I have that on audio tape. I never heard this version with different words "menu dar lag da". I remember some peope objected the original words, so they were changed afterwards.

This is a truly great song and it is shame that the original aasthai had to be changed due to censors. This song is in Raga Darbari and Tala Keharwa. Very few, if any, singers can sing a song of this nature without compromising the underlying raga. Noor Jehan, of course, has no problem doing so.

Goodness Gracious jimmy unbelievable! In 1983/82 i was probably 6 or 7 when i heard it last. I used to think/sing as if she said "meri bahn" instead of meri vail as a result my Ami slapped me silly and then chucked the casset away LOL. Regardless of "tha-per" i think its an awesome song just the way i like em!!!!

Thanks for this song, Jimmy! I heard it after a long time. I felt the song is not as bad as it is said. The tune is good. Especially I liked the composition of stanzas. But as I said in my previous post, the first line of the song is very odd and double entendre. It is simply an absurdity. I always think why Noor Jehan sang this song? What was the compulsion? Why didn't she return it irritably to Khawaja Pervez (Lyricists) and Taafu (Music Director).

inaam, if you remember those days songs became a 'vulgar mujrah'films like 'khanzada, khatarnak, nawabzada, dada and many more, had these sort of vulgar songs...and picturization of those songs were even 'yak'...nazli, aneeta, najma and couple of unknown girls did these sort of dances

This is the most controversial song of Noor Jehan. After the objection and criticism, the first line (which is the only vulgar part of the lyrics) "Kujj phiss gai ae, thodi paat gai ae" changes to "Menu Dar lagda, gharon maar pave gi" in the movie soundtrack, but the "Phiss gai paat gaii" version already sold in good numbers.
