  • where is the harris footage from , i thought he died

  • @Smallwitz I used clips from the first two movies, and dubbed my own voice over them.

  • Firstly I want say both, Sir Richard and sir Michael, are good actors!! but Richard was exactly how Dumbledore lived in my mind! He was just the perfect Dumbledore!! Michael was good on a other way..in the books they say that Dumbledore is exentric, well I think Michale Gambon play that part very good that Dumbledore has to be exentric. But Richard Harris was the perfect Dumbledore forever. R.I.P Richard Harris. I think Michale Gambon was maybe a good Aberforth also..

  • Ok I have to post another comment because this brought tears to my eyes haha this is so fantastic!

  • I miss Mr Harris so much <3 what a fantastic actor

  • kachukeland you should have replaced Richard Harris instead of Gambon

  • dude this is touching!! :) how did u get richard harris voice??

  • @13LuciusArchangel that's my voice, doing an impression. Thanks, bud :)

  • @Kachukeland are FUCKING serious??? dude thats amazing!!! i actually thouight it was richard harris!!! keep it up its awesome!! u should do again but with the speech from happiness in goblet of fire or from the half blood prince where he talks about tom riddle to the skool!! :)

  • I definitely think Harris would have done a much better Dumbledore, had he lived (god, I sound so insensitive), but this particular clip wasn't so good; the tone in his voice sounded like bad acting to me, a little too unemotional.

  • @Skywalker91 well, I'm not really an actor, lol. I was focusing on the impression. I suppose I should have worked on the actual performance.

  • Listening to this speach in Richard Harri's voice brought tears to my eyes, thanks for making this video and May your soul be with God Sir Richard Harris you were the best Dumbledore end of story.

  • @joeymerlino1967 wow, I'm really glad you liked it. Thanks for commenting. ;)

  • @Kachukeland Can you please re-do all of Gambon's movies with a Richard Harris voice? Harris was an infinitely better Dumbledore - and your voice mock-up showcases that well.

  • @joeymerlino1967 HAHAHA, I wish we could replace Gambon with Harris.. Maybe with CGI and a professional voice actor

  • I just want to point out that, at 1:05, THAT is how I imagined Viktor Krum when I read the books.

  • This speech made me cry! It was so good R.IP Richard Harris

  • You did a very good impression of Richard Harris. Thank You.

  • Richard Harris WAS Dumbledore. Gambon sucked to me.

  • Gambon was never Dumbledore-ish - but he came very close in the Half-Blood Prince. Richard Harris was much closer, but unfortunately he was very old and frail when he acted as Dumbledore. If he was ten years younger he would have had the energy of the book-Dumbledore as well as the look.

  • people blame david yates not gambon because if colombus continued to direct he would have ask gambon to do the same performance as harris both harris & gambon are great dumbeldores gambon doing better as the great and powerful dumbeldore and harris is the better mentor figure dumbeldore

  • i like michael gambon better

  • Gambon blew it for me when he SHOOK Harry in GOF when asking him about the Cup. The Dumbledore in the book only gives him a very piercing stare, as he often does, and it's (obviously, after reading OOTP and HBP) because he's an incredibly accomplished Legilimens. (ie Harry often mentions the feeling of being x-rayed) He loves his students and he doesn't NEED to manhandle them, he can tell exactly what they're thinking by other means. Dreadful interpretation, all of the movies are total shit.

  • I am sure that Gambon is a good actor and a nice man in his own right, but I HATED his interpretation of Dumbledore. Dumbledore's entire character is all about how he is so calm and composed all the time, so loving and that his temper only flared when it counted (ie when the Dementors come to the Quidditch match in POA, when he finds out in GOF that Moody is an imposter, when Harry et al. are at the Ministry in OOTP. Gambon's version is too angry.

  • I prefer Gambon over Harris. Both were great in their roles and I often wonder what Harris would be like in the films if he hadnt died but still Gambon was a great addition to the films, He took Dumbledore and he made him his own in a good way.

  • I liked both dumbledores til the 5th movie, he was sooo aggressive & angry and always seemed to like screaming O_O

and his looks changed, I didn't like that AT ALL...

kinda looked like a fresh Gandalf or sth.

