  • This is hilarious! Captain Beefheart is brilliant and as an avid fan I can still appreciate the humour in this haha! I just hope your not taking the piss, he's a real musical genius!

  • Funny thing is, this is about how he usually sounds. XD Only this is better than the original.

  • So great a thing.

  • yes I love admiral meefbart!

  • Playing out of time and out of key does not make you talented. I don't get it and never ever ever ever ever ever ever will or will give people like this and Henry Kaiser any credit. They are pure shit with 0 to be learned. Want experimental try Jimmy Herring Lifeboat serinade, Him and Greg Osby wrote they're own hybrid scales for the album and songs, harmonize and or play dead on top of each other LIVE the craziest guitar/horn leads I have heard.

  • @willeng84 you're aware this vid is a joke, right?

  • @MyMagician No man thanks for telling me. Saw a Henry Kaiser and Alexander Dumble vid while checking out Dumble demo's. Henry Kaiser is terrible but he said this group was a huge experimental influence so I figured I would check it out and this was the video I happened to pick first, needless to say I didn't watch anymore after this but I will check out more. Thanks for not just putting my on blast it was ignorance only. Blame Henry Kaiser.

  • @willeng84 first of all, its spelled SERENADE, not serinade you dumb fuck. Jimmy herring can suck my balls cause he is gayyyy like you. If you dont like captain beefheart then lemme ask you, WHY ARE YOU WATCHING HIS VIDEO YOU RETARD??? Go somewhere else because we dont want dumbasses like yourself wasting space on here with your ignorant comments. but im going to go ahead an assume that you probably have no job which is why you would watch videos you dont like right?? troll.

  • @JailhouseJody Do you always ask guys to suck your balls while calling them "gay" in the same sentence? I happen to like what I've heard of Beefheart's music, and clicked this because he interests me. I hate trolls too, but I can't find any defense for this particular song. Someone said it was a joke, and it must be because Beefheart was great (what I've heard of his; a film, one album, and some Zappa collaborations), and this sucks, regardless whose name is in the title.

  • @JailhouseJody Your an idiot dick, first off I heard about it from another musician as one of his big influences. When I here things like this from someone I consider to be a credible musician I check it out, this was the first thing I heard by them and was told afterwards this song was a joke but at the time I did not know that. Simply a mistake. But Jimmy herring is not gay, nor am I. However sounds live your a little lonely and looking for a fellow man fan to chill with.

  • @willeng84 The joke. You're missing it.

  • I have just started to get into these guys. They were so experimental and cutting edge before all of the technology that has come around to help us musicians. Did you catch this performance on your iPhone? It's not bad...wish I could have been to the show.

  • @melodicdreamer72 Yes, I bought an iPhone for some reason, fed it a pile of drugs and sent it back to 1975 to record The Old Grey Whistle Test, and this is what was on it when it came back through the wormhole. Amazed nobody else found this footage before me.

  • this is so much more betterful than the original!!

  • Brilliant. Sounds like Billy Connolly with a bad cold. Aye?

  • @bazonics haha very much like him

  • This is great!!

  • The bitch went fast, Wheee fast! Oh, she had wheels! XD

  • "Oh I'm dizzy" and it looks like he nearly falls off the stage! lol

  • Sounds like my local Guitar Center

  • "Banjo !..I hate that !!" XD

  • "I'm going to the shop.

    Cos I forgot,

    I threw everything away,

    But mostly the Twixes."

How true that is, even today.

  • Brilliant! How didja do it?

  • I think if Don was alive today, he would've gotten a kick out of this.

  • Hard to tell it's not genuine, excellent work!

  • Funny as hell! Big fan of the Captain and I think he would approve :)

  • ha ha ! big tick

  • Video response: see the original at /watch?v=dq6fCOGyVJg&feature=related

  • Did you dub a Snakefinger guitar solo over a drum machine?

  • That sir, made me poop my pants.

  • these guys are my fav band, but i gotta say this is brilliant, so funny! The lyrics are almost as good as the original, so weird!! almost sounds like something don would actually write! Thanks for sharing mate

  • @feldortheimpailer says the person who likes the cocteau twins.

