@DavidakaChronic, I always thought that-if given the right material-Sammo Heung and Steven Seagal would make a great buddy martial arts movie fighting off younger, ripped guys and thus breaking your typical hollywood or asian cinematic cliches. Maybe I say this because I'm a larger fighter myself but I'd like to see them both do a movie together and have one last great hurrah before they're too big/too old :)
@DavidakaChronic, Oh totally, I was thinking something along the lines of PistoL Whipped or even..well, I got several ideas. I thought maybe something more existential like redbelt might be good. Or even a really well done version of Bunraku (the Josh Hartnet movie just released). I had a crazy thought. I was thinking that John Cusack would also be perfect as a third, younger partner who they both trained and helps out. He has some really great fighting chops. Also, Dolph Lundgren
@TheBoxingCannabyte Well, haven't seen Bunraku...Just watched the trailer, nice art direction. John Cusack? Eeeeeeeeeeehhhhhh, I could probably count on one hand the characters I enjoyed him playing. Dunno if he will be the best choice. But I always wanted to see Steven Segal in a deeper role though. Existentialism is a good way to try and put him there.
@DavidakaChronic, V.S guys like Jet Li, Jacki Chan (who I think would be great as a ruthless bad guy with a vendetta against Seagal, who he is friends with in real life), perhaps Ron Perlman just because he's so great, Wesley Snipes if at all possible, Michael Jai White, maybe someone really big from the UFC circuit, do you got any suggestions on younger, ripped, prime (minus Yen, Jackie, Li, basically anyone below 45 who can still flow) Scott Adkins would be a great choice v.s Sammo
@TheBoxingCannabyte I would agree. Jackie should be a bad guy in a film. Atleast one. We've seen him play the good guy so many times it'll be a refreshing change. I got a few suggestions...Rain, Ray Park, Lee Byung-hun, Tony Jaa
@DavidakaChronic, They have such contending styles. Michael Jai White would have to be the final battle for Steven, as he is so acrobatic and Steven is so stationary. I think that with the right script and story it could be pulled off. I actually have an interesting story myself of self defense against three amateur fighters (I'm an amateur boxer and a blackbelt in tae kwon do and studying KRav maga and kali knight fighting) where I fought them off after they decided to jump "cuz I'm a fake" :P
@TheBoxingCannabyte Once the story/script is right (no cliche scenarios/one-liners) and the fighting sequences are dynamic, quick (not necessarily face-paced) and a certain level of realism is brought. The story has to be well balanced in terms of drama, light/comedic moments and fighting sequences (where they fit in with the story naturally). I've never done any form of martial arts (my parents were against it when I was young and had the opportunity) but I would love to study Krav Maga.
Sammo's not only big boned, he's also in his late 50's here... Most people could not move that fast in their 50's let alone having huge disposition...
@iamsoawesome1234 Thats how I wanna be when I get that age, fit and flexible and able to be active, you should focus on that, life will be much better when u have energy through most of your time alive, ill be lazy when im dead. :)
please tell us what movie this is from. I'd love to see the whole thing. I really dig this kind of stuff too. some of the stuff Yen did was incredible. I espeically appreciated the foot work and how he was able to flip big man Hung into yet another bar while coming out of a spin. did he do that with his obliques or what?
I love all the heroic Donnie Yen characters. I've always associated him with the true wu xia ideology and character. I've never actually delved in digging personal briefs of wu xia pian actors but I learned something today about those press or media reports projecting Donnie in a bad light. I've never seen any of those reports though. Anyway, I believe I've seen a great bulk of this man's work since the 90s and I loved "The Iron Monkey" w/ him against Yu Rong Guan - the fight scenes are 5 stars!
@tuberobotto after seeing a fight scene from IP Man where he murders three of the Black Belts with that insane Million Punches move, I want Donnie Yen to portray Goku... but damn it, I can't see him looking like Goku at all - it would obviously have to be an older Goku, but there you have an actor/martial artist who can legitimately do the "DBZ rapid exchanges" and yet it would be robbed due to all of the aerial fighting. Maybe during late Dragonball when Goku still used martial arts...
@jellybeanhide Why do they have to be non Asian? I've seen a bunch of people before (i.e like whites), who pretend to be Asian, love everything Asian and think they actually are Asian.
@DooKNo1 Ip Man in Ip Man 2 is still kind of a one dimensional character though, it's the same mostly stoici character he plays with hints of rage.
And I'd say stating Ip Man being popular specifically because of him and not because of Wing Chun or the actual Ip Man during an interview is being pretty brash (which he's done the same thing in other movies as well).
Donnie Yen's got so mad because after many years, he works so hard and still not as famous as Sammo Hung. " I look better, Fighter Better, and yet this fat guy just becomes more success than I am. "
I would rather watch a Chinese made action movie than an American made one. Mainly because the fights scenes in American made action flicks are too flashy, really short, and really fake! The Asian flicks (Chinese and Japanese) are full contact hits, are quite lengthy, and consist of real martial art techniques. Not some shit that you need some bungie rig to do.
@Str8EdgeDude If all you're seeing are short, fake action scenes in American films, then you're not watching the right movies, and you don't realize that bad movies are made in HK too.
My main issue with Donnie Yen films is that he's a very one-dimensional actor as far as dramatics go, and if you've ever seen any of his interviews, he comes across as very brash, and has for awhile, even before Ip Man was released, which is what really catapulted him into truly international superstardom).
@Impsterettes My issue isn't the acting, if I go to scene a naction movie I expect it to be full of action! And you're right not all American movies are bad I should made myself clear on that point. Movies like Matrix and Equilibrium are phenomenal films, but at the same time movies of that caliber are such a small percentage of the films being pumped out today that it's hard to talk about them as a whole. I've seen a plethera of good asian action movies, and they out number the American ones.
@Str8EdgeDude Yes, Asian cinema has better fight scenes. But while attempting to disown American filmmaking; you've implied that there are Asian films with decent plots going on in most of these martial arts films. I've seen two martial art films with storylines I actually cared about - Gorgeous, and Jet Li's the One - where the action and the plot were considered equally instead of a focus on both.