  • Harris by far

  • I however approve Gambon's portrayal of Dumbledore in OOTP, HBP, DH 2

  • @gemgem92 but he just isn't the character described in the book.

  • I love this review..Well done :):):)!!! I agree that Michael Gambon's portrayal of Dumbledore in GOF was apalling, due to the director telling Gambon to shout and express his anger, which I just can't understand. Many Harry Potter characters state that Gambon was one of the better actors Wtf!?

  • Richard Harris was the original Dumbledore, he portrayed JK's character perfectly, whereas Michael Gambon WAS very good, he adapted Dumbledore beyond recognition and made him angry and loud - that's not the Dumbledore I grew up with..

  • @OZZl3 you got one from me! lol

  • @OZZl3 It would be a good idea, like a special edition, including a change in Flitwick and Voldemort too.

  • I like Gambon's Dumbledore. Richard Harris may have been an excellent actor, but his Headmaster was way too friendly, meek and kind of gaga. I couldn't imagine him dueling Neville Longbottom, let alone Voldemort! Gambon's character was a bit too brash and vocal, but that's something you'd expect from someone who is more or less responsible for the fate of the world. He seems so reliable, like someone you would like to have as your protector.

  • I simply stare at people in shock when they tell me they don't realize that the actors for Dumbledore changed. I'm just like, "How can you /not/ notice?!" I really think Richard Harris did such a good job. He portrayed Dumbledore the way I pictured him. :) <3

  • I'm re-reading Goblet of Fire at the moment and I loved the bit in the Great Hall where Dumbledore mentions a joke he came across during the summer about a hag, a troll and a leprechaun going into a bar (until McGonagall clears her throat loudly) - you just couldn't imagine Gambon's Dumbledore mentioning something like that.

Dumbledore says this in response to Fred Weasley shouting 'You're JOKING!' Gambon's DD would have shouted in rage because at him.

  • Splendid job! I do however think you sound like Ralph Fiennes aka Voldemort here, somewhat, haha. I wish Harris had lived to be Dumbledore in all of the movies :( when I read the books, I hear Harris' voice in my head, when Dumbledore speaks.

  • oh man that was excellent.. Now can you do it with the entire Harry Potter franchise? aww shit that'd be awesome :) lmao

  • IMO Harris wins hands down. After reading the books and watching the movies through again, Gambon came off as kind of a disappointment. Dumbledore, I think, is much more soft spoken and reserved then Gambon portrayed him.

  • There is no way comparing harris and gambon, but these are facts: gambon's 'powerfull' voice fits perfectly in 'action' scenes, while Harris' 'calm' voice would have fit perfectly in every scene where he talked to Harry or when speeching...

  • To me, Richard Harris is the PERFECT Dumbledore. He came across as wise, mysterious, and caring/compassionate. Gambon came across as angry, bitter, and it seemed like he could care less about Harry and the other students of Hogwarts. Harris is how I always pictured Dumbledore in the books. Maybe he was too old to do some fight scenes, but they could have used stunt doubles in place of him. It's a shame he died before he could go on to be in the other six Potter films. R.I.P. Richard Harris.

  • Who was speaking as Harris? He died before the filming of this movie, didn't he?

  • @tfdmgurl yes, harris died after the second film. This is my voice speaking, and shots of Harris from the first two films.

  • @Kachukeland O.O OH MY GOODNESS! You sound very accurate. Great job! I bow to your awesome abilities.

  • @tfdmgurl lol, thanks. Please, there is no need to bow.

  • @Kachukeland --very well done kind sir. u nailed the difference between the two. very funny too. gambon was way wrong for the part. too loud and forceful with no paternal warmth. they should have hired u to play albus. eagerly awaiting part 2.

  • @dansig123 thanks, bud. Actually, my Dumbledore Reviews (part 1 and part 2) are both uploaded already. I made this video in between them, just for fun. Check them out, if you want. :)

  • At the end of the day, I will always prefer Harris. He's exactly how I pictured Dumbledore when I first read the books, and is how I picture Dumbledore when I reread the books now. But, that doesn't take away from the great job Gambon did in POA and HBP. Although, you can't really compare them. After the second film, the tone got much darker. Both actors did the job they were meant too, and played the character as he should've been at the time. But Harris (RIP) will always be my Dumbledore!

