other things. I bet if you drove the honda they had, and at the speeds they were going, it would be in that tune. you can't tune it for every car on the road...
Nope. I drove it, in a Honda, at the same speed, with the factory given tires advertised in the ad, and it still sounded bad. The new location is even worse. xDD
It was already paved over, but they put it somewere else. Its still in Lancaster though..... On Avenue G between 60th and 70th I think......It sounds better there...
This was a failed attempt to have the grooves play the "William Tell Overture" (theme to the Lone Ranger)... but they apparently never consulted someone who KNOWS how the tune goes. It's off in its intervals and its rhythm at the end. It's close enough for people with no musical ear to say, "Uh, the Lone Ranger?"
Its a shame a few have to ruin it for everyone else! HONDA invested HUNDREDS of thousands of dollars into this project! FORTUNATELY for everyone elses pleasure HONDA is graciously going to Do this at another location. COnstruction will begin in two weeks... (10-20-08)
What or who in the world lives nearby enough to have complained?! From the looks of the scenery, the only inhabitants might be a few tumbleweeds and prairie dogs! That's ridiculous that someone complained...I think it's cool! (Or WAS cool...)
i saw this video on msnbc, and heard that the city of lancaster paved over it today. I didnt know at the time, a specific speed should have been kept, i really didnt know much, just knew it was something i wanted to capture and put on youtube. the city of lancaster is talking about putting something like it near appolo park ave G.
According to the AV Press, they are going to shave the road and repave it starting around Wednesday Sept 24. I called the City Hall and was put in touch with Pauline East, who said she'd recieved around 50 calls and the multiple complaints she recieved were from the same 5 people (presumably the ones mentioned in the paper). She said if we were really intent on keeping the road we should all attend the city council meeting at 5pm on Tuesday Sept 23. I hope everyone will attend
I didnt realise i was supposed to drive slower, so the pitch is not as it should, it originally was used in a HONDA commercial. and because of complaints from those that live nearby, as of 09.18.08, the grooves have been removed, alas no more singing road.

Actually it won't be paved over until 9/23.
We drove on it today, so you still have a couple days to try it out.
