  • and you're balding. prolly from the stress in med school!

  • I know this is sort of irrelevant, but you're really cute! I really hope that medical school will be as interesting as you make it sound lol

  • Hi what did u major in before med.school

  • is medical school at a VERY fast pace? I want to go to medical school but your really scaring me with the 4 hours of sleep stuff :o

  • My first year of med schooooolllll :)

  • this guy is smart as hell. not only is he focused on advising others when it comes to his day to day life, but you better believe hes using this to reflect on what hes been learning.... this guys a genius...

  • WAT SCHOOL DOESHE GO TO???

  • @wooball7 Hahha, let me guess also ... for the money?

  • @wooball7 Well, because its because I want to help people with acne. I suffered from it during my teen years and it was the worst! So now that it has gone away, I want to help people take better care of their skin so that they everyone can feel "beautiful" or something.

But the second reason why is of course, THE MONEY!!!!! HAHAHHA.

  • I thinking about going for Dermatology. That's 12 years in total.

Wow. It sure is long as hell. So do I go to A university that offers med programs, then transfer to a med school??

  • @P3RSONALANG3L Thanks for your advice. and yes a back-up plan is always nice. I already got my backup plan. and good luck to you and your future ^^

  • do you have to do presentation? i dont like presentation

  • I failed 2nd year so here's some advice:

    1. If you study 14hrs per day you either

    a)have learning issues

b)your school wants you to know more (several reasons)

c)you may deeply reject knowledge over pathology and human pain in general

d)you have called Boston's radio on 9/11/2001 to express that it was an inside job as cameras started filming the 1 st plane quite earlier and Logan's security that allowed several terrorists inside the plane was never interrogated . That changes ur grades..

  • Thankyou so much for posting this, and your many other videos!

They are so imformative, and motivating. Hopefully I'll be where you are in a few years.

  • Do you do a lot of biochem in med school?

  • 3rd Year Medical School. Going Postal On Campus.

  • i adore your videos, you're so sweet to share all this with us!!! keep it on!

  • not to be out of the blue but your really cute ... some asian guys i've met aren't cute at all or even close but ... wow your cute d(^.^)b

  • hi I'm I thinking about becoming an anesthesiologist and I was just wondering if you had any tips or comments in the position or the schooling or other things

  • was it hard to get into medical school?

  • Which med school do you go to?

  • @ja50gurl911

    he goes to harvard

  • i'm torn between med and engeneering..and i'm almost 1 year 'till grad

    what shall i dooo :(

ive been thinking of going to the usa for school..but i don't know if i can cope with learning in english.. Is it hard to learn abstract things in english if your first language isn;t english? if someone could share their experience..that would be great!

  • @alexhighflyer You learn so many new words in medical school that it's basically a new language to everyone, English speaking students included. So don't let the language barrier stop you from doing what you want!

  • wow really... im in high chol and for my ap bio i study about 2-3 hours... hmmm not bad at all.. i hear some peole do 7 hours-10 hourse a day... but with breakes..

  • i study more than that as a premed

  • 4 to 5 hours is normal.

  • hi, i noticed u said u do rotation at MGH etc do u mind me asking what school your in right now?

  • i had a prob following your finger...shit im fucked!

  • I'm also a second-year medical student , and it's very hard, I agree..... I'm afraid of my exams, but a I try to study hard, but the hardest thing is to save your time....

  • what med school do you go to?

  • Why is everyone arguing about nonsensical shit? This dude is taking time to give us an idea of his experience in medical school. I applaud you man. I'm really looking into medical school. I'm a sophomore at a university, and I study 4-5 hours a day for all of my classes. I would expect to study that amount or even more in medical school. Please keep posting videos about your journey.

  • How do you look so energetic with the amout of work and lack of sleep you get lol

  • Him studying a lot is great

YOU DON'T WANT A STUPID DOCTOR TREATING YOU

  • @zaps1 JUST LIKE THERE IS GOOD DOCTORS THERE IS BAD DOCTORS... THERE ARE CASES WHERE DOCTORS HAVE EVEN GONE CRAZY, CAUSE OF TOO MUCH STRESS, STUDYING DAY AND NIGHT...

