Also I am not Muslim but Roman Catholic, but I believe that since Islam has been relevant to our society, that one should study its teachings to better understand our current situation in the Middle East as well as have a better understanding on how people can differ on the same subject. What this reveals is that Jesus was not condemning repetition as such, but *vain* repetition, that is, saying words over and over so that you can be seen and heard by men and receive their praise. Jesus is speaking against those people who pray, not out of humility and adoration of God, but so that they can be known for their so-called piety. Catholics don’t pray the rosary with that intention, thus this does not apply.

@pharooh360 Only one of the passages you quoted actually mentions the word prayer. So you're going to have to try a little harder if you want to make a point about how we are supposed to pray. Jesus instructed us how to pray in Matthew 6 and He never once instructed us to bow down.

It's a myth that 2000 years ago people in Roman Empire thought Earth was flat. Also they knew Sun was just a star close to us. Foundation of science was already there. Only main science fields was different - in Roman era main science was politics, in Middle ages theology and now physics.

The Rosary prayer praises and glorifies Mary more than God. Christ did not command that we pray the rosary so we must reject it. Rosary beads are used in Islam and Hinduism and both are anti-Christian religions.

I'm a Christian, not a Catholic, and I don't believe in praying to Mary or anyone beyond the trinity, but I think the rosary is a beautiful prayer that can be very beneficial, not only as a rememberence of what Christ has done but a daily reminder to flee from sin throughout the day. There's a lot of things Catholicism's gotten wrong, but some things they have more right that protestants
@Andy2theT Why do you need the rosary to remind you of what Christ has done for you? Are the words of Christ, the prophets and the apostles not sufficient for you? The rosary magnifies a human and calls Mary to pray for you as if she can hear and respond to your prayers. No one stands between God and His people. As Christ taught in The Lord's Prayer, we direct all our prayers straight to the Father in Heaven. Anything you put between you and God is an attempt to rob God of His glory.
@mpenaco Anything can be used for evil, or for good. Much of what seperates that lies in the intention of the user. If I pray the rosary to build my own salvation, I'm going against the Bible (Romans 9:16 for example), but if I pray the rosary to remind me of what God has done and to worship Him, I am doing good. I'm not disagreeing that Mary isn't the one to pray to, I'm saying the tradition isn't inherently wrong. It's all between each person and God.
@Andy2theT Unfortunately if you use the standard given by God to his people, the rosary is inherently wrong because it promotes the use of a sinful human as an intercessor between God and his people. As a sinner, Mary is not worhty to become our intercessor to the Father. God's revealed Word clearly proclaims that there is only one mediator between God and man, the man Christ Jesus. Anyone else is not worthy enough for God.

@crimini001 God's people pray for each other that's for sure, whether they are on earth or in heaven. But God specifically taught us (1) to pray to the Father alone (ref. The Lord's Prayer, the prayer of Jesus in Jn. 17 and David's prayers in the Psalms) and (2) not to call on the spirit of those who have died in our prayers because they will defile our souls. You can ask your brother, neighbor or church members to pray for you but calling the spirits of the dead is big NO NO to God.

Please take the time to learn Catholic beliefs from Catholic sources. You'll find that Mary is subject to God, just like every created being. She can only open the window of Heaven *if God lets her.* She cannot and will not act contrary to God. Doing so would be a sin. She's in Heaven, and thus sinless.

Many of the manuscripts have mistakes, but because we have so many of them, we can correct the mistakes. None of the mistakes are made in areas where essential Christian teachings are listed. They are minor mistakes. Manuscripts of the Quran also have mistakes in them. These mistakes are corrected the same way Bible manuscripts are: by comparing the whole body of manuscripts together.

@Quran871 You misunderstand. There are not many different Bibles. There are many different translations and/or revisions of the Bible. There are also different translations of the Quran. There are not six versions of the King James Bible, there are different editions of it, updating spelling, grammar, and punctuation. Changes like these do not make a completely different Bible. How did Europeans and the Spanish (aren't Spaniards Europeans?) change the whole Bible?