  • I prefer Gambon as Dumbledore. His voice is fantastic, he is far more agile and probably had far more ability to move around when acting in the ministry scene. However Harris maybe fitted with the written character more due to the fact Dumbledore being an old English word for Bumblebee (rowling thought of Dumbledore humming... like a bee). YET, Gambon has those rich tones in his voice. Overall, I much prefer Gambon as Dumbledore.

  • @alexspencer1994

btw how do you know that Harris couldn't move around in a fight... he didn't have to in the first 2 films.

Also, there wasn't much moving for Dumbledore in the ministry fight.

  • Oh, give him a break...

  • Richard Harris was an amazing actor, and he really fit as the role of Dumbledore. It could be argued that Harris was more accurate to the Dumbledore of the books, but in the end, I like Michael Gambons portrayal more. While Harris brings mystery to the role, Gambon really shows the power of Dumbledore, which was fitting asthe story becomes darker through the films.

  • @MrQueenie I don't get "powerful" from Gambon, I just get "grumpy." Harris's calm and soft nature in contrast to the powerful magic he can do would make him seem VERY powerful. It's like Mr. Miyagi in Karate Kid, he's old, quiet, gentle, smiles, laughs, ect. But he leaped over a fence and beat the sh** out of 5 guys at once, and karate chopped off the tops of several beer bottles. That contrast is what made Miyagi seem powerful. If he'd been a grumpy old man, it wouldn't have worked that way.

  • This is why I never bothered to watch this movie, even though Goblet of Fire was my favorite book. Lord, that was... kinda awkward :P

  • whats the music in the background?

  • @samantttha During the Harris scene, I used Nicholas Hooper's "The Sacking Of Trelawney" from the Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix soundtrack.

  • @Kachukeland Thx alot

  • Richard attenborough would have been the best Dumbledore, alas they choose gamban.

  • Gambon's accent was created in the deepest pits of hell sent to ruin the magic of Harry Potter.

  • Comment removed

  • People seem to ignore that recasting the role was unavoidable. Taking a role and making it your own is challenging. He did a great job- he used different character traits. Considering Dumbledore's past, I think Gambon was perceptive- he hinted at what he was once like. He doesn't have Harris' presence but he makes Dumbledore seem more rounded. Both portrayals have grounds in the books. I think the perfect Dumbledore would be a cross between them ^^

RIP Richard Harris! You introduced the magic :)

  • @O1ivette well, Dumbledore didn't HAVE that past when Gambon was doing this scene. The 7th book didn't come out until after the 5th movie. So, as far as Gambon and the filmmakers were concerned, they didn't care how inaccurate Dumbledore was.

  • @Kachukeland That's why I said he was perceptive, not accurate. In hindsight his portrayal fits Dumbledore's past and Rowling probably knew that ^^ I like Harris much better in some circumstances, but I think Gambon really nails the sort of disconcerting side of Dumbledore.

  • @O1ivette And I'm saying no one knew anything about Dumbledore's past, not even Rowling. No one gets credit for being perceptive. Lucky, perhaps, but not perceptive. On top of that, NOTHING about Dumbledore's past would indicate that he'd grab Harry by the shoulders and start yelling and shaking.

  • @Kachukeland I don't quite get how Rowling couldn't know Dumbledore's past! Maybe there was an element of luck but I didn't find it jarring. This is a man who wanted to dominate Muggles, who had 'triumph' in his eyes when Harry said Voldemort could touch him, who was very scary when angry. Don't get me wrong, I loved Harris. Maybe Gambon overdid the intensity, but it sort of balanced out for me, as they left those traits out of the script.

Also - if you did the Harris voiceover, it's AMAZING ^^

  • @O1ivette thanks, i did do the Harris voice, lol. Well, I'm not a fan of the 7th book, as you may know. So, I tend to disagree with Rowling on Dumbledore's past. A bold statement, I know, but as a long time fan, I felt Rowling did a huge disservice to her universe in book 7. She just made stuff up, broke her own rules, and her established characters frequently behaved out-of-character. So, that's why I said "no one knew anything about Dumbledore's past, not even Rowling."

