Ironic Tom pleads with them to understand because he knows the service wrecks their lives and they don't listen, because later Zoe goes into hiding and Danny is executed by terrorist.
Be good if they brought Tom back since Lucas is gone. and It would be pretty cool to see 24 and Spooks crossover or something...that would be a blast!
Thanks, I actually liked both actors they (kind of) replaced his character with...but they didn't end those actors storylines well (IMO). The writers were got lazy it seems.

This was so unnecessary. Tom obviously was still traumatized by his ordeal. He wasn't ready to come back. He needed 6 months off and counseling. In many ways he was suffering from PTSD. He'd given years of service to the Crown. To just drum him out of the service was wrong. AND it was a waste of resources. If push came to shove, take Tom out of the field and set him up training new recruits. His skills are valuable.
@sunnchilde You're right. THey put him back too early and took a huge risk. However, MM wanted out of the show, so I guess they kicked out his character for that. They could have used a diff storyline though (one in which he wouldn't be in the field).

I see Tom's point of view, it's a harsh and dangerous world that eats you away, but the fact remains the world isn't sunshine and rainbows, someone has to make the impossible decisions, it's simply how the world works. But anyways, Tom was able to walk away from a life that destroyed everyone else.
I'd like to see Tom back too but as a human being he is better off. This line of work just uses you up until there is nothing left of you. Now he has a chance for a real life.

I started watching from season 7 and it gets better and better... I tried watching from season 1 but never really got into it. Season 7 and 8 are amazing
i thought i wouldn't like spooks after tom left, and it did take me a while to get into S 3. but it's a great programme with so many beautifully drawn characters like danny, harry and ruth and i've really liked adam and roz together.
but the tension has been getting more intense in later series. last night i saw the last episode of S 6, it was soul- shattering and it left me feeling upset for hours. now i really don't know if i have the guts to keep watching when series 7 starts here!

you shoulda just watched the show, there was great writing and acting that built up to each of them leaving or dying. the writers do it because it keeps the show fresh, and realistic. if it was the same cast always it was just go on and on and slowly become less popular. perfect example of that = smallville

(since she was fired too) and they got married.
YES! Now I feel better. because I felt that the C.I.A girlfriend was angry at him because she got fired because of him, but thanks! This certainly feels better now.
This clip is surely great. I thought: NO NO!! Poor Tom :p! But I guess Tom is such a great character, because that was the first leading men most of us knew... I really liked Matthew MacFadyen's performance, because he is a great actor, but I still think Adam (Rupert Penry-Jones) and Lucas (Richard Armitage) are great leading character's as well, with all their differences! I am just more used too Tom, but they all grew on me and the whole show is just great :)
Ive just finished watching season 6. I love Spooks its brilliant tv show.Sometimes I still miss the original team Tom, Zoe, Danny. Always when I get used to some characters they are either killed or they have to run and hide but I guess that makes the show successfull u never know what happens next. As I mentioned above love the show and cant wait for season 7
Just watched this episode on PBS. They've been showing the earlier seasons (titled MI5) on Thursdays. Been watching the current seasons of Spooks on BBC Canada and it's really a treat to get to see it from the beginning with Tom. When Lucas came back to MI5 he asked Harry where Tom was and Harry replied: "Early retirement". I'm glad I got to see this episode and now understand what Harry meant. Great great show. I really liked Tom, Adam is great too, but Matthew is an amazing actor.
The situation at the end of the series 2 is summed up well at the beginning of series 3. if you can see the last one from series 2, it might be helpful, but if you start from series 3 you'll probably understand what's been happening. Just that the impact of events and characters might not pack so much of a punch.
I remember missing a few episodes on A&E, then tuning in to see this exact moment happen. Tom was definitely one of my favorite characters. Watching the series now on NetFlix, you can easily see that this was where he was headed.
If you've got friends with Netflix, spread the word. Seasons 1-4 of this show are streamable! Maybe even Season 5.
LOVE the show - wish it was on more here in the states. American "dramas" pale next to MI-5!! I also don't like that the characters get taken off but that sort of adds to the realism! At the end of season four you really don't know if Adam is coming back or not. And I NEVER expected Zoe or Fiona to go off - you tune in one week and BANG, your favorite is gone. You just never know! You watch "24" and you'll pretty much know that next week you'll see Keifer again.....

i dont like the way that all the main characters get killed off, but i do like the way that they give us some just as amazing characters in their place, and well, at least its different.