@oxnerd I said nothing about real life. I consistently talked about movies in all of my comments on this video, being an aspiring fight choreographer the point is to make it look cool and as fluid as possible. This entails full contact hits and fluid camera shots which makes a good fight scene in a movie. So please try and use your sarcastic quips on someone else.
@Str8EdgeDude i would normally agree with such a positive comment, but keep in mind that Asians invented the bungie rig fighting lol... Donnie Yen stands out as an Asian martial arts director exactly because he does not do the usual highly stylized Asian martial arts. Still, I think we all agree that American fight scenes suck pretty hard. WOO DONNIEE YENNN
@physiofighter I agree with that too, but if you were to look at the movies we make and the ones over to the east, the rate at which we make movies that involve CGI, green screens, and the like, greatly outnumber what's made in Asian. Not to say the CGI and green screens aren't good at what they do (and what they do is amazing, AVATAR and the Transformers trilogy were phenomenal films) but it just seems over used.
stuff like this pisses all over crap fight scenes like the matrix..... flashpoint fight scene with donnie yen kicks ass along with films like yip man!!!
@marcelo06 Actually I would have to disagree. The Matrix is one of the few American films (out of the plethora that we pump out every year) that I would say was a really good movie. Me being a sci-fi fanatic the story by itself blew me away. I will say as fight choreographer myself there were a few things that I would change, actually many things. But the movies and the story were so well put together. That made up for a few of the flaws overall.
to be honest like you i did actually like the matrix but i watched them recently and thats what made me realise the fighting wasnt as good as i originally thought.... obviously its easy to forget its sci fi and supposed to be over the top etc but i dont know maybe im just a sucker for a good old fashion kung fu scene haha.... maybe i was being a little unfair :)
@Str8EdgeDude though I would agree with martial arts movies having better fight scenes. American action movies do do a great job with fight scenes. The reason they are short is because that makes them more realistic, and America normally focuses on the story. Then the fact that most action movies in America involve guns also make our fights shorter than an Asian one that would normally have at least 5 people, limited to no weapons, and the clear use of traditional or modern martial arts.
@BlazingKicks I can agree with that, I guess its because I'm an aspiring fight choreographer that I'm more into the physical, hand to hand side of the action
@BlazingKicks It doesn't matter how old you are man, I'm eighteen but I'm way into the "fight scene", it all depends on the experience you have whether it be choreographing a fight scene or actually being in one!
@craigslistflow actually, much of ancient chinese medicine records were burnt after the qing dynasty. so you are wrong. and much evidence of many MANY "western" historical events were proven to not have been european pioneering :) but that of the chinese way thousands of years even further back.
examples? recently, ancient chinese astronomy texts were discovered, way before western ones. chinese sailors reaching americas, metalworking THOUSANDS of years ago in china, go look it up :)
@craigslistflow LOL i just did a Google search and you just copied word for word from Wikipedia while i have a actual book about the history of medicine called "The Greatest Benefit To Mankind" By Roy Porter and it explains how medicine started and how it advanced. And how the hell are syllables confusing at times, you just practically told me that you find it difficult to pronounce words such as water and physician together? FYI a syllable is composed of one word that sounds like two words!
@craigslistflow Which is true and secondly India and china DID advance medicine farther, and lets go back to the top comment its true a fat Chinese man is a kung foo master or a sumo wrestler while a fat white man is having a heart attack ruining the medical system! I've rarely seen a fat Asian guy having a heart attack and fucking up the health system, and oh yeah you should seriously do a a study go to a hospital and check out whats happening! No wonder why America's going down the dumps.
@craigslistflow you wanna give me proof backing up your nonsense? and answer the question already dumb ass was Neil Armstrong fat or not? Cause far as I'm concerned he wasn't, just cause fat people aren't successful , doesn't mean you have to make excuses for yourself! Maybe go for a jog or something fat asses like you are the only ones to blame, so stop pointing fingers and start doing something, rather then throwing some facts you got from a Google maybe go grab a book and find shit out.
@craigslistflow yeah listen to yourself you just proved my point LOL china and India advanced medicine why the fuck do you keep blabbering shit? take a second to read what you said, you just proved that china AND India advanced medical research and medicine itself! And that still doesnt make Neil Armstrong fat, you fat ass
@craigslistflow yeah i did what the fuck does that have to do with anything lol? I just stated Chinese and Indians advanced medicine, rather then saying random shit maybe you should try to understand more of what I'm saying! I just agreed with you that Egyptian invented medicine but you must agree with me that china and India advanced medicine cause its a well known fact, and lastly it doesn't change the fact that Neil Armstrong wasn't a fat white man like you.
@craigslistflow Egypt gave China knowledge of medicine through there books which soon expanded to India, Kahun Papyri was the one who expanded mathematical and medical topics, and yeah your right Egyptians were the first founders of medicine but china was the one who started to advance it then soon after India followed and by smith I'm assuming your talking about the Edwin Smith Papyrus which was a ancient text made by Imhotep who was a architect, high priest, and physical around 3000-2500 BCE
@craigslistflow I completely disagree with you, there is infact a race of people who are incapable of achieving any sort of success at all, that being the...you probably already guessed it, Native Americans. They are only put here to balance out the great achievements humanity makes by being a complete void of dignity or value.
I was expecting some more traditional wu-shu/kung fu. The usage of Mixed Martial Arts was excellent and made the fight so much more plausible (for a still-cinematic piece) while still remaining highly entertaining.
@Clyde200k that cos Ip man and SPL are set in different time periods and the different style of martial arts to suit that particular era. SPL is modern with latest MMA + a little UFC. Ip man focuses on wing chun which is based more on tradition and Chinese spirit