  • @SHYBONER lol i don't know where your stats come from, but i think that a doctor gets a lot more stress at his job than from studying. Then, what kind of doctor would study day and night? As far as i know, the biggest part of studyingis done in med school. Are you talking about the residents? (who technically a doctors, since they have an M.D. degree)?

  • holy shit 4-5 hours a DAY

  • Harvard Med School? In order to get accepted in to Harvard Med, Do you have to go to Harvard?? But damn, you must have worked hard to get there. I agree with everyone, I would BRAG, bc its takes hard work and dedication and it pays off when you get into the BEST SCHOOL!!!

  • @TheRealMuna you don't have to go to Harvard to get into Harvard Med

  • exactly what i was looking for.

  • @dlo000000o3a1

hahaha ahhhh, that cracked me up. Actually, 1st year is a cake walk. Second year is hellish. 3rd year is nice, and 4th year is great. That said, 2nd year isn't "hard" it's just "a lot".

  • i just fineshed fist year and i almost lost my mind !

i've heard second year is much easier

  • is it true for the first 2 years the grades are pass/fail?

  • whoo0o0e Neuroscience! that's my major right now as an undergrad , but I plan on going to medical school to study pathology.

  • wanna be my friend : ]

  • hey to all the med students out there ;)

Med school isn't tough, i think if your capable of retaining whats learnt in the lectures, self studying becomes easy ... Its better when you have a passion for it. <

    Good luck all.

  • @LaPentaDeca THANK YOU!

  • @LaPentaDeca hey, did you go to medical school? im just curious as to if you have to do any public speaking? i have a fear and anxiety of it and i just wana know if it will happen throughout university until my career as a doctor(ihope) thankyou!

  • Sorry, I think Harvard (if that is where you go) does not apply to the rest of the country. You guys are probably told exactly what is going to be on the test, thus no need to study more than 2.5 hours. That would not surprise me at all. For the rest of your viewers, trust me, two and a half and even five hours/day is not enough! You study much much more! Cheers!

  • i have never slept more than during 3rd and 4th year of my Med school year. Sorry, totally disagree with you. Same with hours for studying: 2.5 hours a day? What??? I think Harvard must cut the curriculum by half. All my colleagues and I studied all day long, many times until middle of the night, getting 5 hours of sleep at most during the first 2 years.

  • @Galanin22 everyone has different study habits. it doesn't matter how long you study, it's what you get out of it. maybe jeff is just a whole lot smarter than you and your friends. that would explain why he's at harvard med.

  • i find your videos very helpful, i'm between deciding what career to chose nurse practitioner or a neonatologist. if you have any advice please tell me it would help.

  • itchychinaman ur saaad thats jst sadd. i got a few friends that r asian or chinese ut mostly maori but still thats jst racist. this guy is actully proud of wat he does and i dont blame him.... it would take me about 1million yrs to get to harvard med

  • @RebekkaMc Why would it take so long to get into that college lol ? sorry I live in venezuela so i just want to know!

  • that proves it that all asian people are smart so good for you. i wish i went there but first im only 12 and second my brother already goes there so im probally not gnna be alloud to go cause to expensive for me probally

  • You can still pay for it youreself

  • Being a legacy is always a plus. But since your twelve, try not to worry about how expensive school will be when you're around...24-25.

  • your bro can help pay for you, or at least loan you

  • holy crap he goes to harvard med

  • Very enlightening! Thank you.

  • Hello mdinresidency1 The only reason you defend him and attack me is because you identify with him. You perceive he has made similar career/ education decisions as you so therefor he must be like you. How very shallow and EGO driven of you. You attack me personally, but say nothing of my argument. What's wrong with Disney movies anyway? Your ignorance (ask a smart friend to explain to you what a 'tag' is) , mean spiritedness and lack of logic do not belong in the practice of medicine.

  • @itchychinaman wtf is wrong is wrong with you dude. stop writing novels on youtube!!

  • Hello mdinresidency1 Harvard is one of his tags. Do you know what a 'tag' is? It is a key word that others can use to find content on the web. I cant believe you dont know that. What else do you not know? You attack me personally, but not my argument that learned behavior from authoritarian cultures has no place in the Western world and especially in medicine. (You have hurt my feelings).

  • Don't rag on this guy. Good for him for studying this much. Maybe he'll cure cancer someday.

  • @shoney cure cancer..he's in med school not doin research so....