  • @Kachukeland Well, you did a great job :D Wow, that is bold indeed!! I think Dumbledore's past really added to his character. I think a perfect, fatherly, selfless role-model headmaster would have been too simplistic for such a rich series. There were a few OOC moments throughout the series, but there are so many details! The important part is the magic that stays with people. Whatever his character, 'Dumbledore' is a familiar name in speech. Not many 21st-century characters can claim that ^^

  • @Kachukeland Since she planned all 7 seven books before she wrote a single one, I sincerely doubt that that she "didn't know about Dumbledore's past".

  • @Gubbywubby she had boxes full of notes. That's right, boxes full of random pieces of paper, sticky notes, napkins, ect. Her ideas went in many directions, with many outcomes. And her disorganization was very apparent in book 7, when she tried to resolve the story she'd created over the years. So, I stand by my statement: No one knew anything about Dumbledore's past, not even Rowling. Still, there is no excuse for how inaccurate Gambon's Dumbledore is.

  • @Kachukeland Disagree agree about Rowling and the 7th book, but definitely agree about Gambon,

  • @O1ivette Completely disagree. Richard Harris was a far better Dumbledore. Way more accurate to the books. He had a father like presence in the books and I felt none of that from Michael Gambon. It doesn't matter how the character is portrayed by the actor when the book specifically has character traits to follow. It is selfish of the actor to do such a thing because there are so many fans of the book. I do agree that recasting was inevitable BUT they did a horrible job recasting.

  • @shogun996 I did love Harris as Dumbledore, he probably would have been amazing in later films. But Harry said often that he didn't see Dumbledore as an old man and I get that idea more from Gambon than from Harris. I always found Dumbledore a bit disconcerting, condescending and manipulative. Rowling could have said if Gambon was totally off. This is a bit weird but I think the main problem is the changed costume! It distanced the two actors before they started; the recasting was change enough.

  • @O1ivette Yeah the costume was dumb! They didn't even try! haha I got used used to Michael Gambon but I always felt panic when he spoke. Though, Richard Harris BARELY even wanted to do the first Harry Potter but he did. I can't see him committing to 7 movies. I wonder if he signed anything saying he would or if he did it from movie to movie. Either way looking back I couldnt see him doing that many movies anyway but I just know that there could have been a better Dumbledore.

  • @shogun996 That knot in the beard! They got rid of it for the later ones though XD. Richard Harris was persuaded by his granddaughter to take the role, and apparently he asked the producers not to recast it for the 3rd film, even though he was ill - but he passed away before he could do it :(

  • So the Harris one is not real, and the Gambon one is...well, the Harris mock up one is WAY WAY better!!! The way he speaks is so much better, his voice, inflection, everything...

  • Comment removed

  • @jorgelink that's not "all that matters." Robert DeNiro, Adam Sandler, and Tom Hanks are great actors, but they would all make TERRIBLE Dumbledores. It wouldn't matter how strong their acting is.

  • I feel assured that most of the people in the comments agree with me in that Richard Harris was the better Dumbledore.

  • @GuyWithBluePoop He was much better by light years.

  • I've found Gambon's acting too aggressive, to the point where he highly resembles Gandalf (I have to say, looks almost like a Gandalf copy at the astronomy tower scene). Harris' on the other hand was the collective Dumbledore written in the books. Then again, I find it hard to picture Harris in a duel with Voldemort at the ministry, as well as casting rings of fire to fend off the inferi.

  • @DiabolicHeart like the book describes, Dumbledore handled Voldemort very easily without moving very quickly. He was fluent, deliberate, and efficient. I think Harris would have pulled it off perfectly. He looks even more powerful when a gentle flick of the wrist puts Voldemort on high defense.

  • how did u do that speech? who is actually speaking

  • I really think Richard Harris was always the better Dumbledore because he really makes it seem like Dumbledore is 150 and he's more like he's described in the books.

  • i like and respect michael gambon as a person and actor but his portrayal of dumbledore was just so wrong (i think he's said before that he finds it hard to act as other people) whereas richard harris nailed the character so perfectly (imagine how heartbreaking dumbledore's death would have been had harris still been in the role)

  • @jhibbitt1 I know! I didn't care about Dumbledore's death when it was Gambon. I was just watching some grumpy old man die. If it had been Harris (aka, the real Dumbledore) i would have been in tears!

