I love this - I play this song in a band every week and Ciara's version has really made me smile this morning, brilliant. Can't imagine how proud you must be

I'm slightly disturbed by a four year old girl singing about binge-drinking, sleeping with prostitutes and 'men who had the horn' and, yes, I know she sings 'the horns' but that's nit-picking. I know she doesn't understand what it's about (well, I presume she doesn't!) but it's just somehow wrong. Great choice of band but dubious choice of song.
@weirdunclebob We better not let her listen to any of the top 40 singles then either. Miley Cirus is far worse influence than this. As she grows up, she's now 7, she'll work out what it all means in her own time.
And by the way, where do the prostitues come into it? Are you refering to Sally Mac? If so, you're way off. Sally Maclennane was a type of beer.
@djcolm Fair point. I seem to recall singing many a song with gusto when I was young without realising what they were about! Heh heh. Thanks for enlightening me, too. I never knew Sally MacLennane was a stout! Damn, now I want some >.<
Okay, delete the 'somehow wrong' and the 'dubious choice of song' bits and insert 'really cute' and 'awesome'! lol
@djcolm Hear, hear! Frankly, if I had the courage to have children, I would more like them to listen to the Pogues or quite a few "pub" singers than most top 40 stuff, as well. At least then, my young ones would learn about genuine friendship, melancholy, and other subtle emotions that *aren't* angst or other teenage tripe. Not to mention PROPER examples of melody, harmony and rhythm in music...
@djcolm It has been suggested this song is about a male prostitute. Jimmy played the harmonica of the men who had the horn and left happy in the morning.
Brilliance, I think Dad would be soo Proud and Mom thinking, why is`nt she into Westlife n other crap boybands, go on ma wee lass Brilliant, Dads taught ya well!
Jeeesus, I adore yir Dad, tae have his daughter singing this is Wonderful, good man, absolutely brilliant ma wee darling, you stick in there, your good
yessss finnaly some1 who can sing and listen to good old irish music good on u little one and dad for producing an all time classic. btw im only 18 and this irish music is close to my heart
So cute and absolutly lovely! My seven year old daughter loves to sing Fairytale of New York with her daddy. I wonder if Shane knows how much some kids love his songs. You should try and post this to his website.
Very cute puppet, but I'm sorry you've got it all wrong. You see, I can actually understand the lyrics when you sing them. Shoot for incomprehensibility to master this particular genre.
now that's how a kid should be! a proper legend right there
