  • Look out dng files i think they are caled. Your camera is probably newer than you cs2 then it do not suport it. But there are a adobe program that can add dng info to the picture i think.

  • Someone please help! Whenever i try to open a RAW file it says "could not complete your request because it it not the right type of document". I have photoshop cs2 but im not sure if that has anything to do with it someone PLEASE reply.

  • Awesome! I don't have a RAW-capable camera right now, but I'd like to eventually buy one. I'll also try to play more with my JPEGs to get more out of them, even if the quality of the photo slightly decreases. At any rate, it shouldn't matter when posting small images to the internet.

  • well i have cs5 , but when i put my raw pic it says some error and check camera raw , i try to update it ,but another time error !! i was wondering if adobe camera raw is a seprate program from photoshop or connected to it ( i mean if u should buy it seprate ?) and if seprate is it the same results that in adobe PS ? plz urgent answer

  • Gavin, you've produced the best series of photography videos on YouTube, bar none. I've been through hundreds of videos, and your series is by FAR the most useful, informative, and enjoyable to watch. And most of your photos are actually good, unlike a lot of the other instructional videos here. You have a new subscriber. And thank you.

  • Gavin, i come from holland. I watch your video on youtube every day. I've learned a lot about photography and photoshop from you, thank you so much! you are the best!!!

  • I said it before and will say it again, Gavin You are the best on youtube. Thanks a lot. And check my timelapse video please, it's my first time :)

  • can i do this without a raw photo?

  • @Matthew1762 yes you can look up his video "Jpeg in to RAW - Quick Shots 01 " turn learn how.

  • @Matthew1762 yes you can but some parts might lose detail as jpeg is an 8bit file, but a raw is a 16bit file.

  • Thanks Gavin!

  • Mr. Gavin.... how many lens do you have and what kind???

  • Guys, can I save presets also in Photoshop CS4 same as what Gavin did?

  • Hey Guys.... do any of you know where i can get the Adobe Camera Raw program he uses? I just purchased CS4... is it included in that? Just curious... im a bit new to all of this.... thanks guys!

  • @ImCHADg Yep, Camera RAW 5.X is bundled with Photoshop CS4. Just open any RAW file to Photoshop and Camera RAW will magically appear!

  • @PhotoGavin what about CS2? thats what i have but it says it cant open my RAW file. is the files problem? or my version of photoshop?

  • @PhotoGavin I had to download it from the Adobe website but it was still free. I am using CS4 as well.

  • @PhotoGavin

is it the same in photoshop elements 9?

  • @ImCHADg I'm sure you've found it by now but ACR is part of Bridge more. You can select a RAW file there and Command (or what ever that is on the lesser computers ; ) + R or double click it.

  • Thank you! Helped me understand how much you can do with RAW images!

  • Thanks so much Gavin! I've been searching around for photography tutorials, and yours have proven to be most useful. If everyone shared their knowledge, everyone could become so much better.

    Much appreciated, thanks.

  • The location is The Balcombe Viaduct in West Sussex, UK

  • could those effects also be added to a jpge file or it must be raw ?

  • It's best to use RAW.

  • Thanks Gavin your videos are great keep it up.

  • i love your tutorials ... thanks a bunch for sharing knowledge

  • Gavin, can you explain a little bit more on the differences of RAW against other formats. Also on the diffences on enhancing the photo in Photoshop itself against Adobe Camera Raw. Thanks for all the videos. I bookmarked your videos and im always waiting for your next posts.

  • In Raw you have all of the information that the camera captured. If you were to save as a JPG (jpeg) then the image is compressed and much of the information is loss. This prevents you from making the kind of adjustments you would like to make. By using Adobe Camera Raw to do as much of the processing as possible before going into Photoshop you are able to work in RAW and your image is not altered permanently.

  • The changes are saved without changing the pixel information and can be changed mutiple times without information lost. As you can see from Gavin's video you also have the ability to create presets. You can then apply these presets in BULK to many photos.

  • Son of a gun!! You have taught me so much since I found you videos! Your amazing.

  • Great video Gavin. Keep up the good work.

  • I really enjoy your tutorials, even that I know a lot about photo editing, I always find it interesting when you talk or place a new point of view for the obvious things :)

  • Gavin, what lens is that at the beginning on vid? You used it for infra red vid too, didn't you? i'm looking to buy a lens, so just browsing around. Ald like always - excellent video, thank you very much!

  • Can't really see the lens - but I guess there's a red ring around it and it looks like a 77mm thread. So it's either the 24-70 2.8L or the 24-105 f4isL.

  • Yes it's the 24-105L

  • GO Gavin Go! And Never STOP!

  • thank you! this is very very helpful for a beginner like me.. :D

  • thank you very much! u made my life so much easier=)

  • That was the Canon 400d. I often use that camera when I'm traveling as it's a bit lighter then my other bodies.

  • also is there a technique similar to this for flower pictures?

  • Thanks Gavin, exellent video. been wondering how to do this for a long time :D

  • Another great video, see you next week

  • great tutorial, but i have 1 question, is camera raw 5.2 (the edit software you are using in this video)

    is this an adobe product?

  • Yes. This is the version that comes with CS4 or Lightroom 2.

Having said that you can do all this in RAW 4 which came with CS3.