  • Harris: Alas...earwax! Gambon: DIDJOO PUTTYER NAMEIN THE @@@kingGOBLETAFIRE HARRY!!!?

  • @copperhike9801 lol, can you imagine Gambon delivering the earwax line?

"I was most unfortunate in my youth to have come across a vomit flavored bean. But perhaps..." Dumbledore said, as he put the bean in his mouth. He chewed a few times, then stopped suddenly. His gaze slowly moves to Harry. "You..." Dumbledore began, "you... little... SH**!" Dumbledore grabbed Harry by the shoulders and shook him violently, "You put the earwax bean in the bag, DIDN'T YOU!?"

    "No, sir!" Harry pleaded.

  • @Kachukeland Oh mah God that made my day!! LOL

  • @Kachukeland I can't begin to tell you how much I laughed at that. Probably because how easy it is to picture Gambondore doing it.

  • they're both brilliant British actors.richard harris,i think brought the dumbledore in the book in his way but michael gambon showed a different version of dumbledore w/c i think is not that bad.

  • @uncommoname just letting you know both actors are irish not english

  • @mickyh79 ok!i didn't mention they're english.

  • Gambon's thoughts made me laugh!

  • Both played the role very well.

  • Comment removed

  • how did u do that ? how can u make Harris's version

  • @gyzard I mixed clips of Richard Harris from previous movies, and did the voice myself. :)

  • I think Gambon is better than Harris, Harris was also kind and he alwys smiles, but in Harry Potter and the Dezthly Halloes part 2 Harry find out that Dumbledore is a crule headmaster who intrested in power. And Gambon's Dumbledore can be Evil, but Harris' is always kind Dumbledore. :D

  • @makristof Troll Alert! Troll Alert!

    Don't feed the troll!

  • @Blasthood lol, good call, good call...

  • Um WTF are you just stupid or trying to be funny Dumbledore was never evil nor bad yeah he wasnt a perfect guy but he still kept harry safe most of his life until half blood prince when he had to go it alone but by that time harry was old enough to undestand it was his job to keep on fighting and Richard harris WAS and always Will be the best Dumbedlore because he looked like the Character acted like it and gambon was far too angry far to fast he didnt wear his half moon glasses half the time.

  • Gambon acted more like Gandalf and Harris acted more like Dumbledore.

  • Who did the speech for the "Harris" version? It was fantastic and so well done!

  • @Kachekuckland hahahaha histerical... Not. Just a true fan of his and overly excited yet upset for friday 15th July!!! AAAAAHHHHHH...

  • @Kachekuckland or whatever it is!!! What is your massive grudge against gambon??! I don't think he became a knight for the fun of things do you???! I agree he does over do it In the fourth one but I doubt Richard Harris could have done all the things gambon does in the later films??! You've got to see both sides of the situation!!!! Gambon is amazing and if you don't like him don't watch Harry potter and go watch Robert pattinson in twilight or is he not quite right for you either???

  • @mhick60 wait... Gambon, is that you?!

  • @mhick60 you have obviously never read the books. Harris= Dumbledore as portrayed in the books.

Gambon = Dumbledore he made up by applying his own personality to twist that of Dumbledore's.

  • Harris > Gambon

  • I love the thoughts of gambon inbetween his sentences haha

  • Richard Harris was who I imagine when I was reading the books, before the movies ever came out. Dumbledore is suppose to have this calm energy about him. He does not have to be overly loud or strong because, what I got from the books anyway, he has an almost aura of magic about him. They are both good actor but I thought Harris embodied Dumbledore better. Gambon is decent but he's not the character in the books, which is important to me.

  • Richard Harris woulda failed at the action scenes in Harry Potter. Michael Gambon rules!

  • Hahahahaha. Richard Harris forever.<3

  • LOL, you know what would be fucking awesome, Richard Harris's Dumbledore vs Voldemort in HP: 5, I mean I can see it now.

    *Dumbledore comes out of chimney*

    Dumbledore: "Hey Tom..."

*Voldemort shits his pants and thinks, (Oh shit it's fucking Richard Harris)*

    Dumbledore: "Bye."

