  • Ha ha! "I was in a car crash it wasn't the war but I never been quite the same". Love that line lol

  • This song was originally released in 1979.... how fucking awesome is it releasing a song 5 years before the rest of the world catches up

  • Love this song dude, speacially played by my favorite band the foo´s

  • Nothing beats the orig.

  • I still say it's the best work Dave has ever done. Dave should go back to being a drum playing drifter and throw in the towel as a singer.

  • the tubular army was the original.gary numan was their front man, he sang cars

  • @kane3969 ...Tubeway army*

  • This is the best bit of work Dave's ever done.

  • wait, foo fighters didn't write this song...?

  • @SoftballPrincess47 nope, they did not.

  • @SoftballPrincess47 youre an idiot

  • @stides40 can you please explain to me how i'm an idiot? i didn't know that they didn't write this song. so don't fucking call me an idiot.

  • @SoftballPrincess47 at least youre not an asshole ey;)

  • @CHONGmorgans i don't understand what you mean.

  • Pizza

  • Thank you X-Files for introducing me to this version of the song.

  • The song is a cover of Gary Numans song. It is about the clone of a man who must have died. You can tell this from various times in the song, for instance. When he says "Down in the park with a friend called 5" the "friend" is called 5 because he is the fith clone of a person. Also "Down in the park where the machmen meet". A machman is a genetically modified human, or clone. So its not about war, its about a clone. lol sorry

  • @ThePsychoBeat

Hi mate, your analysis isn't quite right. Numan wrote sci-fi stories and scenes as a teenager. The society was a human / machine one, Orwellian in many ways; curfews and control. The machines were gradually removing the humans. 'Friends' were machines which would provide a service to humans - as Numan said, it may have been for sex or to play a game of chess... The Park was a killing ground, an arena. The privileged humans could watch the Machmen hunt humans deemed as criminals.

  • @UpTheShakers This song can be taken in many ways, weather he intended it to be like that or not. Gary Numan is a very intelligent man. I know that he wrote a story and in fact a lot of the replicas album was based on it. There are bits in the songs that are random and can spark different opinions of what this song is about. When it is all pieced together it all makes sense. I think that your take on this is very good. :) Though there still are bits in the song which signify clones.

  • @ThePsychoBeat

Aye, fair enough. I'm sure much of it was just chucked in because it fitted neatly, not because it meant anything. I don't recall reading anything about clones but what do I know?

I am sometimes disappointed when I read song lyrics after years of singing along in my car, and realising the words are not what I thought they were, or that they mean summat completely different. In those cases, I stick with whats in my head and carry on singing! Have a good un.

  • @ThePsychoBeat I have the same problem. Especially with Gary Numan. You too :)

  • He doesn't put the feeling of this song across the same way Gary does, vocal-wise. Gary just got of those voices that elevates a song like this, but Dave's voice here kind of flattens everything.

  • damn! finally a foo fighters song i like :D

  • If you have an open mind and a good rock band, you can do excellent covers like this. Congratulations!

  • I am in LOVE with Gary Numan and I think this is a fantastic cover! It's completely different, but still great.

  • The original is.. well the original, but i like this one more...

  • @jm357m Dont even try to troll. Go die

  • @MkDrknMonkey learn the definition of a troll. Having an opinion and trolling are not the same.

  • @daviddowns81 In Internet slang, a troll is someone who posts inflammatory[citation needed], extraneous, or off-topic messages in an online community, such as an online discussion forum, chat room, or blog, with the primary intent of provoking readers into an emotional response[2] or of otherwise disrupting normal on-topic discussion. Actually...an opinion is a form of trolling. M-m-m-m-m-m-m-m-moron

  • @MkDrknMonkey keep practicing. almost there.

  • Love the original, only just heard this recently, like the arrangement - top song through different eyes - makes me smile.

  • Really amazing...

  • Gary Numan is probably one of the top 10 most amazing musicians to ever exist.

  • I used to think this song was really weird, but then I listened to the part at 2:17 and I was blown away by the awesome-ness.

  • listened to the piano version of down in the park?numans a class act.

  • hmm, I prefer Mansons cover.

    This is suprisingly good though

  • The original is excellent, but since I prefer heavier music, I must say that this version kicks ass. It's so slick, and soulful, with an edge.

  • I know I'm gonna get rated down for this but I like all three versions of the song. (yes, including Manson's)

  • @dahbombman As do I. It's a great song. Of course Numan's is the best. But I love covers of my favourite songs, I find them so interesting unlike other idiots who moan and rant about how disgusting they are.

  • @Beatmyguest001 Couldn't agree with you more.

  • @dahbombman Its pretty hard to fuck up a tune this good.

  • @remaftp Ah well. I guess everyone has a right to their opinion.

  • @dahbombman Didn't mean that in a negative way. Was more or less agreeing with you.

  • @remaftp Oh. Well, my bad then. :)

  • @dahbombman Manson's was horrible. Foo's was great and well...Numan's...I don't need to explain it.