This it seems to be a great serie and l don't understand why we don't have it here, we never get to see some of Matthew's work in this continent and l hate that because he is a great actor and he do always works in great tv shows and movies, but we have to search somewhere else and it's a shame.
I was flipping through the channels and I saw 2 episodes. Since they are from BBC they don't show those shows here in America, but they were so great! I don't know much about it but it's sad to know that Tom is not on the show anymore, or should I say Matthew.
What i dont understand about the last series was Russia's role so much. For me the series failed to explain Russia's interest in Britain, what was that rubbish about them being an energy superpower? I cried like a little girl when Adam died, and I miss Zaf, when he beat up that guy with the baseball bat...it was just...perfection.
Russia *is* the energy superpower. It produces more natural gas than any other country, alternates between first and second in producing more oil than any other country.
It also has the second largest coal reserves. In case you haven't seen the news recently, there was a pretty big crisis a few weeks ago where they threatened to stop sending gas into Europe. If you live in Europe, there's a fair chance your electricity is provided by Russia.
I KNOW, but Russia seemed to be solely involved with Britain, what was rubbish was that it wasnt established well, as there was very little particpation from other countries. There was no global crisis that there should have been if Russia was to be cast as the 'big bad' of the series. It was mainly Russia and terrorists this series, whereas Yalta etc was global.
Does any one agree that spooks after the breakdown of characters in series 3. That spooks is downhill with bad acting from the two woman and the not so good music, copying the bourne theme (slightly) Not looking for negative talk here cause im a huge fan of spooks, own the first 3 on dvd. Just a shame TOM Whent and the rest, and then i just started to like adam and he goes lol
I dont think a programme like spooks can keep the same male leads forever, although its a shame to see Adam and Tom go more have come, i think this season of Spooks is the best for a few years.
I agree, and i have to say while i do miss Adam and Tom i think Lucas is going to be an intresting addition to the team. What i really like though is just as Adam was a very different charecter from Tom, Lucas is also a diffrent person.

well actually- i read the interview when the shows second or third series aired- and it was with the creator of spooks david wolstencroft and another woman who had something to to with the writing and researching into the programme.
it wasnt as if MI5 came round to their houses adn nicked their manuscript but i recall both saying that a couple of government officials and other people enquired as to what the programme would include and to ensure that no really important info was used.
i hated the first few series when the young agents were still acting like it was some respectable proud service they were involved in. Its a friggin nightmare being involved with the security services. I hope toms character returns. Definitely my favourite actor.
This series of yours is really impressive, alot more believable than say "24" where you know the stars will never die. Great story-lines. Everything from Alquaeda, Dianna, gov't, military even environmental fiction(we hope).
You British put a more human face, faults, under-funding and all, on the issue. I applaud you for it.

