Posted a video response. Machine is a single knife folder. In video it is running parallel, but in 90 degrees will run up to 20,000 / hr in 19"x25" sheets.
I noted the lack of soundproofing and did point it out to my employer, however earplugs are supplied and in Australia this might be enough. A older knife folder like this cannot be as quiet as a newer folder that uses buckle plates alone anyway.
Knife folders aren't knife folders because of their age, they're needed for different applications, they're still being made today, & are being sold along with buckle folders.
I guess I did not word it quite right, the point I am making is that ok a new buckle folder or new knife folder will definetly emit less noise than the model I run. in anycase most modern buckle folders can achieve most folds that a dual knife folder can albeit larger footprint with added stations ie: T52 and above.
The folder in the video is a dual knife with 5buckle plates I have ran this machine for almost 2 years now A4 to Dl/8-16pp sections by the thousands it could use more maintainance however, it is still very reliable.
I guess I've been spoiled by my former employers' & their equipment over the years. I rarely had to use the knife attachment, unless I was folding 4 or more thicknesses. The last Stahl I ran had 3 right angles & the knife. Is yours old enough to have the automatic greasers on the rollers?
Many machines, especially older machines manufactured when effects of loud noise where not known, did not come with certain protections that are now standard and required by law.
There is no way of adding these soundproofs. Just like antique cars that do not come with seatbelts. It has got nothing to do with lack of respect or care for personal safety.
Newer machines, do have the safety features, and are engineered with lower sound levels, and safety in mind.
@vrsscom g'day mate. have you got any tips on how to stop 6pp roll folds from snagging the corners on the inside fold? always have a nightmare with this.
@jimmydigital Naturaly request the printer texta marks the lay corner for you so when you guillotine your rego should be precise from the get go. Adjust roller pressure and be sure your in-feed is dead accurate and the 1st fold (plate1)is dead square. If after all of the above has failed set a fraction deeper on plate3 depending on stock type some do not like the inside fold 2 tight regardless of all other settings Hope this helps.
@vrsscom thanks. luckily it's only a certain type of stock that always dog-ears on the inside. often i'll run 400,000 6pp leaflets without seeing one, which makes it really frustrating. only really just starting to properly understand roller-pressures and how to set them. was a muller/heidelberg st. operator until last year.
why's it running so slow???