Christians don't go to the church they think is teaching the right Bible out of many Bibles. @Quran871 I must admit myself wrong about something, something about which you were right: I'd forgotten that there are Christians who believe the King James Version is the only acceptable English translation of the Bible, and they think that translations made into other languages must be made from the Textus Receptus, the manuscript (manuscripts?) from which the King James was translated. Their arguments for this view are silly and anti-reason, nevertheless, they do believe this.

When i was eleven years old i was in a car accident and was thrown from my mom's car. i had my seatbelt off and went through the side windshield. And all i saw was this amazing light.

btw, Jesus prayed repetitious prayers (Garden of Gethsamane), and he taught the Lord's Prayer (presumably to be prayed more than once per our lifetime), so I think you missed the point of Jesus's "warning." It's whats in your heart that matters, and as God only he can judge or look down on anyone for how they pray.
@sarevor 20 minutes is just about how long it takes to pray the rosary, I've heard of some people who can do it in 8 minutes. So your argument refutes itself since you need to allot about a minute of your time to pray the Lord's prayer.

@nymphrenic What I am trying to get at is that a prayer is based on the heart of the person. A true prayer to God can take two seconds just as long as it is sincere. If a prayer so happens to take twenty minutes then it takes twenty minutes. Speeding through a mantra or keeping it at an even pace only tempts people into giving vain repetition. Jesus prayed what he prayed because it came from his heart not because he thought he'd gain favor for repeating words.
@nymphrenic As for the Lords prayer, there is no allotted time. The words don't need to be repeated, they are simply a blueprint on what to pray for. A single thought or feeling in the person's heart as they beat their chest can encompass an entire Lord's prayer

The counting of prayers is a pagan practice and is expressly condemned by Christ(Matthew 6:5-13). The rosary should NEVER be performed by anyone, it is sinful. Jesus condemned chants and recited prayers.

What this reveals is that Jesus was not condemning repetition as such, but *vain* repetition, that is, saying words over and over so that you can be seen and heard by men and receive their praise. Jesus is speaking against those people who pray, not out of humility and adoration of God, but so that they can be known for their so-called piety. Catholics don’t pray the rosary with that intention, thus this does not apply.

@pharooh360 Only one of the passages you quoted actually mentions the word prayer. So you're going to have to try a little harder if you want to make a point about how we are supposed to pray. Jesus instructed us how to pray in Matthew 6 and He never once instructed us to bow down.

The Rosary prayer praises and glorifies Mary more than God. Christ did not command that we pray the rosary so we must reject it. Rosary beads are used in Islam and Hinduism and both are anti-Christian religions.

I'm a Christian, not a Catholic, and I don't believe in praying to Mary or anyone beyond the trinity, but I think the rosary is a beautiful prayer that can be very beneficial, not only as a rememberence of what Christ has done but a daily reminder to flee from sin throughout the day. There's a lot of things Catholicism's gotten wrong, but some things they have more right that protestants

The rosary magnifies a human and calls Mary to pray for you as if she can hear and respond to your prayers. No one stands between God and His people. As Christ taught in The Lord's Prayer, we direct all our prayers straight to the Father in Heaven. Anything you put between you and God is an attempt to rob God of His glory.

@mpenaco Anything can be used for evil, or for good. Much of what seperates that lies in the intention of the user. If I pray the rosary to build my own salvation, I'm going against the Bible (Romans 9:16 for example), but if I pray the rosary to remind me of what God has done and to worship Him, I am doing good. I'm not disagreeing that Mary isn't the one to pray to, I'm saying the tradition isn't inherently wrong. It's all between each person and God.

As a sinner, Mary is not worhty to become our intercessor to the Father. God's revealed Word clearly proclaims that there is only one mediator between God and man, the man Christ Jesus. Anyone else is not worthy enough for God.

