It is obvious to most that "The Kennedy Detail" was written to counter Vince Palamara's findings. The verdict? Blaine FAILED, as his friends did in Dallas
i knew Larry Newman after he retired. He was a real straight guy. If you want a prototype agent, this guy would be my pick. If he says anything that "offends you", understand he doesn't lie or sugarcoat anything.
President Kennedy was a very nice man, was NOT difficult to protect, and NEVER ordered the agents off the rear of his limousine (nor did his staff). The buck stops with the Secret Service. Don't believe any books by former agents trying to say otherwise!
Ran out of room - to add to what I read today in this book. The secret service official, whose name I forgot, but I believe he was there during the JFK administration said that JFK's sexual conduct was not as bad as they guys are making it out to be. Just thought I would pass it on.
Saw a book today that was written a few years ago about the Secret Service, In the book, a Secret Service official said that these 4 guys that ragged on JFK's sex life were junior agents at the time and were not privy to this kind of info. He said that the only way they could have found out this info was from senior level agents - and none of those agents would have told anything like that to anyone least of all junior agents. He said these guys came up with these stories for money.
@0907oliv thanks! yes, I am much aware of the book: Phil Melanson's (I am in it). The agents made NO money for their stories-I believe them: they are corroborated by others, as well. The REAL question is the ire they felt toward JFK AND did this affect their actions on 11/22/63?
I figured you would know which book & I am not surprised by your response. I think that Sherman and McIntyre have the most hostile attitude - and wasn't McIntyre the only one there. I think he was too far back to do much of anything - and if they were ordered to stay off the rear bumper what could they do? Going out and drinking until the wee hours of the morning was a bit much.
@0907oliv well, I make no excuses for these clowns-they can burn in hell for what they did and didn't do...not that I'm bitter lol. I spare them no quarter, but will concede they were hamstrung by Roberts and Boring (and Greer)
These agents most likely protected LBJ too & they don't seem to be concerned about LBJ being with a couple of hookers, which I know happened. I think its all about blaming Kennedy for his death. It's like saying "See, he wasn't concerned with his safety & aggravated our efforts to protect him. " I didn't mean to imply that JFK didn't do any of this, I just meant that it may not have been as flagrant or as often as these guys are implying. But this is a major confidentiality breach.
@0907oliv exactly. The blame-the-victim routine won't work anymore: films, photos, documents, and my many interviews (and correspondence) debunks the notions that JFK was difficult to protect and ordered the agents off the car
@sikorski1337 Yes that was Vince Palamara's comment also. If you notice on this site, Vince Palamara and I have an exchange about the book. He says the author is Melanson. I couldn't find it tonight in the book store where I saw it earlier.
@0907oliv Thanks. Yes, that is a very common, over-the-counter book that sold fairly well and is well known with the Secret Service---former JFK agent Tony Sherman (in this video; I spoke to all 4 of the agents in this video and MANY of their colleagues, as well) recommended the book highly...I am in that book, as well :)
Have been reading some of your material on line. I'm getting an idea of what your opinion is on all this. You have a lot of material on line, it is taking awhile. It is nice to read that some of the Secret Service guys have such glowing things to say about JFK.
What do you think of the Secret Service revealing all this stuff about JFK? Isn't this considered confidential? Seems to me this is something they should discuss with their superiors only. I found the first portion of this video about the loss of the baby Patrick to be quite touching .
I agree that that portion (Larry Newman, whom I spoke to several times) is very touching. This documentary (and the accompanying book) caused outrage with the Secret Service, as well as many of their past colleagues. I spoke to all four of these gentleman.
It is clear to me that Larry Newman loved JFK. Also, I have read that the guy who authored "The Kennedy Men" spoke with Paolella and asked him what did the Secret Service really think of Kennedy. In response, Paolella's voice began to break and he said that they loved him, that JFK never treated them as if he was superior to them. I understand that JFK kind of set himself up for this by not being more discreet, but I still feel that they should have not gone public with this.
I am talking about "The Kennedy Men: 1901 to 1963" by Laurence Leamer. Sorry to hear about the Blaine book. Please no more revelations. I am beginning to question the veracity of these books I've read too many things that don't sound right, celebrity writers fabricating quotes, seasoned writers with bad sources and exaggerating things because they are obligated to find something bad to say. The drug thing is exaggerated in this film. JFK didn't see Dr. Feelgood that often.
Further comment. The irony is that Lyndon Johnson was horribly promiscuous and used prostitutes all the time, but you rarely hear anyone tattle on Lyndon. He doesn't make as much money as the Kennedys.
To continue: Seems to me that this makes future Presidents really uncomfortable with being themselves in front of the Secret Service even when they are not doing anything scandalous. There is a new book out right now with the same issue. Thanks for the invite to subscribe. I hadn't planned to do that at all. I don't know what that entails. I just wanted to keep it simple. I would like to communicate with you a bit outside of You Tube. Is that possible?
I can't see how this affected the lack of security on the trip. Leaving agents behind at Love Field, not having agents on the limo bumpers even when on a crowded street, Shift Leader Emory Roberts ordering agents not to move at the sound of the first shot, the driver braking - the set up is what is to blame.