*green curse hits Voldemort, he bites the dust and J.K. Rowling has to rewrite the 6th and 7th books*

  • @bachilles009 lol, awesome

  • The issue I have with Gambon's portrayal is that he mentioned countless times that he didn't read the books. I am not one of those persons who expects every detail of the books to be transferred without a change to the big screen, but when you make eight movies (or six, in Gambon's cas) out of seven volumes of a series you NEED to develop a feeling for such a complex character and this is simply not possible with the pure dialogue that's left in a movie script.

  • His acting of this dialogue is fine, but it's completely out of character compared to how Rowling let Dumbledore say these lines. On the other hand Gambon brought the physical presence and strength to the character that I doubt Harris would have been able to convey in the later movies due to his health and age. Harris had the wisdom, warmth and kindness that make or break Dumbledore and Gabon has the physical presence to convey his power. Combine both and you got the perfect Dumbledore.

  • @Daniel1705

In my opinion Gabon totally killed Dumbledore's charakter. He totally misinterpreted his role and for me his whole play is an offense to the "real" Dumbledore EVEN in the fighting scences. My interpretation of D. was that he had a really elgant way to fight without even one wasted move during a battle, to give the feel of might just by him remaining calm without showing stress or fear.

I would even say he's the opposit of the Dumbledore created by Joanne.

  • @Daniel1705 Agreed (although, Gambon played Dumbledore in movies 3, 4, 5, and 6. Also, he makes a very small appearance in 7part 1 and should also show up in 7part 2.

  • @Daniel1705 Gambon HAS read the books. If you watch interviews of him, he says stuff like that all the time just to keep things interesting. He once told someone that was interviewing him that he was gay, but had to give it up because it made his eyes water. I think he said he was a member of the royal ballet once. I don't know why he would deny reading the books, but he definitely has.

  • @Daniel1705 well dumbldor is not supossed a fun loving grandpa figure, hes a wizard who wanted power which is showen in the 7th movie with his younger self stealing the elder wond, and again with his brother saying he wanted power. so if yuo think he needs more sympathy for cedric or needs to develop a "feeling" for his character then thatr fine, but for me growing up with these movies and seeing the difference with the two actors, i think gambon is better

  • @Daniel1705 I agree. It was very selfish of him to have not read them. People keep saying, "He made it his own." It's not his to make any other way. The book has the character lined out. When millions of fans see the movie they expect to have a Dumbledore accurate to the books. Richard Harris did an amazing job at doing that. Michael Gambon was selfish and whomever casted him is an idiot.

  • @Daniel1705 I am 100% with you on that. That just seems unprofessional to me! Surely as an actor you would try to find out as much as possible about your character so you could play him well! Also, surely playing a character for so long you would at least get curious about how he was written!

  • @Daniel1705 Apparently this is not as it seems, Gambon regularly "mixes things up" in interviews, likes to fool around with the interviewer. He said he "hasn't" read any of them, when apparently he has done. It rings true when he joked in a dead pan way, "have to play anyone really. I just stick on a beard and play me, so it's no great feat. I never ease into a role—every part I play is just a variant of my own personality. I'm not really a character actor at all...". Just putting that out there

  • @Daniel1705 Yeah okay...Harris never read the books either. :\ And Gambon's performances in PoA and HBP are the closest to book-Dumbledore you'll find. The complaints over his performance in GoF are so blown out of proportion too. He made Dumbledore more human, imo, more flawed. Which is exactly the kind of Dumbledore we discover in Deathly Hallows. Gambon owned Dumbledore. And since when did reading books help an actor, all an actor needs is a screenplay, that should always be enough.

  • you cant compare the two actors because they are both extremley talented but potray dumbledore complety different!! that doesnt make either of them a bad actor!! and you have no idea how richard harris would have said that speech because dumbledore changes as a person throughout the books and maybe harris would have too!! leave michael gambon alone he is absolutley amazing

  • @mhick60 I never said Gambon was a bad actor, I just don't like his portrayal of Dumbledore.

Dumbledore doesn't change throughout the books, we only learn more about him. And book 7 doesn't count for two reasons: Dumbledore is dead, and only exists in paintings and Harry's head. And, book 7 was aweful, and changed a LOT of rules...