  • This is what an Ozit bootleg sounds like.

  • The amazing thing is, this could actually be perfectly good Beefheart song. Or maybe Zappa :)

  • Trollolo

  • Fast and bulbous, baby!

  • Ooh she had wheels and was from Bingley!

    Wunderfool

  • I LIke the way he's got the drum machine clicking away in the back beat....

  • hahahaha had a good laugh.

  • wow. of all the shred vids I've seen, this one could almost pass for an actual song by the artist being spoofed. well done. I'm not sure its funny, tho I laughed, so I spoze it must be. it's almost not a spoof though.

  • the man was amazing he could sing in 5 differnt octaves rip don

  • this is fucking inspirational, much better lyrics than, say coldplay could write

seriously this is creative as fuck

  • You treat him like an ashtray heart! This rhytm section would have been fired before they even would start to play

  • RIP

  • Pretty much like his real music except his voice is much better.

Also, I could clearly hear your English accent when you sad "that" among other things.

  • Comment removed

  • wow, now I see where Tom Waits got his roots.

  • Thanks for the laugh.

    RIP, Don.

  • Brilliant! Can't think of a more fitting tribute.

  • I used to see The Captain at the Fillmore and Avalon Ballroom in San Francisco in the late 60's. His whole approach to music was to not take it so seriously, and have fun. Heck, and why not? It was such fun just dancing around the Ballroom listening to his music. My parents used to go to those ballrooms a generation before listening to Dorsey, Harry James etc; and The Captain was merely doing the same thing, in a different mindframe. He was original.

  • Thanks, Captain. May you find that clear spot.

  • @IYAMNI lol. I should have watched a minute before I posted. Good job on this.

  • Beef would be flattered.

  • lmao!!!!!!!

  • Never realised John Wark was this pissed off after Argentina

  • RIP indeed. White elephant escaped from the zoo with love.

  • the song pictured is "Upon the My Oh My" with an unpleasant sound recorded over it - I met they guy in 1970, took a trip to his house with my buddies, he was quite a marvelous host and he gave us a bunch of his paintings which my friends gave to me and now are worth about a hundred grand apiece, I left them taped to an apartment wall. He died yesterday.

  • Having never seen a 'shred' vid before (and cruising youtube's vids upon hearing the sad news) it took me over a minute to realise this wasn't actual Beefheart! (until I noticed the north Manchester accent!!)

Brilliant idea. The Who one hurt my face laughing!!!

  • rest in peace

  • @sheilapatrick1 don't take life so seriously. i'm a fan too, but it's still funny.

  • Hilarious.

  • Awesome! Love the voicing, and of course "shut up bitch and row!" Beefheart is one of the few bands whose songs actually sound like shreds to begin with, and I say this as a huge fan.

  • @TheTralfaz : Yeah, I think it's because the band is already ...

Well, I liked this one, though not as much as the original video. I do wonder if you showed this version to Van Vliet if he would notice that it's not the original.

  • Am I sick for finding this very funny?

I am a longstanding admirer of all things Beefheart, but do not find this in any way heretical. This period was not classic Beefheart, and was in fact disowned by the Captain himself. IMO this is a more entertaining song than the one they were actually performing on the video.

    SHUT UP BITCH AND FLY!!!!

  • Van Vliet was the LEAST of the Magic Band.

  • i love how people think this is the actual audio

  • I expected captain beefheart shreds to sound like normal music. huh.

  • this is the best "shreds" video hands down

  • Weee the Twixes flail in convert against a red banjo sky flibbity flobbity floo with socks on. You see, you don`t need acid to talk shit, I`m just drunk.

  • no see this just sounds like a slightly less talented version of the exact same thing

  • This one makes me laugh. The only other one is a shred with the Beatles, but even then, not as funny.

  • @PentlandBill I've walked the Pentlands a couple of times. On one memorable occasion I was lucky enough to see a rainbow from above.

  • @TheTralfaz This is a wonderful shred. Well in keeping with the Beefheart ethos. Continue on MyMagician, nice non-sequiturs. Hilarious in fact.