to be honest like you i did actually like the matrix but i watched them recently and thats what made me realise the fighting wasnt as good as i originally thought.... obviously its easy to forget its sci fi and supposed to be over the top etc but i dont know maybe im just a sucker for a good old fashion kung fu scene haha.... maybe i was being a little unfair :)
marcelo06 4 months ago
@marcelo06 Well like you said I think everyone loves a good fight scene, whatever floats ones boat pretty much!
Str8EdgeDude 4 months ago
@Str8EdgeDude though I would agree with martial arts movies having better fight scenes. American action movies do do a great job with fight scenes. The reason they are short is because that makes them more realistic, and America normally focuses on the story. Then the fact that most action movies in America involve guns also make our fights shorter than an Asian one that would normally have at least 5 people, limited to no weapons, and the clear use of traditional or modern martial arts.
BlazingKicks 4 months ago
@BlazingKicks I can agree with that, I guess its because I'm an aspiring fight choreographer that I'm more into the physical, hand to hand side of the action
Str8EdgeDude 4 months ago
@Str8EdgeDude I am only a teen and I know what you mean. I like the hand to hand aspect of fighting, and would maybe become a martial arts actor
BlazingKicks 4 months ago

FYI a syllable is composed of one word that sounds like two words!
chessecaketv 7 months ago
@craigslistflow Which is true and secondly India and china DID advance medicine farther, and lets go back to the top comment its true a fat Chinese man is a kung foo master or a sumo wrestler while a fat white man is having a heart attack ruining the medical system! I've rarely seen a fat Asian guy having a heart attack and fucking up the health system, and oh yeah you should seriously do a a study go to a hospital and check out whats happening! No wonder why America's going down the dumps.