  • Michael Gambon was good but Richard Harris was the best!

  • Michael Gambon is better tbf :/

  • I think it's difficult... Both Harris and Gambon have brought something accurate to Dumbledore. Harris, had this joyful but also wise portrayal of Dumbledore, and that happiness is something Gambon could never reach (except maybe in P. of Akkaban). On the other hand, Gambon has this aura of power that makes him, the wizard that Voldemort feared so much. And I think, that was missing in Harris' performance, or maybe we just hadn't seen it yet... I love both, they're great, in their own way.

  • I think some of the things people blame Gambon for are the director's fault, if you see Gambon's other work you can tell he could easily manage the same character that Harris did.

  • @eateroftheflame I think you're quite right on that! I truly hated Gambon's performance in Goblet of fire. So much yelling, so much anger which doesn't fit him at all. At that point I though that Gambonscrewed everything up. But I loved the Happy Dumbledore in Prisonner of Azkaban that Alfonso Cuarón created. I honestly think, that it's the director's fault in Goblet of fire. When David Yates came to the series, he became also closer to the "calm" Dumbledore! :)

  • I think i like more Michael Gambon. He is just so good! I like him very much.

But Richard Harris was good too.

  • I think i like more Michael Gambon. He is just so good!

  • Gambon is terrible as Dumbledore, Harris was amazing and was better and was an exact match to the book Dumbledore. End of story!

  • man...even after all this time i still miss Richard Harris as the first dumbledore, he had a more...."grandfatherly" feeling everytime i watch Harry potter 1 and 2

im not saying Gambon is a bad dumbledore, is just i prefered Harris more...or maybe thats just nostalgia controlling me...

  • After the Harriss style speech, it feels so sad to see Gambon's speech. I think he did a great job as Dumbledore in Prisoner Of Azkaban, but he's so angry or out of it in the other films.

  • Basically to me they both play it for the age the books were targeted at. Harris was more of the one kids can imagine and sort of an Alec Guinness style one as the kindly sage one, Gambon played him as he became for the older generations as the more commanding and serious one. Both are great, though I always liked the scenes with Harris a bit more. Even when talking about such serious matters he still keeps a level head and enjoys life to the fullest and had a light side which stuck with me.

  • For me, Michael Gambon is a great actor, better than Harris.

  • Truth is for those who haven't read the books, the movies makes no sense. Chris Columbus was the best director so far. He really pulled it through.

As for those stupid comments I read on the top, there is no sensible person who have read the books that prefers the movies. No movie will ever be good enough to beat the books. But they could have done a much better Dumbledore. I hate the new intense and angry Dumbledore. Gambon would only be good as Aberforth. Truth.

  • If you watch the extras of the third film you'll see Gambon saying that he was going to play Dumbledore as he himself understood him in the books. Alfonso Quaron agreed on that, and just let him do it. He literally ruined the series. He could have found a good Dumbledore or at least made him look more like the ORIGINAL. But what is there to expect from Alfonso Quaron? The third movie was the HORRIBLE. After the third film they just kept cutting off all the important stuff. BOO you Quaron!

  • @MrsLovegee Many people do actually think that Prisonner of Azkaban is one of the bests! You should know however, that It was indeed Alfonso Cuarón tahta accepted that Dumbledore was played by Gambon as he though of him, and that was good!!! Gambon was really awesome as Dumbledore in the third mmovie! He was wise and powerfull and still joyful, it's in Goblet of Fire that everything went wrong in my opinion...

  • @EVERYONE, The movies talk about the debilitating power of fear, which causes normal people to do weird things, the devastation of jealousy, the need for unity in fighting a foe, and the power of love and friendship that wins over evil.

  • Have to agree, the Harry Potter movies are much better than the books.

Whatever people say,it is very tough to convert a 700 page book to a 3 hour film and the harry potter series has done it amazingly!! That's the reason I like the Harry Potter films better than the books. Some people may disagree, some may agree, but, for me,THE MOVIES KICK THE BOOKS' BUTT!!

  • Richard Harris was by far the best.....Gambon is nice replacement...but still...a replacement...