@crimini001 God's people pray for each other that's for sure, whether they are on earth or in heaven. But God specifically taught us (1) to pray to the Father alone (ref. The Lord's Prayer, the prayer of Jesus in Jn. 17 and David's prayers in the Psalms) and (2) not to call on the spirit of those who have died in our prayers because they will defile our souls. You can ask your brother, neighbor or church members to pray for you but calling the spirits of the dead is big NO NO to God.

Please take the time to learn Catholic beliefs from Catholic sources. You'll find that Mary is subject to God, just like every created being. She can only open the window of Heaven *if God lets her.* She cannot and will not act contrary to God. Doing so would be a sin. She's in Heaven, and thus sinless.

There was no else but God when the world was created so who was He respecting? The truth is, Islam is purely the work of a man trying to deceive the muslim people into believing that what he says is from Allah. But Muhammad had nothing to show for his teachings - no miracles, nothing extraordinary.

In Islam, the muslims hate the people of Israel and want nothing less than the annihilation of all Israelites. What kind of religion is that? Is that a religion of a merciful Allah? I don't think so.

@Quran871 What do you mean by there are a lot of Bibles? We have many thousands of manuscripts, yes. Many of the manuscripts have mistakes, but because we have so many of them, we can correct the mistakes. None of the mistakes are made in areas where essential Christian teachings are listed. They are minor mistakes. Manuscripts of the Quran also have mistakes in them. These mistakes are corrected the same way Bible manuscripts are: by comparing the whole body of manuscripts together.

@crimini001 thanks for replying ok there is lots of versions in the bible thats why you go to the church you believe is preaching the right bible. do you go to different churches NO you dont because each church believes in a different version for example the king james version has been changed 6 times so there are six versions of the king james ok god revealed one bible so someone had to mess with the bible to make different versions you see europeans and the spanish changed the whole bible. @Quran871 You misunderstand. There are not many different Bibles. There are many different translations and/or revisions of the Bible. There are also different translations of the Quran. There are not six versions of the King James Bible, there are different editions of it, updating spelling, grammar, and punctuation. Changes like these do not make a completely different Bible. How did Europeans and the Spanish (aren't Spaniards Europeans?) change the whole Bible?

@Quran871 I do not go to the church that I believe is preaching the right Bible, I go to the Church that gave the Bible to the world. Here you misunderstand again. Christians don't go to the church they think is teaching the right Bible out of many Bibles. There is only one Bible, and they go to the church they think is teaching the one Bible in the correct way. Again, different translations and revisions of the Bible do not make different Bibles!

@crimini001 ok you misunderstood brother for example and this is a real example there is a bible with 3 verses that says jesus descended into the heaven and in 1971 the took it out the bible is still in the same laungage but doesnt have the same verses and i a muslim go to a different mosqe every week and sometimes sleep in mosqes when traveling and they pray, and teach same book same way the prophet did. please this videos muhammad in the bible 1 out of 11, and surah kahf by shuraim part 1 :)

(I guess 1971 would be the second edition, so I'd just need the first). I'm willing to listen to your reasons for disbelieving the Bible, but only if you provide the specific evidence that causes you to disbelieve the Bible. Give me facts I can verify, not general accusations against the Bible.

@Quran871 I must admit myself wrong about something, something about which you were right: I'd forgotten that there are Christians who believe the King James Version is the only acceptable English translation of the Bible, and they think that translations made into other languages must be made from the Textus Receptus, the manuscript (manuscripts?) from which the King James was translated. Their arguments for this view are silly and anti-reason, nevertheless, they do believe this.

The real comparison should be made between the Person of Jesus and the Quran. It is Jesus Who is the Word of God in the fullest sense, not the Bible. Having said that, I'm willing for you to try to disprove the Bible to me.

