1:52 "He was the outsider, he spoke to legions of dysfunctional kids" That's what I respect the most about Kurt's art. It's mainsteam and it was accesible for the masses, but I think, even if my ego is speaking here, that we are the ones that truly understand Kurt and his music, the deep meaning of it, and not those posers or mainstream guys who just listen to the music because it's catchy, trendy and hip. Because his music was a shout of someone looking for understanding, love and endorsement.
at the back of bleach, where it shows the names of the integrants it says kurDt instead of kurt, probably because the D is right under the T on keyboards and typing machines
Your right, i know this guitarist, who's been playing guitar for 30 years he's an amazing guitarist, he knows all the technical stuff , he knows everything. But you know there is something missing,' Feeling'. it doent send that shiver down your spine when you hear it......Cobain one the other hand does, he's an amazing guitarist, the most simplist things that he creates are so effective. I just goes to show its not how much you know its how you know it that counts
i just got a reply saying that if i think kurt was one of the greatest guitarists then i need to have my head checked maybe its people like you and me who know that good music doesnt have ANYTHING to do with how fast you can solo or how cool you are. it has to do with the energy and feel of the music. Just because the dude can dragonforce can play really fast, doesnt make him a good guitarist for shit.
kurt WAS and STILL IS one of the greatest guitarists who ever lived

@TheWackymachine well, Just once again after 20 years ENGINEERED for Dave Grohl. as Vig was the Engineer, a name a bit more familiar was the producer ;).

@Hippiesfest69 he was quite sloppy live and there are many guitarists with better rhythm look at some thrash metal stuff dave mustine is one the best in the world
There are several schools of thought when it comes to "ranking" guitar players. It's really a pointless debate, which typically boils down to who you like the most. Frankly, had Cobain lived, he would not receive the recognition he is given today. Was Nirvana great? Sure. Awesome band. Does pop culture over-idolize the tragic losses of young musicians? Usually. Not to disparage the good music they made, but think long and hard whether he would be idolized so heavily had he lived.
@Hippiesfest69 Steve Vai and Satriani and Gilbert all spent years at guitar school but their songwriting creativity is crapola. The self taught guitarists are always more creative ,you have to be creative to learn the secrets of the guitar instead of having sumone go 'put your fingers here'.
@Hippiesfest69 With all due respect, Cobain was not a great guitar player. What he was, however, was an amazing songwriter. The guitars were not complex or original, but they were exactly what they needed to be for the music.
@Hippiesfest69 I agree, that should be obvious to anyone but we are living in a world filled up with commercial music, not art. Cobain made art, he was an artist, just because you can play fast solos means that you are an artist, you may be a professional guitar player, but not an artist just for that. Cobain was clearly an artist, and a great one.
@Hippiesfest69 You, kind sir, are very intelligent, unlike many other people. I'm a guitarist and nothing pisses me off more than people who say guitarists who only play fast are amazing. You're exactly right, they got nothing on Kurt!
it didn't necessarily build on the solo but songrwriting is way more important than technical guitar playing. I'd pick kurt cobain over Eddie van fucking halen you fucking mong.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
nirvana didn't kill the fucking solo. If anything they built on it. when you look back at the eighties it looks like a novelty. But the 90's were just fucking cool - and i'm 14 biatches!
It is ironic that, despite the "I don't care about anything" image of the band, they succeeded because they had an excellent, old-fashioned, work-ethic.
It can't be underestimated how important Smells Like Teen Spirit was when it came out.
I distinctly remember being so sick of the fucking Warrant and Winger shit that dominated the radio and had just reverted to listening to classic rock as it was the only music of substance easily accessible. But one night, I caught Smells Like Teen Spirit on the radio and it was so real, so raw, such a pure expression of all the angst I was feeling, that I could feel everything was about to change.
@LilC2012 This era of popular music has pretty much the exact same suck level as the one from 20 years ago. The whole thing is bankrupt just like it was then. But there is always great music underneath the surface. What you have that we didn't is a high functioning internet that allows you to find great stuff by a merely clicking a button. Prior to '92 unless you had access to a scene or a maybe a great record store you were stuck with what was on the radio. It was fucking awful.
@psychicwhoosh nevermind sucks kurt wanted to make a catchy pop album that would be a parody of how easy it is to make a hit it is far from his best and nevermind is a very bad album one of the most over rated of all time.
Okay, mr. man. mr nirvana fan #1. What do you think kurt would say about people using the word fag in negative context? In ONLY tstaed i don't like the beatles bands name was mentioned like 20 times here.
I always thought that kurts favorite band/artist was Daniel Johnston anyway.

CreamyKrau 1 year ago
@Hippiesfest69 With all due respect, Cobain was not a great guitar player. What he was, however, was an amazing songwriter. The guitars were not complex or original, but they were exactly what they needed to be for the music.
xiaodown 1 year ago 2
@Hippiesfest69 I agree, that should be obvious to anyone but we are living in a world filled up with commercial music, not art. Cobain made art, he was an artist, just because you can play fast solos means that you are an artist, you may be a professional guitar player, but not an artist just for that. Cobain was clearly an artist, and a great one.

@Hippiesfest69 If you honestly think that kurt was one of the most amazing guitarists who ever lived, you need your head checked..
rockisland100 1 year ago
@Hippiesfest69 You, kind sir, are very intelligent, unlike many other people. I'm a guitarist and nothing pisses me off more than people who say guitarists who only play fast are amazing. You're exactly right, they got nothing on Kurt!

it didn't necessarily build on the solo but songrwriting is way more important than technical guitar playing. I'd pick kurt cobain over Eddie van fucking halen you fucking mong.

nirvana didn't kill the fucking solo. If anything they built on it. when you look back at the eighties it looks like a novelty. But the 90's were just fucking cool - and i'm 14 biatches!

which explains why you have no idea what your talking about

The 3 of them were so cool back then.....unique and special talented guys standing out in a sea of mediocrity.
JBinOtown 2 years ago 4
honestly nirvana was one of the most mediocre bands, yet there was always something about their music you enjoyed, no matter how easy it was.

LilC2012 1 year ago
@LilC2012 This era of popular music has pretty much the exact same suck level as the one from 20 years ago. The whole thing is bankrupt just like it was then. But there is always great music underneath the surface. What you have that we didn't is a high functioning internet that allows you to find great stuff by a merely clicking a button. Prior to '92 unless you had access to a scene or a maybe a great record store you were stuck with what was on the radio. It was fucking awful.
psychicwhoosh 1 year ago
@psychicwhoosh i wish some new band would rescue us and put an end with all this BULLSHIT MAINSTREAM MUSIC!
Ballermhcdj 1 year ago 3
@psychicwhoosh nevermind sucks kurt wanted to make a catchy pop album that would be a parody of how easy it is to make a hit it is far from his best and nevermind is a very bad album one of the most over rated of all time.
