  • It is a lockout exercise... why are you morons thinking he's doing a bench press and criticizing him for his form... I've never done lockouts.. but I think I just might..

  • @nomitata If you have a question or comment or a point to make, that's fine, but name calling?  There's no need for that.

    Partial training is useful when done pretty much anywhere along the range of motion. I've done partials from 6 to 8 inches off chest, I've done them just in the bottom range. This is called a lockout partial because you're just doing the top few inches in order to maximize weight and loading on the connective tissue and muscle fibers.

  • @0badboy0 Lockout bench press - it's a method for increasing connnective tissue strength and neuromuscular drive by massively overloading the very top strongest range of motion of the bench press. By increasing connective tissue strength, you'll be able to increase your full range strength. It's actually a very effective training technique.

  • I've doubled my bench press by using compound exercise overload with a weight beyond my 1RM.Now i Bench almost 440 lbs and i'm only 17.All this thanks to nick.Standard training routines or intensity techniques are nothing compared with what nick nows,so listen to this guy.

  • this is why you should not waste your time doin lock outs of any sort with wait you can not possible do in a meet. Louie Simmons saids that you should not do more that 10 % of your max when doing rack pulls for the deadlift. i think the same should apply for the bench. when my shirted max was 425 I was doing triples with 455lbs lock out on the bench. also you should consider doing your lock outs off suspended chains it puts less stresss on your shoulders and you get a better set up.

  • When it comes to maximum strength, I won't aruge with Louie Simmons, that's for sure. But for me, I've found lockouts to be invaluable for increasing connective tissue strength and preparing the body for using heavier weight - I've used them to break through many plateaus. I'm not going to be entering any meets anytime soon, anyway. I do really like the idea of doing lockouts off suspended chains - thanks! I can definitely see that being easier on the shoulders.

  • At that point, I was maxing at about 325 lbs.  Not huge #'s but I have no genetic talent for bench press. You can do lockouts with about 1 1/2 to 2x your normal max bench.

  • how much you normally bench if this is 585?
