Oh yeah. This is what grunge is about. Who cares if you don't play the song note for note or play it too fast or too slow or the vocals don't sound the same everytime. Just get up and play, have a good time and go fucking ape shit. A bit disappointed with the crowd.
I wouldn't ignore the contribution ben brought to the band, I think he completely changed their direction. Maybe if Hiro stayed in the band SG would have stayed a little heavier and less experimental.
'completely changed their direction' is a tad excessive. Chris Cornell has always written the majority of songs in the band, he's more responsible than anyone else. it's funny you used the word 'experimental'. I always thought Ultramega OK was their most experimental album. they got more 'straight down the line' as they went on. just my opinion of course.
As Soundgarden got older they experimented more with time signatures and alternate tunings. Pre Badmotorfinger is mostly Standard tuning and Drop D. Where as most tracks on Superunknown were using alternate tunings. Also there were some very interesting songs (like half, and ty cobb, an unkind) that would never have existed without ben's contribution. Plus songs generally got longer as there career went on. I think there was more humour on their albums in the Hiro era.
This song is definitely in the top 3 of the Screaming Life/Fopp album. I prefer obviosly the album version of the song because of the sound quality, but still a killer presentation. Epic guitar work, reminds me of Mudhoney actually.

I wonder of Chris or any of the other former members have sat down and watched any of these old vids.
This video alone would have to spark a reunion, wouldn't you think???
Come on guys!!!!
