Well, he mangles the Aramaic, but he really captures the emotion of cantorial music.

AND Aramaic: one of those interim vernaculars that had faded away by the time Kol Nidre appeared AFTER the destruction of the Second Temple. Kol Nidre is in Hebrew. Poor ethics to spread misinformation just to comment. AND American rabbis and cantors slaughter prayer- book Hebrew—assuming modern Hebrew as spoken by native Israelis is more authentic than what is taught in Jewish-American seminaries.

It is really a masterpiece, There are a lot of singing teachers and voice coaches around the world that keep that album as a reference for their students. That´s the degree the artistry of our idol reached. In a nutshell, the album is the best from the best. I keep a few copies in vinyl and CD.

Just for everybody´s enlightenment, Kol Nidre and Eli Eli are Jewish classic religious songs, the words, though are in Yiddish, nor Hebrew. Johnny does them perfectly (as usual).

Hi everyone, this isn't hebrew or yiddish. it is an ancient language called "Aramaic", not spoken anymore. Much of his pronunciation is good and of course his singing is out of this world gorgeous.