  • you need to study for med schoo so any one who doesn't is an idiot...

  • Your favorite movies are "anything Disney" and you repair shoes for a living. This young man in the video is furthering his education by going to medical school. Not once did he say he attended Harvard, but it was an ignorant prick like you, to assume that he did and with that, to also assume that he is driven by ego.

Sounds like you're jealous to me.

  • Maybe Half the worlds suicide are in china because there's 1.3 billion people theree!! and not to mention the common under adequate living.

  • that is true to a point ..most of my asian friends care for brands and 'image' wayy too much, even if it disturbs their bank or family. But If I was going to harvard med I would brag! It takes a lot of work to get there! You should be proud.

  • My god u r so dam smart. I hope to be a Doctor someday as well hope i can be like you.

  • what kind of brain condition do you have?

  • Comment removed

  • geat vid I hope and pray I will be in your footsteps in a couple of years!!!

  • @cricketnithin me to....hopefully!

  • step 1 is easy. Study is not the answer. Take a year off and go get married. You'll come back more concentrated.

  • thats nice advice, can you elaborate please

  • Allstock-that's great that you are top-ranked in your class. Congrats; however, it makes me a bit sad to hear that you spend so much time studying. As a medical student, I know how important it is to have a balance between academics and a social life. I definitely don't think it's necessary to study that much and succeed. I probably study 2-4 hours a day (much more of course in the days directly preceding an exam). So to you pre-meds out there-don't get discouraged-it's manageable!

  • how old are you?

  • I pull about 60-70 hours a week. I'm ranked top 5 in my class.

  • lol

"trying to keep the balance"= cramming Sunday night for the next day's exam.

  • do you have to register for classes, or is your schedule given to you?

  • u say u could study like 4 hour hours a day....is the studying hard and do u feel stressed out? also how much free time do u get each day away from classes and studying?

  • Jeff....you are so darn Handsome!

  • abkalawende

  • hahs. you are so charming! youre' gonna be a GREAT doctor! :)

  • this dude's cool he jus says everything st8 up and happy . He rocks my socks jeje:)

  • Where you able to have a job with all of this crazy schedule of morning classes and afternoons? Do you think that someone that needs to work could keep a balance with medical school?

  • get loans

  • I guess that's the way to go haha xD thanks.

I am in pre-clinicals or pre-med first year and it's heck of a load of work! haha

And well, I am not in Harvard, but what we use to call it here, San Harvard (Saint Harvard in spanish). It is for very sarcastic reasons, but for another is that USAC(Universidad de San Carlos de Guatemala | University of St. Carlos of Guatemala) was of the first founded universities in the american continent along with Harvard. To be exact in 31st January 1676.

  • is their a good way to study when your in medical school and for your mcats? I am a softmore in college and I want to prepare my self while I am still in undergad school

  • @missy123432 softmore? hahahahahah

  • you are so mean and heart less!!

  • @missy123432 well I think you would have to check prerequesits on what credits you need to have in order to apply for med school. You can do different sorts of Bachelor Degrees but it is recommended to go into Pre-Med....

  • these videos are great and so inspiring to see many people pursuing a career in medicine. God bless you all guys on ur endeavros and i hope to one day have the initials M.D. behind my name as well.....

  • What are the advantages of studying medicine in the USA compared to the UK?

  • You are my hero! I've been considering going to medical school for many years now, but you've def. pointed me in the right direction, I'm enrolling as soon as I can. Thank you!

  • looks like david archulleta

  • yeah....only better looking

  • hey jeff ur awesum but i was wondering where you go to med school?

  • I believe he goes to Harvard, I'm not so sure but he tagged Harvard curriculum

  • I am a medical student from germany and our curriculum is way different than yours. but it is really interesting to see how medicine is taught in different countries :)

  • sleeping six to eight hours?! wow that's pretty much compared to how many hours I sleep and I'm a sophomore in high school. I sleep about 4 hours/night.

  • I am a sophomore in hs and i sleep btwn 5-7 hours a day.

  • I'm also a sophomore in high school, (what a coincidence?) I'm in Texas, btw. Anyways, i would like to say, i sleep about 6-7 hours a day. don't ya'll think med school is so damn hard. it's kinda discouraging when people keep saying it's hard.