I met Matthew just after series 3, bloody nice bloke. Best character ever in spooks I dont even watch the new ones any more because the characters and plots went down hill after series 3.
I wouldn't necessarily say that. The two-part opening to Series 5, for instance, was brilliantly written. It genuinely frightened me in parts because the idea of the UK being taken over in a legal coup is, to anyone familiar with the structure of the UK government, entirely plausible.
I believe that it leaves out a major stumbling block, the Crown.
I believe the Crown retains the right to reject even dismiss a government.
I think even the Realm Dominions like Canada, Australia, New Zealand & others have their militaries & civil service swear loyalty to the Crown before the sitting government?
So in a way, the Monarch could end a coup ironically similar to how the Japanese Emperor ordered troops who rebelled to even make him absolute ruler, to surrender themselves.
The power of the Crown is almost purely nominal. A Monarch hasn't dismissed a Prime Minister since 1834, or dismissed legislation since 1708. George V attempted to dissolve Parliament in 1910, following the battle over Asquith's 'People's Budget', but in the end it didn't happen.
Our armed forces may swear loyalty to the crown, but whether or not they would rise to defend the crown is purely a matter of how loyal they are..
Her power may be traditionally, but she does legally retain more power than you think. The monarch has the right to veto & pardon in any realm. Every Intelligence agency reports to her, she knows more than the Brit PM. She advises all her PMs.
Foreign diplomatic representatives in London are accredited to the Queen, & she has the power to conclude treaties, to declare war and to make peace, to recognise foreign states & governments and to annex & cede territory. Sure is legal issue. Here too.
Like I said, a load of this power is merely nominal. The UK retains many wacky laws which in theory could be very damaging but are never carried out?
Despite the death sentence being abolished for most crimes in 1964, it still remained for Treason until 1998. One legal definition of Treason (which still remains) is putting a postage stamp bearing the head of a British Monarch upside down!
I dunno, alot of us admire your system. Our 2 party system sure isn't working and this idea of always voting for the President from the opposite Party controlling the Congress/Senate gets us nowhere.
Your Queen/Royal Family are very popular around the world, & that's saying something coming from an American.
When I was stationed in England, I remember a corruption issue where the Queen 'convinced' some politicians & bureaucrats, usually untouchable, to resign. I like your Parliamentary system.
Politicians resign when the Queen 'convinces' them to because they know the public and the media will tear them to shreds if they don't; most of the Royals' power comes from the UK's high proportion of royalists among the public.
Don't envy our system though. While I doubt we will become a republic any time soon, there is severe pressure to reform our parliamentary system.
Many people here drool for the American system of a clear separation between executive, judiciary and legislature. It may be slower, but it's infinitely safer.
One thing Canada's Parliament really needs to change is the unelected Senate. It should be elected. They are a bunch of patronagees who usually just collect a pay-check, and terrible attendance record who only seem to rush to a majority when it comes to voting themselves pay raises.
That's another thing I'd like to see taken out of politician's hands, let us vote on their wage hikes or CUTS, not them ;).
But I do agree, our Parliamentary debate requiring our PM to answer directly is better.
OMG! Matthew is SO unbelievably HOT! Why the hell did they take MI-5 off BBC AMERICA? It IS such a good show! 24 is the closest we have to MI-5 in the US, even though its entertaining, it has very little emotion. The US is only good for comedy, movies, and Doctor shows but UK rules for MI-5 & Robin Hood.
I wish he hadn't left. The show has slowly but steadily gone downhill since then. There's no charisma or chemistry for the main characters anymore. They need to end the series before it becomes pitiful to watch.

well i did... haha im bored.. but yeah tom never comes back, but the writers did write a novella about him caus they knew fans wanted to know where he's at. he's never going to be back in the show, but the writers wrote that he is now running a private security practice with his girlfriend from the C.I.A. (since she was fired too) and they got married.

This clip is surely great. I thought: NO NO!! Poor Tom :p! But I guess Tom is such a great character, because that was the first leading men most of us knew... I really liked Matthew MacFadyen's performance, because he is a great actor, but I still think Adam (Rupert Penry-Jones) and Lucas (Richard Armitage) are great leading character's as well, with all their differences! I am just more used too Tom, but they all grew on me and the whole show is just great :)

Ive just finished watching season 6. I love Spooks its brilliant tv show.Sometimes I still miss the original team Tom, Zoe, Danny. Always when I get used to some characters they are either killed or they have to run and hide but I guess that makes the show successfull u never know what happens next. As I mentioned above love the show and cant wait for season 7

Just watched this episode on PBS. They've been showing the earlier seasons (titled MI5) on Thursdays. Been watching the current seasons of Spooks on BBC Canada and it's really a treat to get to see it from the beginning with Tom. When Lucas came back to MI5 he asked Harry where Tom was and Harry replied: "Early retirement". I'm glad I got to see this episode and now understand what Harry meant. Great great show. I really liked Tom, Adam is great too, but Matthew is an amazing actor.

The situation at the end of the series 2 is summed up well at the beginning of series 3. if you can see the last one from series 2, it might be helpful, but if you start from series 3 you'll probably understand what's been happening. Just that the impact of events and characters might not pack so much of a punch.

I remember missing a few episodes on A&E, then tuning in to see this exact moment happen. Tom was definitely one of my favorite characters. Watching the series now on NetFlix, you can easily see that this was where he was headed.
If you've got friends with Netflix, spread the word. Seasons 1-4 of this show are streamable! Maybe even Season 5.