  • you gotta respect the original - Gary made it a great song, i prefer foos just from my taste

  • gary numans version is better

  • This is just as bad as the Manson cover. In the original you can actually clearly hear the notes of the melody, not just a wall of distorted power chords.

  • @BlindSoothsayer but its just a different way of doing it... whats the point covering a song if your trying to sound exactly like the orig.

  • original is best (obviously) this cover is ok. for once Manson is not so good

  • I prefer this version than the Gary Newman one. Sorry but that guy is weird.

  • @therunningman09 MJ is weird, Weird Al is...weird. do you not like him either

  • @counterclockwise123

Saying he is weird is not the same as saying I hate or dislike him, idiot.

  • @therunningman09 In your comment you state that you prefer this version over the original and the only reason you provide is that because Gary Numan is weird.

  • @counterclockwise123

Which, for the last time, does not mean I hate him or say he's a bad singer. I prefer FF over GN.

    Get lost. moron.

  • americans cant pull of gary numan or his songs! :)

  • @eloisesucks14 stfu dave is an alien. he does music in his way not no "american" pulling of songs. dumb ass ignorant turd

  • Gary Numan !

  • GREAT SONG

  • two of my favourite Musicians in one Gary Numan and the foofighters , i have goose bumps!!!!!

  • @jimdean1955 U GOT THAT RITE.....THE FOOS AND NUMAN..GREAT COMMENT

  • @OneBlackRose45 thanks One Black Rose 45 !

  • youre crazy for thinking that dave isnt a good lead singer. he definately does at background vocals and lead.

  • awesome song.

  • I dont know about you guys, but i swear the first time I heard this song i thought Ozzy Osbrone was singing. Just Epic the way Dave is singing it.

  • i know i must sound like a fool but i only knew of manson doing a version foo fighter =also fuckin rad!!!!!!!!

  • My favorite version of this song. They give the song it's proper epicness. Numan's version is good, but the minimalism makes the song seem directionless.

  • best version of this song,Foo Fighters are always great n this cover is amazin.. soo chill

  • This cover's music is great but it's let down by the very ordinary singing.

  • @riskwriting yep i agree, dave is a good background singer but not suited to lead vocals

  • I hate foo fighters. I love numan and manson tho. But i must admit, this is a very good cover

  • @Bahaga78

Same here, not a big fan of Foo Fighters, and Marilyn Manson was hoax, but this is a good cover of a great song.

  • Out of all the covers this is the best. I love Manson but man the Foo killed this track. To be honest IMO I think it's better than Numan.

  • I like Marilyn Manson's Down In The Park better :s

  • i listen to this and think about enslaving the human race

  • @ck2590 7 is that you?

  • @bigrussthefusss yes it is I, you must be 4 from zom zom's?

  • @ck2590 7 you are incorrect, it is Tom Toms, Your Rues will not go unnoticed. For this you must be disposed of. I have already contacted central, they have sent 61 and 97 to seek you out!

  • @bigrussthefusss you are mistaken, I was using the Gary Numan historical rendition of events rather than the Foo Fighters fictional account

  • @ck2590 MALFUNCTION!!! MALFUNCTION!!! MALFUNCTION!!! Just when I was .... beginning.... to.... loooovvvveeee... :::Shutsdown:::

  • one helluva cover!

  • I love this frikin' song! It's so catchy!

  • Foo Fighters meet Gary Numan with a lyrical injection from William S. Burroughs. Craziness!

  • a much better cover than manson

  • Thanks for posting! This was a great album to get high too!

  • great Cover :)

  • 0foofighter0 -- you have this displayed as track 16.... from the Foo 2nd album? I thought it was an out-take Grohl recorded by himself in England and was used as a "b" side...... I have the Colour and the Shape, and this is not on it.....

  • @beelzabubba There's a fifteenth anniversary release of the colour and the shape, with 6 extra tracks, down in the park, requiem, drive me wild, colour and the shape and another i think. :)

  • @KRocK198901 -- thanks for the update.... shit, 15 years already..... I remember when that album came out like it was yesterday. I guess time does really fly when you're having fun. :D

  • @KRocK198901 15th anniversary? The Colour and the Shape came out in '97, they're is no possible way they're could be a 15th anniversary release

  • @SoKrItIcAl i meant 10th xD

  • @beelzabubba you are correct I dont have it on my album either. It was a b-side track

  • @beelzabubba Its on the expanded version. On the original release Requiem, Baker Street, Down in the Park, Drive Me Wild, Dear Lover, and The Colour and the Shape were left out but the album was re-released with those songs.

  • manson´s version is better is the original

  • @XxMyGodogxX gary numan is the original

  • numans is better but i like this version a lot

  • they are both fantastic, but nobody can top numans

  • one of my favorite Foo Fighters tunes.

  • Are friends electric and piano version of this is also great .

  • ok cover, but Numans is better. 5 plz use the rape machine on me.

  • better than the mm cover at least. at least it sounds like the same song lol. the melody is there.

  • You misspelled "better."