  • Captain Beefheart used to shred anyway! I mean any shred stuff can't be much more weird than Captain Beefheart's music :)

  • This is the only funny shred I've seen. You my man are a genius. You should find a church with a painted sign "Beware magic bands" and rent the hall. Play on.

  • @Longniddrie Are you by any chance THE Longniddrie of Longniddry fame ? You know, the incident at Longniddry a couple of years back, which took the world by surprise, with a mellow pie and a banjo . If I had been there, I would have been cheering you on ! Many people have forgotten the significance of that incident. If it wasn't because of your utter unselfishness, many of us wouldn't be here !!! Thanks Longniddrie.

  • good nightmare fuel!

  • This doesn't really differ much from the Trout Mask Replica stuff

  • he probably pointed a crossbow at all these musicians to get them to do this tune.

  • Haha, man this is great stuff. Thanks for creating this crazy stuff.

  • My oh my, shame on you....(but very funny!)

The great man has been unwell for some time now. I hope he recovers somewhat, a true legend.

  • i like how he claps at the beginning

  • It was a BBC series called The Old Grey Whistle Test.

  • And who said you couldn't mix drugs and alcohol?

  • Ah that was great. Good job.

  • love the subs!

  • he is the same guy !

  • @koaik No I'm not.

  • This is hysterically funny....and surprisingly catchy.

  • Captain Beefheart is amazing, and so is this.

  • Wonderfully sick interpretation of a brilliant musician. My jaw dropped at least 10 minutes before I figured out what this was.

  • This is hilarious - and i love the Captain! I don't think even your heroes should be immune to a bit of mickey-taking every now and then. Mind you, i think this is the best i've heard the 'Tragic Band' behind him - they were a last minute pick-up band that he had to get when his real band - The Magic Band - walked out on him. A shame because it's some of the best quality footage but it's this mediocre rock group... so this is great!

  • no I think this is normal Captain Beef - - or Residents maybe. Anyway how can you really tell?

  • are you the same guy who did FZ shreds?

  • Nope. Sadly.

  • @MyMagician You are so!

  • love this shit, sounds like billy connolly

  • Shut up, bitch, and row! Shut up, bitch, and fly!

  • Comment removed

  • YES YES YES YES

  • i hadn't the slightest clue who this was then i saw the actual video. you did a great job...i think i like this dude with your voice better than his own.

  • this shit rocks, almost shat my pants.

  • Thanks all for the comments. I'd say there's more shreds coming soon but I honestly can't promise anything. I'm unreliable like that.

  • @MyMagician if you do another i would recommend Camarillo Brillo/Muffin Man from the Baby Snakes movie,it would take a while but the guitar solo would give Frankie more shred time

  • @harrymanbach I didn't do any of the FZ shreds, and if I do another shred it won't be a guitar shred as there are far too many of them out there, and they're all basically the same. The only shreds I've done are this one, and my rather lame Sigur Ros one. That's it, people.

  • Shut up, bitch, and row.

I think I had a brain hemorrhage from laughing so much.

  • "I'm going to the shop!"

Thankyou so much, I haven't laughed this hard in a good while. More please...

  • Wow

  • geat & in a way respectful, love it :D

  • this will echo though time like bell made of shit . its fuckin great. if only the captin was that good. lol

  • Funniest thing I've seen in months, and a priceless introduction to the Captain's oeuvre! Pass it on to any Beefheart virgins, then they may be less alarmed by his er, other work. :D

  • Only just realised how much Don resembles Bernard Wrigley in this clip.

  • oawah lawudee I have swept my broom

    and left the roooom

THANKS! rarest of raw beef 'n egg

  • Brilliant!

  • help I can't breathe

  • If only the "Tragic Band" had actually been this inspired.

  • Yeah, I'd probably actually listen to this album if it was like this.

  • Seriously the best shred ever. Needs more views!

  • Comment removed

  • Oh My God!!! This is INSANELY funny! One of the best shreds I've seen. Keep up the great work!

  • Eee, ya dafty !

  • Wow!!! "Shut up bitch and row" will be my new catchphrase.

  • holyshit this is too funny

    "shut up bitch and fly"

    rofl

  • Sounds like Billy Connolly, very funny!