LOVE the show - wish it was on more here in the states. American "dramas" pale next to MI-5!! I also don't like that the characters get taken off but that sort of adds to the realism! At the end of season four you really don't know if Adam is coming back or not. And I NEVER expected Zoe or Fiona to go off - you tune in one week and BANG, your favorite is gone. You just never know! You watch "24" and you'll pretty much know that next week you'll see Keifer again.....

i dont like the way that all the main characters get killed off, but i do like the way that they give us some just as amazing characters in their place, and well, at least its different.
however, it is hard not to miss tom or zoe or danny or adam or ruth or colin or zaf and i could go on forever!

It really is a great show.
It's far more realistic and believable than our "24", as if we really believe Jack's life is ever really in danger.
But this series with all the star-deaths and burn-out and our vulnerabilities is really far more believable.
I notice the recent seasons are for sale but the video stores say they aren't available to rent?
what's up with that?
Both video stores in my town had all Mi5 vids outright bought.
I'm waiting to find some package deal to buy all the seasons.

This it seems to be a great serie and l don't understand why we don't have it here, we never get to see some of Matthew's work in this continent and l hate that because he is a great actor and he do always works in great tv shows and movies, but we have to search somewhere else and it's a shame.

I was flipping through the channels and I saw 2 episodes. Since they are from BBC they don't show those shows here in America, but they were so great! I don't know much about it but it's sad to know that Tom is not on the show anymore, or should I say Matthew.

What i dont understand about the last series was Russia's role so much. For me the series failed to explain Russia's interest in Britain, what was that rubbish about them being an energy superpower? I cried like a little girl when Adam died, and I miss Zaf, when he beat up that guy with the baseball bat...it was just...perfection.

Russia *is* the energy superpower. It produces more natural gas than any other country, alternates between first and second in producing more oil than any other country.
It also has the second largest coal reserves. In case you haven't seen the news recently, there was a pretty big crisis a few weeks ago where they threatened to stop sending gas into Europe. If you live in Europe, there's a fair chance your electricity is provided by Russia.

I KNOW, but Russia seemed to be solely involved with Britain, what was rubbish was that it wasnt established well, as there was very little particpation from other countries. There was no global crisis that there should have been if Russia was to be cast as the 'big bad' of the series. It was mainly Russia and terrorists this series, whereas Yalta etc was global.

Does any one agree that spooks after the breakdown of characters in series 3. That spooks is downhill with bad acting from the two woman and the not so good music, copying the bourne theme (slightly) Not looking for negative talk here cause im a huge fan of spooks, own the first 3 on dvd. Just a shame TOM Whent and the rest, and then i just started to like adam and he goes lol

I dont think a programme like spooks can keep the same male leads forever, although its a shame to see Adam and Tom go more have come, i think this season of Spooks is the best for a few years.

I agree, and i have to say while i do miss Adam and Tom i think Lucas is going to be an intresting addition to the team. What i really like though is just as Adam was a very different charecter from Tom, Lucas is also a diffrent person.

its really good- MI5 tried to stop the broadcasting of this show because of its realism and close reality to 'real' life of security services as it was written with a previous employee of the security services.
(but gladly- in the end the bbc won over!!)

well actually- i read the interview when the shows second or third series aired- and it was with the creator of spooks david wolstencroft and another woman who had something to to with the writing and researching into the programme.
it wasnt as if MI5 came round to their houses adn nicked their manuscript but i recall both saying that a couple of government officials and other people enquired as to what the programme would include and to ensure that no really important info was used.

i hated the first few series when the young agents were still acting like it was some respectable proud service they were involved in. Its a friggin nightmare being involved with the security services. I hope toms character returns. Definitely my favourite actor.

Yeah, I liked it too when it was no PBS here somewhere. I think they are trying to force us to sign up for BBC US or BBC Canada for instance.
I'm just fed up with what channels I am subscribed for having nothing but repeats and crap to watch anyways.
I would've liked to see the SAS called in more often. Those guys are amazing.

the sas dont usally operate internally- i.e- in the uk.
the security servces have thier own special forces- (just MI5 officers in lots of armour!!!!!!)

This series of yours is really impressive, alot more believable than say "24" where you know the stars will never die. Great story-lines. Everything from Alquaeda, Dianna, gov't, military even environmental fiction(we hope).
You British put a more human face, faults, under-funding and all, on the issue. I applaud you for it.
I feel sorry for your Queen. Friend of mine in Intelligence says she has to read security briefs from numerous 'realm' countries each day. Conflict of interest? kudos.