  • everyone of my friends keep saying that too. it is kinda discouraging but i chose not to listen to most of their rants =P. i'm in high school last year and from fall i'll be a student ^^. can't wait.

  • you still need to go thru undergrad

  • Well, medical school can be challenging, but eventually as you grow up, you'll become more aware of the discipline and responsabilities you must take as an adult. But anybody can actually reach the point where one is able to handle it. I am not in medical school yet, but I can tell you that friends that I know, sleep 5 hours a day, and they are just playing the PS2s and nintendos. Also, I don't always get my 8 hours of sleep, and it's just cuz I stay up late doing non-productive stuff.

  • if sleep is the prob.. you'll learn not to after the 1st sem... :)

  • Hi Jeff, 1st off your videos are incredibly insightful and we appreciate you taking time out of your busy schedule to make these videos.

I had on quick question refering to the book(s) you used for Pharmacology. I have Brenner & Katzung, but was wondering what book your school recommend just as a comparison, & also which (if any) review books for the course you found helpful in preparing for the Boards

Thanks again Jeff for all your time!!!!

    - VN

2nd year Medical Student (Just started)

    = D

  • Hi, you seem like a very nice person and you genuinely look like you're interested in medicine

  • Could some one help me? I am planning on attending to medical school. I am currently a senior in high school. I was wondering: If I go to a Community College for two years, will this hurt my chances of getting admitted into medical school? will it look bad on my resume?

  • yes try going to harvard

  • Well, first of all: to get into medical school, you have to have a B.a wich is 4 years of study at a university. THEN you can apply to a medical school

  • Are you positive? So that means I can't do 2 years at a community college and 2 years at a University? Because I thought you could get your B.a if you did 2 years at CC and 2 year at university

  • Yeah, u can go 2 yr comm college, and 2 yr. university. and for teh question "will it look bad on my resume", just score high on the mcat. have a good interview, and good carruculars.

  • Really, the school doesn't matter. Maybe for Harvard, but not for most schools. Just as long as you get good grades in college and MCAT.

  • Jeff, thanks for posting this video. I am a B to B+ student, but I absolutely have to get to medical school...and I want to know what kind of college student were you? Thanks,

    Zack

  • If you hope to be competitive in medical school you will need to try to be an A or A- student. What year are you in college? Also, prepare for the MCAT and see how you do.

  • Yale Center for British Art began about ten years ago using Art Galleries. Now many more do it. What is your experience with this???

  • how come the studying is so small? Maybe in med school you do more Hands on things? Because I am in high school and I study twice or 3 times as much as that daily.

  • University does not compare to highschool. Do you honestly think that highschool would require more studying than medical school? There are so many reasons why it is harder, but I don't have enough words to say them all. Not to mention, I highly doubt you do 7.5-15 hours of homework a day :S Clearly you just have no concept of how much you really study. Sorry bud, you don't have it as bad as you think you do (in fact you have it very easy, enjoy it)

  • Lol you mean "I think so at least"? You don't understand that the college lifestyle is what makes it much more difficult. Your course material isn't nicely handed to you anymore, you have to find out a lot of the info yourself. Not to mention your schedule, HS classes are in a compact time, giving you all night to do homework. In Uni you can have a class that starts at 9am, and the same day one that starts at 9pm. It's very tiring compared to HS. You cannot understand until you experience it.

  • Well @ least I hope you understand that. Just realize that it's not as easy as you think it is, regardless if your taking one, two, or three university courses. I just hate it when younger people think they have it really difficult, because they are completely deluded.

  • I took AP classes and college classes when I was in HS too, and no I didn't study nearly as much as you claim to. If you honestly NEED to study as much as you are now, college is gonna be a rough transition. Try to pay more attention in your classes so that you don't need to study so much outside of them.

  • I've heard plenty of comments like that in my college years. Including things like, if I studied a little more, I would probably have a 4.0 -- coming from people with 2.7 gpa's, so saying you can get the same gpa by studying less doesn't say much to me. Don't say you can do it, just do it. I understand you're a smart kid, but I'm just saying there's a difference between HS and college. I was cocky in HS too, and I got my ass kicked when I got here. Don't do the same thing.