This is a funny but really really good fight scene.

@craigslistflow you wanna give me proof backing up your nonsense? and answer the question already dumb ass was Neil Armstrong fat or not? Cause far as I'm concerned he wasn't, just cause fat people aren't successful , doesn't mean you have to make excuses for yourself! Maybe go for a jog or something fat asses like you are the only ones to blame, so stop pointing fingers and start doing something, rather then throwing some facts you got from a Google maybe go grab a book and find shit out.
chessecaketv 7 months ago
@craigslistflow yeah listen to yourself you just proved my point LOL china and India advanced medicine why the fuck do you keep blabbering shit? take a second to read what you said, you just proved that china AND India advanced medical research and medicine itself! And that still doesnt make Neil Armstrong fat, you fat ass
chessecaketv 7 months ago
Cool hey fight in ip man 2 too with eachother. But than is that Samno Hung much >>Tinner << or somthing
marcianoisselt 7 months ago
@craigslistflow yeah i did what the fuck does that have to do with anything lol? I just stated Chinese and Indians advanced medicine, rather then saying random shit maybe you should try to understand more of what I'm saying! I just agreed with you that Egyptian invented medicine but you must agree with me that china and India advanced medicine cause its a well known fact, and lastly it doesn't change the fact that Neil Armstrong wasn't a fat white man like you.

incorporating wrestling into kung fu = badass
iNicoTECH 7 months ago
@craigslistflow Egypt gave China knowledge of medicine through there books which soon expanded to India, Kahun Papyri was the one who expanded mathematical and medical topics, and yeah your right Egyptians were the first founders of medicine but china was the one who started to advance it then soon after India followed and by smith I'm assuming your talking about the Edwin Smith Papyrus which was a ancient text made by Imhotep who was a architect, high priest, and physical around 3000-2500 BCE
chessecaketv 7 months ago
@craigslistflow I completely disagree with you, there is infact a race of people who are incapable of achieving any sort of success at all, that being the...you probably already guessed it, Native Americans. They are only put here to balance out the great achievements humanity makes by being a complete void of dignity or value.
brownkv081 7 months ago
I was expecting some more traditional wu-shu/kung fu. The usage of Mixed Martial Arts was excellent and made the fight so much more plausible (for a still-cinematic piece) while still remaining highly entertaining.
Thank you kindly for this upload!

@craigslistflow lol he wasn't fat though you moron, whose the first ones to make medicine? Indians/Chinese.
Exactly ;-)

@Clyde200k that cos Ip man and SPL are set in different time periods and the different style of martial arts to suit that particular era. SPL is modern with latest MMA + a little UFC. Ip man focuses on wing chun which is based more on tradition and Chinese spirit