I must admit, it is better than our "24".
It has a more 'real' feel to it, and sense of anticipation.
The heroes often die or burn out,
and the topics are often quite disturbing yet got me thinking.
Is it still being made?
How can we in America watch it?

Nah, I've served in Canada & I admit your Parliamentary system better. I guarantee you we'd have different Presidents if they had to stand up & talk for THEMSELVES weekly debate & not hide behind speech-writers & spokesmen who never answer questions asked.
If u look at a King as a permanent bureaucrat with limited powers to police the more bribeable politicians/civils servants, who can't just dump a legacy for the next gov't to inherit & wash their hands of it all, I like it. Live debates cool.

Traveling alot, I've found alot of British programming, serious and comedy I like better than some of our junk on TV anymore.

Although I'm Canadian, and Keifer Sutherland is star of "24", we like M15 infinitely more, but it isn't on our TV anymore for some reason.
In "24" you KNOW Keifer is never going to die.
M15 keeps you in real suspense and is more believable.
I wish they'd bring it back on TV here.
I do miss the original cast.
Any news when it might return to Canadian TV?

I wouldn't necessarily say that. The two-part opening to Series 5, for instance, was brilliantly written. It genuinely frightened me in parts because the idea of the UK being taken over in a legal coup is, to anyone familiar with the structure of the UK government, entirely plausible.

I believe that it leaves out a major stumbling block, the Crown.
I believe the Crown retains the right to reject even dismiss a government.
I think even the Realm Dominions like Canada, Australia, New Zealand & others have their militaries & civil service swear loyalty to the Crown before the sitting government?
So in a way, the Monarch could end a coup ironically similar to how the Japanese Emperor ordered troops who rebelled to even make him absolute ruler, to surrender themselves.

The power of the Crown is almost purely nominal. A Monarch hasn't dismissed a Prime Minister since 1834, or dismissed legislation since 1708. George V attempted to dissolve Parliament in 1910, following the battle over Asquith's 'People's Budget', but in the end it didn't happen.
Our armed forces may swear loyalty to the crown, but whether or not they would rise to defend the crown is purely a matter of how loyal they are..

Her power may be traditionally, but she does legally retain more power than you think. The monarch has the right to veto & pardon in any realm. Every Intelligence agency reports to her, she knows more than the Brit PM. She advises all her PMs.
Foreign diplomatic representatives in London are accredited to the Queen, & she has the power to conclude treaties, to declare war and to make peace, to recognise foreign states & governments and to annex & cede territory. Sure is legal issue. Here too.

Like I said, a load of this power is merely nominal. The UK retains many wacky laws which in theory could be very damaging but are never carried out?
Despite the death sentence being abolished for most crimes in 1964, it still remained for Treason until 1998. One legal definition of Treason (which still remains) is putting a postage stamp bearing the head of a British Monarch upside down!

I dunno, alot of us admire your system. Our 2 party system sure isn't working and this idea of always voting for the President from the opposite Party controlling the Congress/Senate gets us nowhere.
Your Queen/Royal Family are very popular around the world, & that's saying something coming from an American.
When I was stationed in England, I remember a corruption issue where the Queen 'convinced' some politicians & bureaucrats, usually untouchable, to resign. I like your Parliamentary system.

Don't envy our system though. While I doubt we will become a republic any time soon, there is severe pressure to reform our parliamentary system.
Many people here drool for the American system of a clear separation between executive, judiciary and legislature. It may be slower, but it's infinitely safer.

One thing Canada's Parliament really needs to change is the unelected Senate. It should be elected. They are a bunch of patronagees who usually just collect a pay-check, and terrible attendance record who only seem to rush to a majority when it comes to voting themselves pay raises.
That's another thing I'd like to see taken out of politician's hands, let us vote on their wage hikes or CUTS, not them ;).
But I do agree, our Parliamentary debate requiring our PM to answer directly is better.

OMG! Matthew is SO unbelievably HOT! Why the hell did they take MI-5 off BBC AMERICA? It IS such a good show! 24 is the closest we have to MI-5 in the US, even though its entertaining, it has very little emotion. The US is only good for comedy, movies, and Doctor shows but UK rules for MI-5 & Robin Hood.

I wish he hadn't left. The show has slowly but steadily gone downhill since then. There's no charisma or chemistry for the main characters anymore. They need to end the series before it becomes pitiful to watch.