When i was eleven years old i was in a car accident and was thrown from my mom's car. i had my seatbelt off and went through the side windshield. I remember a horrible pain in my side. the worst pain i have ever felt in my life. And then all of the sudden. it was gone. Completely gone. I looked around to see if i could see the van or my mom. And all i saw was this amazing light.

@Quran871 and in that light i saw somebody. walking towards me. and it was the most amazing person, the most glorious being i had ever laid my eyes upon. and the feeling the light gave me is unimaginably comforting. And that is when i knew i was in the presence of god. And when he came near me i looked up and asked the one standing gloriously in front of me if he was jesus. and he nodded his head and said my life is not yet complete. and he took my hand. smiled and i was back on the ground.

@Quran871 and when i looked around i felt the pain in my side again. but i noticed the ground wasn't grassy or dark like before... i heard all these voices and noticed i was in a hospital bed with my mother crying in front of me and doctors operating franticly.. and as i woke up they all stopped and looked at me. and my mom came and hugged me as i tried to sit up. but they quickly shoved her away, because the pain was more intense than ever. for i had broken my leg and injured my head.

@Quran871 The thing that i know is that i met Jesus, our savior, that day. OUR SAVIOR. And the proof is in the pudding. because for 28 and a half seconds in the hospital my heart stopped and i was pronounced dead. It's wierd, they never told me why my heart stopped. Maybe it was Jesus wanting me to experience his glory so i didn't have any question about him when people like YOU are around trying to blind me. I experienced the true god that day. The truth is God the Father Son And Holy Spirit.

@witchcraftlover the sin against the holy spirit is not "saying something bad about the holy spirit" it's attributing the visible work of God to the evil one (in context, read the Gospels). in practice it is a stubborn refusal to accept the ability of God to forgive sins (meaning you would not be forgiven, creating a paradox). the important thing is to repent, not get it twisted

Tough love is just the justification of something wrong (like hell). Reincarnations where it's at, once you're done with earth, you'll choose your next path. If you were a bad person and were considered 'going to hell' then you would incarnate in a place/on a planet where you can learn what you neglected to learn on earth.

@mpenaco ...and B) the Davidic kingdom is a type of Christ's kingdom (this is why Elizabeth greets Mary with the words: "...why is it granted to me that the mother of my Lord should come to me?") You'll note that Elizabeth is honored that Mary is coming to see her, and that John the Baptist leaps at the sound of Mary's voice. "Lord" is paired often with "king" in the Old Testament (e.g. I Sam. 24:8 I Sam. 26:19, II Sam. 4:8, 2 Sam. 14:12, I Kings 1:2, II Kings 18:23, I Chron. 21:23, Dan. 4:24).

@sarevor No he didn't, he warned against vain prayers. It doesn't matter if your prayer is long, short, or repetitious, if it's vain it's useless.
btw, Jesus prayed repetitious prayers (Garden of Gethsamane), and he taught the Lord's Prayer (presumably to be prayed more than once per our lifetime), so I think you missed the point of Jesus's "warning." It's whats in your heart that matters, and as God only he can judge or look down on anyone for how they pray.

@sarevor 20 minutes is just about how long it takes to pray the rosary, I've heard of some people who can do it in 8 minutes. So your argument refutes itself since you need to allot about a minute of your time to pray the Lord's prayer.
Anyway, do you even know anymore what you're arguing against? First it was the length, and now it's "allotted time". What exactly is your problem?

@nymphrenic What I am trying to get at is that a prayer is based on the heart of the person. A true prayer to God can take two seconds just as long as it is sincere. If a prayer so happens to take twenty minutes then it takes twenty minutes. Speeding through a mantra or keeping it at an even pace only tempts people into giving vain repetition. Jesus prayed what he prayed because it came from his heart not because he thought he'd gain favor for repeating words.

@nymphrenic As for the Lords prayer, there is no allotted time. The words don't need to be repeated, they are simply a blueprint on what to pray for. A single thought or feeling in the person's heart as they beat their chest can encompass an entire Lord's prayer