  • this version kicks ass!

  • Cool!

  • Comment removed

  • you call them retards, you can't even spell you stupid fuck

  • @JonasIsAwesome124 Fuck you. From Me and all the little bitches sucking your cock foo fighters kick ass you little fuckface inbreed...........BITCH!

  • @JonasIsAwesome124: the Jonas brothers have no talent. My proof they have to be in tv shows to pay off their crap cuz the band thing didnt work out. But other then that The Foo Fighters are still way more amazing the the Jonas Brothers and the Jonas Brothers are the retards trying to start a band with no skills

  • @JonasIsAwesome124 shutup bitch!

  • @JonasIsAwesome124 wow what is good then? barney songs? yeah thats what i thought. FOO FIGHTERS ROCK, and everyone with a brain knows it.

  • @JonasSucksDick Foo Fighters Rock.

  • @JonasIsAwesome124 The jonas brothers have zero talent, i bet you anyone who picks up an instrument for the first time and practices for an hour every day will have more talent than those fags will have in a year.

  • @johnnykadkad but thats just wrong. Foo's are my favourite band, and i dont like Jonas bros at all - i havent even listened to one of their songs all the way through...

but your wrong - they do HAVE talent - wether you like it or not they do

  • hahahaa jonas thats gotta be a joke, ur pretending to enjoy todays terrible music right? right? plz tell me your joking!

  • lol jonas i looked at ur channel, thats a good joke man hahahahahahahaha

  • Hmmm, they did well with this cover (Gary Numan and the Tubeway Army - 1979)

  • foo fighters grunge style almost

  • Good cover.

  • I adore this :)

  • what the hell is a puff?

anyway, that's an interesting story. IF that is true, i wouldn't be so surprised, i always thought grohl was a bit effeminate in nirvana ;)

  • Fukin epic

  • Marilyn Manson's version is way better

  • hardly...

  • the only reason marilyn manson is famous is because he can blow himself. he has no good songs and his entire career has been based on image.

  • Was dave grohl gay at one time?

  • no he is not gay

  • He did some gay stuffs last ema, he's awesome anyway

  • what do you mean "last ema"?

  • where did you hear he was gay?

  • theawakener7 said he was gay

  • WTF? seriously? no comparison to the original and the MM version, AT ALL ...

  • I dunno but I think I may hate you for what you said man... Gary Numan made the original

  • ya seriously cant we all just calm down????

  • Why do ppl tend to compare so much any cover? The purpose of a cover is not to sound better or beat the original, is to do a tribute to an awesome song.

  • A very respectable cover, they do it justice but you cannot beat Gary Numan, the original and still the best. MM can go fuck himself, he's shit

  • Agreed, MM sucks.

  • @gamblinsw i think this is better then gary numans, just as i think hendrix all along the watchtowers was better than dylans, numan and dylans was empty but had so much potential! I really think this is their best song!

  • @gamblinsw just because you don't like MM does not mean he is shit....if MM was such shit, then why would GARY NUMAN HIMSELF invite him to come on stage and sing this song with him....you fail

  • @gamblinsw I had no idea this was a Gary Numan song and Im 39! I love his original, you're right!!!

  • @gamblinsw I am sure Manson has already done that=)

  • @gamblinsw hey dont talk shit bout Manson, his version sound heavier and he gave it a spike but its definatly not shit dude

  • @gamblinsw lol. All three are shit

  • Wow this sounds so rad! I love Gary Numan/Tubeway Army...they do it justice!

  • I do prefer the origianl by Gary Numan, but I've got to say that this version by the Foo Fighters is quite impressive :)

  • Marilyn Manson is the definition of a fag. Foo Fighters should never be insulted and be in the same sentence

  • I prefer this version to MM's .. But that's my opinion :)

I quite like Gary Numan's original version but you just can't fault the Foos !

  • this version is not bad, but i still preffer the MMs version

  • I think this version is the best, the gary newman version i just dont like. if the androgynous look and sound is ur thing then you'll disagree

  • Gary Numan original version is the best , but if i have to say, I prefer foo fighters version much more than the MM one....

  • His voice doesnt go with this song, Marilyn voice goes good with this song, but Gary's voice goes GREAT with this song(and guitar to).

  • This is a pretty twisted song. Good though

  • gray numans origanal version is the best out the lot ;)

  • Ya... I disagree. Listen to it right after this one, and if you still think it's better, then it's because you want to get into Manson's pants ;P

  • no it's not.

  • Well, you know what they say about opinions. I'm not saying this is a bad cover, Manson just added more of his own twist to his version and I prefer that kind of creative edge.

  • Fucking Flying Objects, FuFO, FOO, FUBAR Fighters, it's all just military lingo wether it was wwII or Vietnam doesn't matter i like this song and i'm glad the Foo Fighters covered it because it brings a new meaning to the song for me

  • a foo fighter was what fighter pilots called UFOs in the vietnam conflict. neither side would claim them as their own and it's a mystery to this day.

  • they were also in world war II