  • harris fit the part better because he was nicer and more calm, this other guy yells 24/7 and he has a more evil side for the part

  • Yes,even though Harris was closer to the Dumbledore, gambon is better because Gambon fits perfectly in fight scenes and stuff like that

I think gambon was the perfect replacement for Richard Harris

And as for Harris,He'll never be gone,Not until those who remain loyal to him

And those who are not happy with gambon, think he too dark, for them-

happiness can be found, even in the darkest of times, only if one remembers to turn on the lights

P.S-THE MOVIES ARE MUCH BETTER THAN THE BOOKS!!

  • @yoyoyo9009 psh... the books kick the movies' butts

  • @Kachukeland r u crazy?!?!

the movies teach us so many things!!

the movies are much better man!

i respect ur opinion,i have read all the books, seen all the movies, and personally,i find the movies much much better than the books!

btw, thats not what matters, what truly matters is that harry potter is the best!!

PS-THE MOVIES ARE STILL MUCH BETTER!

  • @yoyoyo9009 in my opinion, the only movie that was better than the book was Deathly Hallows (part 1 so far) and that's only because the movie had to keep the action flowing. Same stuff happens, just without having to read all the nonsense between the action.

And without Richard Harris, there is no Dumbledore. There's a character in the movies that they CALL Dumbledore, but he's not, he's some other character. And without Dumbledore, it really doesn't feel like a Harry Potter story.

  • @Kachukeland I totally respect ur opinion, but in my case,i found all the movies better than the books(my personal opinion!)

and i REALLY liked gambons potrayal of Dumbledore

and the best movie, obviously is deathly hallows followed by half blood prince(personal opinion again!!)

so,anyway, thanks for the amazing video(a bit sarcastic for gambon too :P)!!

  • @Kachukeland All that nonsense between the action isn't nonsense.

  • @shrikechan sure it is.

  • Harris portrayal of dumbledore was really boring. Someone said he portrayed as in the books. Well I have read the book a thousand times("Only joking. But you get it") and I see no match between him and harris's character. Book itself explains dumbledore to be angry and afraid at a lot of instances. The way he says "Well being me has its previlages" in HP 6 movie creeps me out and I would laugh if it was Harris who said that.

  • @elenm1 The book never describes Dumbledore as "angry" or "afraid." In the books, if Dumbledore ever expressed either of these emotions, it was very subtle, usually with a distracted facial expression (the only exception would be the moments before he was killed) As for Harris saying "being me has it's privileges," do you remember when Harris said, "Help will always be given to those who... (stern, yet loving look at invisible Harry and Ron) ...ask for it." I wish Harris could have live on...

  • @Kachukeland "Stay where you are, Harry!' For the first time, Dumbledore sounded frightened" HP 5

"Dumbledore's sick worried" Hagrid HP 6

"Dumbledore is angry with snape" Hagrid HP 6

The look upon Dumbledores face as he stared down at the unconscious form of Mad-Eye Moody

was more terrible than Harry could have ever imagined. There

was cold fury in every line of the ancient face" HP 4

"Help will"...... is good and cool. But I dunno. I like Gambon more. Maybe it depends on people.

  • @yoyoyo9009 you kidding?

i'ts hard to believe that you read books.

  • @92stefanovic yeah,i have read all of them u third person!

    u know what,for me,its the movies,but that doesnt matter!

the movies are done brilliantly! they show us the basic plot, and thats the concept of them!!

the thing that matters is-we both belong to the harry potter universe!

harry potter for life(Movies or Books Whatever!)

our aim is to show the twilight assholes that we are much better,in both, movies and books!!

I like the movies better, its your choice aagey!

    aur bahenchod jaa marja jaake!

  • @yoyoyo9009 you have all my respect

    harry potter for life,dude.

  • @92stefanovic Exactly bro. Harry Potter for life. Thats the main reason Twilight fans are considered more hardcore fans, cause they dont fight amongst themselves! for them, its not movie book-its twilight, and thats where we lag!!

    Best book series-Harry potter books

    Best Movie series-Harry Potter movies

    Like if you agree

  • @yoyoyo9009 You're insane. The last movie wouldn't even make sense to someone who hadn't read the book. There were way too many gaps and important things switched around for it to make sense without already knowing the order of events. And there is SO much more about the backstories of major characters and tons of extra things in the books that you don't get from the movies.