  • actually college is not that hard, if you did well in high school, college should be a piece of cake because the first two years are like a review but with more details.I took 13 hours during the summer and made all As. and in the fall semester, I took 21 hours of college classes and made all As. And I also have 8 hours of AP. Right now I have 42 hours with a 4.0 GPA.

In conclusion: the first two years of college are easy, but then junior and senior year and challenging.

  • lol really depends on your school

  • i'm guessing you just have amazing time management skills and excellent retention to study so little. i'm an junior at yale in mechanical engineering, and i study a little less than that (but do an insane amount of homework which makes up for it). I only get about 5 hours of sleep a night. Either med school is easier than I thought, or you're just pretty damn smart. But whatever the case, good job, and good luck man. I'm applying to HMS, but my first choice is Hopkins.

  • hey man ... doing a good job .. its very helpful for me ... when r u posting ur next video?????? i am waiting for it soooooooo lonnnnnnnnnnnnnnngg!!!!!

  • I find this video very helpful:) my boyfriend is in med school so now i Know what he's going through!

  • ohh so this was it this is what made u know what he is going through a 10 minute video

  • Is it much debate in the US about the costs of medschool? It is crazy that it costs so much money to study.

In Sweden (and Denmark, Norway...)the education is free, the only thing the student have to pay is a place to live, food and books.

  • is it surgery part really hard?? cuz my goal is to become an surgeon.. but ur saying that surgeon only sleeps about 2 hours or less

  • THIS IS GREAT I AM FROM BRASIL AND I GOT TO SEE ALL OF YOUR VIDEOS THEY WERE REALLY INTERSTING NOT A LOT of Brazilians know about how medical school is What school are you going to anyway? Is it Harvard?

  • first, i was wondering if you can switch you career after med school. by this i mean becoming a different doctor. say you are a pediatrician and you want to become a radiologist. would you have to do a new residency and then you would have a new career path or is it harder then that? second, how is your third year of med school going? is it hard to study and work (do your rotations) at the same time? how are you paying off your med school? did you ever work while in med school?

  • i like your video's!!!!

  • when you dont have the time to spend the money you earned.what's the point of earning it in the first place? charity boy?

  • in pharmacy school that i go to you have to study 6-7 hours a day!

  • very good information :)

I study that much for IB, so I will be good. Thank You for this video!

  • holy crap 4 to 5 hours of studying that's insane

  • With all the sleep you're getting, no wonder you seem so chipper and well-rested. You must have excellent time-management skills.

  • 6 to 8 hours of sleep for a first-year medical students?

I don't think I got that much sleep each night during high school!

  • during which grade, were you the most busy?

    and the lest busy?

  • junior yr is probably the busiest.

  • keep it up, don't mind the negative foolish posts

  • Thank you for taking the time to make this video diary. I enjoyed watching it.

    Best,

    Ali

  • your videos are great, good job. Im looking forward to your third year video, IF you find any time at all to make one haha.

  • don't bother wasting your time sending this sucka a message, he just gon read and delete it

  • you white folks sure have a history of being racist, if you are so "smart" like you say, how come you have problem with something as simple as another race. since you brought it there, most of you not all are racist cowards, who talk at a distance, i never herd a white man saying racist shit in my face, im not mad i know fear runs in your veins hahahaahahahahaha pussy, its ashame you raise your kids that way, teaching them to hate other human beings, im not gon go back and fourth with cowards

  • The only type of maths that is used in medicine is pretty much statistical analysis.

And sometimes...basic calculus...but maths is important none the less...

  • hi..do u have to have a BS in Bio to take McaT? or any BS degree? can BSN- BS in nursing do the trick? plssssssssssssss let me know..coz im thinking of trying the MCAT.

  • You don't need to have a bachelors to take the MCAT but you do need one to enter med school.Any bachelors will do, even a BA. You also need to have taken the prerequisite courses to prepare for the MCAT. These are General Biology, General Chemistry, Organic Chemistry and Physics (each are 1 year courses). Medical schools apparently like diversity in their student body so you don't necessarily need a bachelors in the sciences. Any bachelors will do. A nursing degree is valuable experience.

  • You sitting here talking shit about chinks....one day, that chink may save your life. maybe your family member. life has a funny way of turning tables around. So keep on with the chink insults.

  • what happened to ur hair it looks like you're balding as compared to 1st year. i just got accepted into med school and you're scaring me.. =\
